Chapter 107: Frederick, Are You Sick
Charlotte thought it was a bad idea to go with him.
Instead of answering, she went to change her shoes. "I'll take you to the airport."
Frederick watched her silently for a few seconds.
In the underground parking lot, Frederick had three cars: his usual Bentley Continental and two sports cars he rarely drove.
He opened a red Ferrari and sat in the passenger seat.
As soon as Charlotte got in, he handed her the keys. "Use this for commuting. It's not safe to come back late after teaching Sophie."
Charlotte bit her lip. "I want to buy one. This car is too flashy."
Frederick didn't argue.
With a $6 million monthly limit on the card Frederick gave her, buying a car was no issue.
Charlotte didn't say much and gently pressed the gas pedal.
Frederick, exhausted from a busy day, leaned back and closed his eyes to rest.
An hour later, Charlotte parked the car.
She turned to wake him.
Frederick blinked and slowly opened his eyes.
His deep-set eyes made him extremely handsome.
Charlotte asked softly, "Do you want me to walk you up?"
Frederick gently held her hand, caressing it. "No need, drive safely."
Charlotte thought he seemed really tired.
She felt she should show some concern. "You too, text me when you arrive."
The atmosphere felt different as they both lowered their heads. Frederick's gaze fell on her lips.
Charlotte leaned in and kissed him gently. "Safe travels."
Frederick suddenly deepened the kiss.
Charlotte was stunned.
He felt very hot, his skin unnaturally warm.
"Frederick, are you sick?" she asked.
He pressed his forehead against hers. "I think I might be. Feel it."
Charlotte turned her face away, her breath uneven. "If you delay, you'll miss your flight."
"Are you trying to get rid of me?" Frederick hugged her but opened the car door with one hand.
Charlotte silently pushed him away.
Seeing him struggle with his luggage, she softened. "If you're not feeling well, ask the flight attendant for medicine."
Frederick's gaze was deep. "Got it."
Charlotte almost wanted to go to Boston with him because he might be sick and alone.
But she held back.
Back at the apartment, she felt lonely.
She thought about their unusual cold war, realizing their restraint was because their relationship wasn't suitable for arguments.
Jealousy and arguments were for serious relationships.
But they weren't serious!
Even so, Charlotte still cared about him. She called Frederick three hours later to check on him.
Frederick answered, "I'm fine! I have a meeting soon. Goodbye."
Charlotte responded with a light "Okay."
After hanging up, she walked to the grand piano and gently played a tune.
She liked Frederick, and this affection wouldn't disappear because of their standoff.
It just taught her to be more restrained.
The next morning, Charlotte wanted to call him but was afraid of disturbing him.
She decided against it eventually.
With Frederick not around, she could focus on her career.
She called Ms. Garcia for her opinion. Ms. Garcia sounded cheerful. "Charlotte, let's have a meal together!"
At the restaurant, Charlotte learned Ms. Garcia wanted to start a company, too.
Ms. Garcia sighed, "I've got everything ready, even the preliminary audit of student sources. The only thing left is finding a suitable office. Rent in the city is crazy right now. The cheaper places are too far out, and parents won't go for that. The better locations cost a fortune."
Charlotte reassured her, "We'll find a place that works."
Ms. Garcia poured Charlotte a glass of water. "So, what do you think? Want to join me? You invest, and you'll get a salary and dividends. By the end of the year, the revenue won't be small."
Charlotte thought it over.
Working with Ms. Garcia could expand their reach, and Ms. Garcia was much more business-savvy.
Charlotte agreed.
They settled on Charlotte investing $500,000 for a 30% stake.
Charlotte was thrilled with the opportunity.
After the meal, she called Maria.
When Maria heard it was with Ms. Garcia, she agreed, "Ms. Garcia 's reliable."
There was a moment of silence.
Charlotte knew what was on Maria's mind. "Maria, I'm fine. Frederick treats me very well. Besides, he's young and handsome. I won't be mistreated"
Maria laughed.
She hesitated, then said softly, "Have you two... Charlotte, I'm worried you'll get hurt."
Charlotte's face warmed.
She knew what Maria meant. "Don't worry, Frederick is always careful."
Maria blushed too and didn't ask further.
Charlotte changed the subject. She mentioned she was going to pick out a car, and Maria was supportive. "If you're going to be in business, you need a car. It's necessary."
She also advised Charlotte to use her family's money for big purchases and not Frederick's, as it would be hard to explain later if she owed him too much.
Charlotte felt warm inside. "I see, Maria. Don't worry."
With Ms. Garcia handling the business, Charlotte had some free time and decided to go car shopping.
Considering her family's finances, a car between $100,000 and $150,000 seemed right.
At the BMW dealership, with the salesperson's help, Charlotte decided on a $130,000 car in less than an hour.
She paid in full and was about to speak to the salesperson when she saw someone familiar out of the corner of her eye.
Charlotte thought she was mistaken and looked again.
It was Tina and Lily's husband, Robert.
Tina was clinging to Robert's arm, chatting and laughing. They were also there to buy a car.
Robert hesitated, probably finding it too expensive.
Tina gave him a passionate kiss on the spot.
Robert immediately bought the car for her, his lavish gestures making Charlotte's eyes well up with tears.
Lily had been dating Robert since college and married him right after graduation.
How could he be fooling around with Tina?
Charlotte's mind was spinning. She didn't even know how to tell Lily.
Tina also saw Charlotte.
Her previously coquettish face turned cold, and she quickly dragged Robert away, clearly not wanting him to see Charlotte.
Charlotte stood there in a daze for a long time.
"Miss Russell?" the salesperson asked with a smile. "Do you have any other questions?"
Charlotte shook off her reverie and returned to her senses, apologizing with a smile.
After completing the paperwork, Charlotte walked out of the dealership.
She had driven Frederick's car today and was about to get in when a voice called out from behind. "Charlotte, we need to talk!"
