Chapter 684 It's Been so Long Since He Had Sex
When Landon finished talking, Caitlyn gave a small smile. "Mr. Carter, that's all ancient history. Things have changed," she said softly.
After she spoke, Caitlyn seemed a bit out of it.
Landon sat behind his desk, quietly watching her. Under the light, her face looked plain, not as stunning as it used to be. Whether it was age or the weight of new circumstances, Caitlyn no longer exuded that playful charm when looking at him. Suddenly, Landon couldn't take it.
This was harder for him to handle than her having a boyfriend. It meant Caitlyn had probably moved on from their past. Right now, in her eyes and heart, Landon was just an old guy with some cash.
Landon thought, 'That doctor Leonard is young and fit. How can I compete?'
He pulled out an unopened pack of cigarettes from the drawer. Since taking care of Katelyn, he rarely smoked, but now he needed one.
Caitlyn stood up and said, "I'll go check on Katelyn."
Landon didn't stop her. Holding the cigarette between his long fingers, he watched her walk away through the thin smoke. He looked for chances to get close to her, to be alone with her.
He actually wanted to ask about her and Leonard, but when she was in front of him, he didn't want to bring it up. This was their time together, so why talk about someone else?
Landon smoked alone in the study for a while.
At eight o'clock, Hazel knocked and came in.
Landon looked up and asked, "She left?"
The "she" was obviously Caitlyn.
Hazel didn't come in; she knew Landon didn't like people in the study. She stood by the door and said, "She left right at eight."
Just then, the sound of a car engine starting came from downstairs. Landon listened for a bit, then heard Hazel say, "Ms. Robinson has had a rough time. Maybe it's best to let her go."
Landon took a slow drag of his cigarette. He then asked casually, "Weren't you the one who suggested Katelyn should see Caitlyn as her mom?"
Hazel blushed and said, "I didn't know the situation back then."
Landon stubbed out the cigarette and said calmly, "Go keep Katelyn company. She gets scared when she wakes up and needs someone with her."
Just then, a faint scream came from Katelyn's room.
Landon shook his head and left the study, heading to Katelyn's room. Hazel thought for a moment but didn't follow.
In the room, Katelyn had woken up and was screaming because she didn't see Caitlyn.
Landon leaned against the doorway. After Katelyn finished screaming, he said calmly, "She's already gone."
Katelyn, with tears in her eyes, said, "Dad, why didn't you call me? What if she went on a date?"
Landon's eyes were deep. After a while, he said softly, "If she goes on a date, there's nothing I can do. I can't stop her from dating."
Katelyn only half understood. Landon came over and put a coat on her, worried she might catch a cold. Since birth, Katelyn's health had always been weak.
Katelyn was still upset, resting her head on Landon's shoulder, pouting. "Ms. Reynolds said Ms. Robinson was your girlfriend!"
Landon was momentarily dazed, then smiled bitterly. He said, "That was in the past."
Katelyn looked up at him and said, "Daddy, you're kinda pitiful."
"Pitiful?" Landon clutched his chest, feeling a pang of regret for his past actions.
Caitlyn left the Carter Manor, driving around aimlessly before heading home around 9 PM. She parked her car and turned off the engine.
A white BMW was parked in front of her. When Caitlyn got out, she saw Leonard. She walked up to him and said, "Isn't the hospital busy? Why are you here?"
Leonard looked at her deeply and said softly, "I had an eight-hour surgery today. It went well, and after finishing, I wanted to see you."
Even though they had their issues before, it felt really good to be appreciated by him.
So when Leonard invited her for a late-night snack, Caitlyn happily agreed. But first, she called Eden, who was thrilled to hear she was going on a date.
The date with Leonard was simple and sweet. They had some snacks, played some games, and watched a movie.
Leonard was always a perfect gentleman, and his demeanor was impeccable. Caitlyn felt really good. Before midnight, Leonard dropped her off downstairs. He looked up at her place and said, "It's late; I won't go up and disturb you."
Caitlyn said, "Okay."
