Chapter 825 Nancy, Let's Get Married
Nancy was truly in an awkward situation.
But she couldn't share her distress with anyone; she had to swallow all the bitterness herself.
Even before the engagement, rumors had reached her and her family's ears.
Her family urged her to reconsider.
But she liked him, so she insisted on getting engaged to him.
She thought that even if those rumors were true, they were in the past... She believed Grant should have moved on.
But today, seeing Natalie and the way Grant looked at her, she realized that the man who might become her husband could never forget her.
Nancy felt utterly defeated. She grabbed a nightgown from the side, put it on, tied the belt, and softly said, "You should go back! I'm fine!"
Grant wasn't that much of a jerk.
He had just taken advantage of her; he couldn't just toss Nancy aside, especially since she was his future wife.
He knelt in front of her, looked up at her for a moment, and gently asked, "Come back with me, Nancy. We're engaged; it's normal for us to live together. I'll call your parents."
Nancy stared at him.
Grant placed his hand on the back of her head, gently pulling her into his arms.
His lips brushed against her ear as he whispered, "I'm sorry for hurting you, Nancy. But I promise there won't be anyone else."
His promise didn't make Nancy happy.
He said there wouldn't be anyone else, but his fidelity wasn't for her.
It was for Natalie.
She asked him, "We'll have children, right?"
"Of course!"
Grant's response was firm. He caressed her cold cheek and promised, "We'll have our own children."
Nancy cried again.
If she didn't like him so much, she wouldn't have to endure this.
She was like a moth to a flame, uncertain of the future.
Grant helped her put on a coat, intending to take her away, but Nancy refused, "I'm still in my nightgown; it doesn't look good!"
Grant looked at her and suddenly scooped her up in his arms.
Nancy quickly wrapped her arms around his neck.
After that, neither of them spoke. Grant carried her downstairs effortlessly...
The housemaids saw them and smiled, "Mr. McCall is so strong!"
Nancy felt a bit embarrassed and softly asked him to put her down, but Grant gently touched her smooth, delicate calf...
Nancy was quite tall, and her calves were particularly beautiful.
His touch made her body tremble slightly.
Grant's gaze darkened.
He drove her back to his villa. He didn't intend to make love again, considering it was her first time and she had cried.
But perhaps the Fireworks Festival holiday was too boring, and being together as an engaged couple easily sparked desire.
They were engaged, so there were no more reservations.
That afternoon, on that big bed, Grant made love to Nancy twice more.
By evening, as dusk fell, Nancy woke up in bed. She reached out to touch the pillow beside her, but it was empty... Grant wasn't there.
She sat up and saw him standing by the floor-to-ceiling window.
He was already dressed.
Black pants, a gray cashmere turtleneck sweater, his back looked tall and strong... But just looking at his distant gaze, she felt a sense of loneliness.
Nancy suddenly understood that he was thinking of someone.
No matter how warm their bodies were, it couldn't warm his heart.
Grant heard the movement behind him and turned around, quietly watching her, "You're awake?"
Nancy got out of bed barefoot.
She was wearing his black shirt.
She walked over to him, leaned on his shoulder, and they quietly embraced for a while... Grant softly said, "Nancy, let's get married."
Nancy agreed, "Let's stick with May 20th; it's a good date."
Grant lowered his head and kissed her.
He didn't say anything more.
He thought, 'This is fine, marrying a good woman, having children, and living out my life...'
He wasn't young anymore, and those passions had long faded.
Some things, once missed, are missed forever.
No matter how much you want them, it's futile.
When Natalie woke up, it was already past seven in the evening.
Outside, she heard a child's voice... It was Haven.
Did Clayton bring Haven over?
She propped herself up and then heard the sound of footsteps.
Haven rushed into her arms, kissing her face like a little puppy, calling out, "Mommy, Mommy."
Natalie kissed her back, "Who brought you here?"
Haven sat obediently on the edge of the bed, her little feet swinging gently, "Mr. Percy brought me."
As she spoke, her little nose wrinkled.
It was covered in tiny beads of sweat, showing how much fun she had just had.
At the door, Clayton stood with a faint smile on his face, "While you were sleeping, I went to pick her up. She had a great time."
He looked at Natalie and softly said, "This is the best Fireworks Festival gift I could ask for."
Natalie met his gaze.
Suddenly, her pupils contracted slightly.
