Chapter 248 You Used to Call Me Andrew!
Andrew scooped up Lola and planted a kiss on her. "Lola's all I need!"
Lola kissed him back, her tiny hands cupping his face. "Gavin's cute too, just like me. He's got golden hair and fair skin."
Andrew's brow furrowed. "Who's Gavin?"
Charlotte set the coffee on the table and took Lola into her arms. "He's a kid from the Hawkins family."
Not exactly a lie.
Andrew shrugged it off and forced a smile.
He was here to get the scoop on Chloe, but Charlotte was tight-lipped, not spilling a word. Andrew thought she was pretty slick.
Charlotte chatted with him and handed Lola a phone.
Lola glanced at Andrew, then at Charlotte who gave a subtle nod. She got the hint.
Her little fingers started tapping away on the phone: [Auntie, I miss you! Mommy's not feeling well. Can you come take me to school?]
Done, Lola tossed the phone onto the couch.
Andrew frowned. "Kids shouldn't be messing with phones so young!"
Charlotte checked the phone and smiled. "She does her kindergarten homework on it. Frederick wants her to be independent."
Andrew had nothing more to say.
He hung around a bit longer, then decided to bounce, feeling kinda down.
Charlotte offered him a cup of coffee. Hearing a car pull up in the yard, she smiled. "Alright, you're free to go. I'll take Lola to Copenhegan to visit Grandma soon."
Andrew gave her a gentle pat on the head and headed out.
Charlotte walked him to the door.
In the parking lot, a white Bentley rolled to a stop. Chloe stepped out from the back seat and smiled. "Charlotte, Lola said you weren't feeling well."
She froze, her eyes locking onto Andrew.
Andrew did the same. He hadn't expected to see her here, his eyes deep and a bit unsettled.
'She was so different now!' Andrew stared at her. 'She had changed a lot. She used to be all sunshine, but now she was thinner, and her clothes had a more mature vibe. She'd gone from a girl to a woman.'
At that moment, Andrew realized he still longed for her. He stared at her face and whispered, "Long time no see, Chloe."
Chloe was more emotional than him. Her voice trembled, and she used all her strength to say, "Mr. Devereux, it's been a while."
They exchanged a few words.
Charlotte felt awkward being in the middle. She picked up Lola and had the driver and a trusty nanny take her to kindergarten. Lola was super obedient and kissed her. "Bye, Mommy!"
Charlotte kissed her back. "I'll pick you up tonight!"
Lola hopped down, grabbed the nanny's hand, and trotted off to school.
Charlotte turned back and cleared her throat. "I'll whip up some coffee!"
Chloe, feeling a bit clingy, held onto her. "Charlotte!"
Charlotte smiled. "You two need to talk."
Andrew looked at Chloe and said softly, "Let's go inside."
Chloe lowered her head and walked in, but as soon as she did, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the bathroom.
The bathroom door clicked shut, trapping them in a tight space.
Her back hit the wall.
Andrew's arm was propped above her head, his body pinning her in. He had this faint tobacco scent that made her head spin.
For a long time, neither of them said a word.
Finally, Chloe's voice shook. "Let go of me!"
Andrew stared at her, his voice low. "I waited for you all night!"
She looked up at him.
Her eyes were brimming with tears, ready to spill with a single blink.
So she didn't dare blink.
She didn't want to cry in front of him. After all the crap she'd been through since they split, what would crying help now?
Andrew wasn't doing great either.
He glanced at the door, then back at her face, and softly asked, "Why haven't you come home in two years?"
Chloe gave a faint smile. "What does it matter to you? If I haven't come home, I must be having a blast somewhere else. What right do you have to care?"
Andrew's gaze was intense.
He reached out and touched her face. Just that touch made her whole body tremble, even her teeth chattered.
"Are you so against me touching you? Got yourself a boyfriend?" he asked.
Chloe's face went pale. She stared into his eyes and forced out a word through clenched teeth. "Yes!"
Andrew's eyes darkened.
The grip he had on her loosened.
Chloe struggled to hold herself up and asked, "Can you let go of me now, Mr. Devereux? A guy like you shouldn't be short on company!"
"Mr. Devereux? Chloe, you used to call me Andrew!"
"That was when I was young and dumb!"
Chloe's hand pressed against his chest, pushing him away bit by bit. "Charlotte's coming. Let go and give us both a little dignity!"
Andrew let her go.
She gripped the door handle, gritting her teeth as she opened the door. Behind her, his hoarse voice came. "Chloe, do you really want to part ways with me? We can go back to how things were. You can call me Andrew, and I'll take care of you!"
He always felt he owed her.
He thought that if she found a good guy, he'd bless her.
Whatever she wanted, he'd give!
