Chapter 245 I Just Want Andrew to Make a Statement
Charlotte was done listening.
"Isn't he pissed? Where's all these flirtatious words coming from?"
She got up from his lap and adjusted her nightgown, but Frederick yanked her back and kissed her hard. After what felt like forever, he whispered, "Crash in the master bedroom tonight!"
Charlotte didn't say no.
Mostly 'cause she figured he wasn't up for anything tonight.
Lying on the big bed in the master bedroom, she thought about how her and Frederick's issues were more about their personal drama.
But it was all tangled up with Chloe and Andrew.
Charlotte's mind was racing, and in that half-asleep, half-awake state, she heard a car engine revving downstairs.
She jolted up and ran downstairs.
Frederick's car was already gone.
She quickly asked Dana, "Where'd Frederick go?"
Dana just shook her head, clueless.
Right then, Chloe came running down, looking pale, probably guessing what went down.
Charlotte said softly, "Don't stress. I'll hit up Cherie!"
It was super late, and bugging Cherie at this hour was rude, so Charlotte kept it polite.
Cherie spilled the beans easily, "Mr. Hawkins took a private jet to Copenhegan."
Charlotte gave a faint smile and thanked her. She hung up and told Chloe, "Frederick's off to Copenhegan."
Chloe grabbed Charlotte's hand. "Charlotte, I'm freaked out."
Charlotte felt pretty helpless too; Frederick's phone was off, and there was no stopping him from heading to Copenhegan.
She hugged Chloe and gently said, "Maybe they just need to duke it out."
In Copenhegan, A sleek black sedan rolled up in front of the Devereux mansion.
The car came to a slow stop.
A tall figure stepped out, and the servant greeted him respectfully, "Good morning, Mr. Hawkins!"
Frederick frowned. "Where's Mr. Devereux?"
The servant, seeing his pissed-off look, was at a loss for words.
Andrew came out just then and asked coolly, "Why are you here so early?"
Frederick gritted his teeth. He sneered, "Of course, I'm here to see you!"
Andrew checked his watch. "Too bad, I got a meeting soon, and the driver's already waiting!"
Frederick blocked him, smiling insincerely. "Won't take long. We talk, then you go!"
Andrew frowned.
Frederick lit a cigarette, took a few slow drags, then stubbed it out and said calmly, "I wanna talk about Chloe!"
Andrew signaled his secretary to scram and dismissed the servants too.
Once everyone was gone, Andrew lit a cigarette as well.
He stood in the breeze, the smoke swirling around, making his handsome face flicker in and out of view.
After a long pause, he asked hoarsely, "How's she doing?"
Frederick sneered. "How's she doing? A 31-year-old woman, not going home, not getting hitched, renting a crappy 400-square-foot place. Mr. Devereux, how do you think she's doing?"
Andrew's fingers holding the cigarette trembled slightly.
He was always cool, but hearing about Chloe after more than two years shook him.
He guessed Frederick knew something!
Andrew's voice got even more hoarse. "Why doesn't she come home?"
Frederick glared at him, eyes blazing like he wanted to rip him apart.
Yeah, he was here to settle the score with Andrew!
But he wasn't gonna mention Gavin. Chloe was a Hawkins, Frederick's sister, and there was no way he'd use a kid to trap a man.
He stared at Andrew and slowly asked, "How long were you with her?"
Andrew's eyebrows twitched.
The secret kept for three years was finally out.
He took a deep drag on his cigarette and, after a long pause, said, "More than half a year. It started when Charlotte was in the hospital, and then we were on and off for another six months."
Frederick thought back.
During those six months, Charlotte was abroad, and Andrew seemed to be on frequent business trips to Syeattel.
So that's how it was.
Frederick sneered. "Mr. Devereux, before doing all that, did you ever think about your age, Chloe's age, and the fact that our families are in-laws? Yeah, you might not care 'cause sleeping with her isn't illegal, but be real, did you ever sleep with her 'cause you wanted to marry her? Wasn't it always just to get what you wanted?"
Andrew's gaze darkened.
He couldn't deny it!
Frederick stubbed out his cigarette, took off his coat, and casually tossed it aside. Then, he started rolling up his shirt sleeves.