Leonard turned off the engine and leaned over to talk. His voice was low. "How do you feel?"
"What?" Caitlyn's voice was a bit airy.
Leonard then leaned in closer, gently tucking her hair behind her ear, and smiled lightly. He didn't answer, but Caitlyn slowly understood, her face turning a bit red. She said, "Not bad."
Leonard's voice was deep. "Just not bad? Then I need to try harder."
Then he kissed the corner of her mouth.
The soft touch lasted for a while. He moved away and gazed at her in the dim car... Neither of them spoke. After a while, Leonard reached out and held her fingertips.
Pressing his forehead against hers, he said softly, "Caitlyn, I really like you."
When Caitlyn returned home, Eden was still awake.
Seeing Caitlyn's expression, Eden knew Leonard was reliable and that they got along well. She smiled without asking much, just making some food for Caitlyn.
Caitlyn said, "Mom, I had a late-night snack! Eating too much isn't good either!"
Eden was in a good mood, her smile barely hidden. "That's true! I'll sign you up for a yoga class."
Caitlyn shook her head and went to her room.
After a shower, she lay in bed and chatted with Leonard on Facebook for a bit. As she put down her phone, she couldn't help but think about Landon's offer.
Though the terms were good, she was currently seeing Leonard. Unaware of her history with Landon, Leonard was enthusiastic about the opportunity to build relationships with him. If she wanted to pursue her relationship with Leonard, she couldn't take on Katelyn as a student.
The next day, at the Carter Group headquarters in Seattle.
Landon had just seen off an important client and was resting on the sofa. His long fingers habitually reached for the cigarette box but then put it down.
At this moment, Cherie entered, "Mr. Carter, Ms. Robinson has something to discuss with you! Do you have time to see her?"
Landon frowned slightly and said, "You mean Caitlyn?"
Cherie smiled lightly and replied, "Yes, she is in the lobby on the first floor. Would you like to see her?"
Landon leaned back against the sofa, exhaling deeply. "Send her up. From now on, she can come directly without needing to check in."
Cherie nodded and responded, "Yes, Mr. Carter."
Cherie left and returned about five minutes later with Caitlyn. Landon, resting with his eyes closed, heard the door open and said, "Cherie, you can leave."
Cherie paused, then smiled and left, thoughtfully closing the door behind her. Only then did Landon open his eyes.
Caitlyn was wearing a light gold dress, one he remembered buying years ago, but it still looked classic and beautiful. Her hair was loosely tied, and she wore light makeup. She looked really good, almost as if she was on cloud nine.
Landon's facial muscles twitched slightly, and then he stared at her. "It seems your relationship is going well! Have you settled things with Leonard?" he asked.
Caitlyn walked up to him and said softly, "I have something to tell you."
She took out $20,000 from her bag and placed it on the table in front of Landon, along with the unsigned contract. She looked at him seriously and said, "I am serious about dating Leonard. He doesn't know about our past, so he's very friendly towards you. To avoid future conflicts... Mr. Carter, I've thought it over and I really can't teach Katelyn."
After speaking, she nodded slightly and turned to leave.
Landon called out to her.
"Do you care about him that much?" he asked. "So much that you don't even want to have any normal interactions with me?"
Caitlyn's throat tightened. She lifted her head and said, "Yes!"
As she reached the door, Landon's suppressed, painful, and angry voice came from behind, "Caitlyn!"
Caitlyn lowered her eyes. "You didn't want me back then. Didn't you think this day would come? I'm older now and want to get married to have a normal family. Is that so wrong? This has nothing to do with you, Mr. Carter!" she said.
She turned the door handle, ready to leave.
A force pulled her back, and she fell into a warm embrace. Then Landon pressed her against the door. After years, she felt again how firm Landon's body was. Despite spending every day in the office, he was all lean muscle.
Landon's thin lips brushed against her delicate ear. He whispered, "You want to get married? Fine, you can choose me. Don't you feel it's beneath you to settle for a man who can't even hold a candle to me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he received a slap across his handsome face. The sharp sound of the slap left both of them stunned, as if they had been transported back to three years ago.