Chloe tilted her head slightly, holding back for a long time before saying softly, "No need! I don't need it!"
She could never forget what went down back then.
She had secretly flown to Copenhegan to surprise him, only to get kidnapped.
She was tied to a chair in a dark room for 36 hours, no water, no bathroom breaks. The kidnappers wanted some chip he had.
She was terrified. And she thought he'd move heaven and earth to save her!
Instead, on the phone, Andrew's voice was cool and collected. "Sorry, I don't know her."
Later, she was rescued.
She thought he had come for her, that she was still his world, but when she stepped out of that dingy house, she saw him standing with another woman.
Turns out she wasn't the only one kidnapped.
He had said he didn't know her, left her hanging, but used the chip to save another woman.
She saw him holding that woman, looking at her with tenderness.
Later, she found out that woman was one of his many fleeting romantic interests.
In Copenhegan, women who admired Andrew were everywhere, each more charming and gentle than Chloe.
She stood before him, a mess.
That word "Andrew" could never come out of her mouth again.
He had someone settle her in, and it wasn't until late at night that he came to her room. The first thing he said when he saw her was, "Chloe, let's end this."
She looked up and still asked why!
Andrew sat on the sofa, quietly looking at her for a long time before saying, "We are not right for each other."
Her eyes filled with tears.
She didn't beg him to stay!
Choking up, she said very softly, "Alright! Goodbye, Andrew."
That was the last time she called him Andrew, and the last time she saw him.
Andrew couldn't bear it in the end.
He wanted to give this pure girl, who liked him wholeheartedly, one last hug, but she dodged it, her voice very restrained. "I'll leave in the morning."
Andrew was stunned, staring at her for a long time before leaving.
The moment the door closed, she still cried.
On the bathroom counter was a used pregnancy test stick, showing two faint pink lines.
Before he came, she had thought about telling him she was pregnant.
But he had told her they were not right for each other.
Recalling the past, her heart still ached.
When she walked out, Charlotte was sitting on the sofa in the living room, with two cups of coffee in front of her.
Seeing the tears in Chloe's eyes, she smiled gently. "Finished talking? Come have some coffee."
Chloe choked out, "Charlotte!"
She sat beside Charlotte, feeling utterly wretched.
The man she had once loved so passionately, from start to finish, had only seen her as a fleeting pleasure! The saddest part was that she still liked him, but because she liked him, she couldn't forgive herself or him!
Charlotte let her lean on her shoulder.
Andrew came out, and the vibe was super awkward.
There were some things he couldn't explain to Chloe, and he couldn't be straight with Charlotte. No matter what, he had wronged her.
Andrew whispered, "Take good care of her! I'm heading back to Copenhegan."
He was about to leave.
Charlotte asked softly, "Andrew, I asked if you had thought about settling down. Now I want to ask again!"
Andrew paused.
Actually, he had.
In the half-year he was with Chloe, he had thought about settling down because that time was so wonderful for him, so wonderful it was like an addictive poison!
But so what?
Now, he couldn't say it.
Andrew's voice was cool. "No, I haven't."
Charlotte nodded. "I understand. By the way, Grandma is here, and she's heading to the Hawkins Mansion now."
Andrew turned around.
Chloe's face also lost color.
Charlotte sipped her coffee and then smiled. "I didn't invite her. She insisted on coming to apologize! You know, elderly people are usually quite conservative."
Andrew's gaze fell on Chloe's face, and she looked back at him.
Neither of them had expected that the absurdity of that half-year would come to this.
Finally, Andrew said softly, "Let's go!"
Chloe refused to ride in the same car as him, insisting on taking the car driven by the driver, while Charlotte said she needed to change clothes and would go later. After the two cars left, she called Frederick and asked him to come along!
Half an hour later, Andrew's car arrived first, and he ran into Adeline at the entrance of the Hawkins Mansion.
Adeline had quite the entourage, with a total of 18 black cars and 12 servants to carry gifts. It looked more like a proposal than an apology.
Andrew, who was very influential outside, was particularly filial.
When Adeline glared at him, he had no choice.
The Hawkins Mansion was huge, with enough space to park 20 cars, and soon the place was filled with cars.
Butler Felix Parker reported while Patrick was playing with Gavin on the lawn.
Gavin was rolling a ball, playing repeatedly without getting bored.
After Felix finished speaking, Patrick lit a cigarette and slowly exhaled a smoke ring. "Let them come!"
Might as well meet the kid!
Felix immediately went to invite Adeline and Andrew, smiling as he said, "Patrick is playing with Gavin. There's a pavilion over there; please feel free to sit there!"
Adeline immediately led Andrew over.
Patrick, with a cigarette in his mouth, watched from a distance.