He sneered. "Got nothing to say, huh?"
Andrew frowned. "You wanna throw down?"
Frederick sneered harder. "Mr. Devereux, you got a problem with that? Let me spell it out for you, I'm Chloe's brother. She's sweet and shy, but I'm not so easy to mess with. So, what's your game plan?"
Andrew was always the decisive type.
He and Chloe couldn't be together back then, and now, after more than two years apart, there was even less reason to drag her into his messy life.
He quietly stubbed out his cigarette and said, "Nothing is gonna happen between us now"
Frederick didn't hold back and punched him square in the face.
Andrew took the hit, and a bruise quickly formed on his cheek.
Frederick's knuckles were a bit swollen, but he threw another punch.
Nathan quickly stepped in, trying to break it up. "Mr. Hawkins, chill out! You and Mr. Devereux are family. Calm down!"
Frederick shoved him aside and went at Andrew again. "You jerk! Chloe's 16 years younger than you! How could you?"
"And what about you? Should I list what you did to Charlotte? Clean up your own mess first!" Andrew snapped back.
Punches and kicks flew! Neither of them held back!
The household staff watched from a distance, knowing it was Frederick and Andrew fighting, but not knowing why!
Nathan, thinking fast, called Adeline.
Adeline rushed over.
As soon as she arrived, she saw Andrew and Frederick going at it hard. Both were giving it their all, faces and bodies bruised.
"Stop!" Adeline shouted angrily.
Andrew stopped first, stepping back and looking at Frederick. "We'll talk another day. I got a meeting now!"
Frederick wiped the blood from his mouth and mocked, "Mr. Devereux, how you gonna show up to a meeting looking like this? Not worried about ruining your perfect image?"
Adeline stepped between them, scolding Andrew, "How old are you two? You're usually so composed. How could you fight with a younger guy? And in front of the staff, how will you keep them in line later?"
She was clearly taking sides.
Andrew cursed Frederick in his head but gently told Adeline, "It's about Charlotte! Mom, please stay out of it!"
Adeline disagreed. "Aren't they doing fine now?"
Andrew rubbed his nose.
Frederick helped Adeline sit down, winning her favor, and said straight up, "He dated my sister for more than half a year!"
Adeline was stunned.
She picked up her cane and started whacking Andrew, scolding, "Tell me, is it true? Is it? I always thought you were so authoritative with Frederick; but today you're subdued. Turns out you did something shameful. I'll beat you! Go apologize to her and her parents!"
She hit him hard.
Andrew's back took several solid hits, burning with pain.
He had always been respectful and didn't dare to make Adeline angrier, so he knelt in front of her. "It's my fault! I couldn't control myself! But we're not right for each other."
Adeline was clearly taken aback. She hadn't expected Andrew to admit it.
After a long silence, she whispered, "Once is losing control, but how do you explain dating her for half a year? Andrew, you know your own abilities and charm. It's easy for a young girl to fall for you. You say you don't want Chloe anymore, but what about her future?"
She was deeply disappointed and wanted to leave.
Frederick quickly helped her up.
Adeline looked at him and softly said, "Next time, I'll personally go to Syeattel to apologize to your parents and to Chloe! This is Andrew's fault, and I will give your family an explanation."
Frederick had come with anger. But at this moment, his heart softened, and he said, "I was impulsive too."
Adeline shook her head, "You stood up for Chloe; there's nothing wrong with that!"
Frederick said quietly, "I'm not trying to force anything. I just want Andrew to make a statement. If he has no intentions towards Chloe, I'll set her up with someone else."
Andrew's heart skipped a beat.
'Dating?' The word dropped like a boulder into his calm heart, stirring it up!
Frederick calmed down and stood in front of Andrew, speaking in a matter-of-fact tone, "She hasn't said anything, but I can tell she likes you a lot and is deeply hurt! If you saw her now, you might not recognize her. Andrew, Chloe was raised in the Hawkins family and pampered. She never washed a dish, never did any housework, but now she..."
Frederick's voice choked up.
He took a moment to compose himself and then said softly, "If you don't want her, then don't mess with her anymore!"
Andrew's emotions were in turmoil.