Landon's thin lips tightened, and he stared at Caitlyn darkly, but he didn't intend to be rough with her.
Caitlyn suppressed her emotions, controlling herself. "I would never marry you, not in this lifetime!"
She fought against the urge to cry. After all, her life was finally on the right track. She had a loving boyfriend and a rising career.
But Landon, that old bastard, could still easily make her cry. How could he say such things? Did he really think that just because Phoebe had died, Caitlyn would still want him?
She would never take him back, not in a million years!
Caitlyn wanted to leave but couldn't. She could only breathe heavily, glaring at him with red eyes as if she wanted to bite him to death.
Landon suddenly grabbed her hand. She raised her hand, desperately trying to break free.
"Landon, what are you doing?" she asked.
The strength difference between a man and a woman was too great. No matter how much strength she used, she couldn't move him an inch. Instead, he pulled her into his arms. Compared to the cold, hard door behind her, his embrace was much more comfortable, but it was the last place Caitlyn wanted to be.
She lost her composure, her voice trembling. "Mr. Carter, what do you want?"
Landon lowered his head and kissed her directly. His lips captured hers, and despite her violent struggle, he continued to kiss her deeply. He held her as they stumbled against the door, their bodies uncontrollably rubbing against each other.
His hands couldn't help but caress her body. It had been so long since he had been with a woman, and now it was someone he cared about deeply. When his lips reached her delicate neck, everything came to a halt.
In the large space, Caitlyn's soft sobs could be heard.
Landon stopped, his face buried in her neck, whispering painfully, "Why are you crying? Caitlyn, do you not want me to touch you anymore? I'm single now. I haven't been with anyone for years..."
Caitlyn responded, "It's none of my business. Mr. Carter, please show some respect, or I will have to accuse you of sexual harassment."
Her voice was weak. In fact, she didn't even have the strength to stand. She held onto the door with one hand and pushed against his shoulder with the other, slowly pushing him away.
She continued, "I don't want you! You left so decisively back then, and now I am too."
Caitlyn gave him one last look, with no lingering feelings, only embarrassment. She wanted to leave, but Landon grabbed her wrist and said, "Fix your clothes before you go."
But Caitlyn pushed him away forcefully, stumbling and leaving his sight, leaving his world... Now he had everything, but Caitlyn didn't want him anymore.
Fortunately, the top floor only had Landon's office.
In the carpeted hallway, Caitlyn clutched her clothes tightly, her face covered in tears.
Cherie saw her and was shocked, quickly approaching her. "Ms. Robinson!"
Caitlyn took a deep breath, her whole body trembling. She said, "Help me find a restroom. I need to fix myself."
Cherie pursed her lips and immediately took Caitlyn to the next floor. She said, "There's usually no one here! I'll wait outside. Call me if you need anything."
Caitlyn said, "Thank you."
The restroom door closed, and Caitlyn slid down to the floor, sitting there and crying bitterly. It had been three years, and Landon was still such a bastard!
Cherie didn't know what to do when Landon appeared at the restroom door. She whispered, "Mr. Carter! She is crying."
Landon held a paper bag in his hand. He stared at the door, listening to the crying inside, and said softly, "When she comes out, give this to her to change into. She's missing a button."
Cherie thought to herself, 'Oh my God!'
Landon looked at the door again, then put down the bag and turned to leave. He actually wanted to tell her, "Caitlyn, all those years, it wasn't just you who couldn't let go. I couldn't either. But I was married. I had responsibilities. Now I'm single. I know this is despicable, but I still want you. If Leonard were a good man, it would be fine, but he's not right for you. How could someone like him be worthy of your innocence, purity, and carefree nature? You were meant to be cherished like a delicate flower."
Cherie watched Landon's back and saw his loneliness.
The restroom door opened, and Caitlyn washed off her makeup, looking very clean and beautiful. Upon closer inspection, her clothes were indeed missing a button. Yet Cherie didn't dare look too much, took the bag, and said, "Mr. Carter brought this himself."
