Chapter 268 This Is Our Wedding Night

Charlotte's heart was doing somersaults.

She bit her lip to keep from bawling and strutted in like it was just another day.

Frederick stashed his diary.

His long fingers brushed the drawer, and when he looked up, his eyes were all soft. "Is Lola out like a light?"

Charlotte set down the fruit platter, plopped into his lap, and placed his hand on her belly. "Yeah, she's out; the little one's waiting for you."

Frederick gently rubbed his palm, feeling the tiny life inside.

Too bad it was still too small to feel any kicks. Otherwise, he could at least feel his own kid's heartbeat.

He leaned in closer, their noses touching, skin brushing in a way that made her heart race. He teased her, speaking boldly, "Is it the kid who misses me, or do you wanna snuggle?"

Charlotte wrapped her arms around his neck.

She was only in a thin silk nightgown, barely any barrier. Normally, he would've gone wild, but she was pregnant, and he had other things on his mind.

Frederick just kissed her, soft and lingering.

His big hands kept teasing her gently.

Finally, he rested his forehead against hers, breathing lightly. "Charlotte, wouldn't it be awesome if this moment could last forever? We've hit the end of the line."

Charlotte's eyes were misty, and she gently touched his lips with her slender finger. "Frederick, we haven't even tied the knot yet. This ain't the end."

Frederick's gaze deepened.

He looked at her for a long time before speaking hoarsely, "Let's get hitched tomorrow. Charlotte, just the two of us, okay?"

Charlotte's voice was shaky as she agreed.

The next morning, Frederick skipped his run; he made a call to Cherie, asking her to prep the documents.

Cherie showed up in the afternoon, and Dana led her to the study on the second floor.

Cherie's emotions were all over the place, but she forced a smile. "Mr. Hawkins. I've got all the documents ready."

Frederick nodded and took the papers.

The thick stack was the equity transfer agreement for Vertex Innovations Group.

Frederick was handing over his 65% ownership to his wife, Charlotte. Once signed and notarized by a lawyer, it would be a done deal.

Frederick skimmed through the documents.

He handed them to Charlotte, speaking softly, "The Hawkins Group might go to our kids someday, but Vertex Innovations Group is my gift to you. I'll get some pro managers involved, and with Cherie's help, Charlotte, you can handle it."

He might not be able to stick around till the end.

Making sure she was set financially was something a husband had to do.

With these assets, even if he lost his memory, she wouldn't feel small or back down. If he ever made her sad, she could kick him out with nothing.

Charlotte's lips trembled. "Aren't we getting married? Frederick, I don't want anything; I just want you."

Frederick patted her head and smiled gently. "So, this is the dowry."

He was scared he might hurt her in the future,

So while he was still clear-headed, he gave her everything.

Even though they were getting married, it was so bittersweet that Charlotte couldn't help but cry.

Cherie quietly slipped out.

Outside the door, she couldn't help but tear up, feeling sad for Frederick and Charlotte.

In the study, Charlotte stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, feeling a bit resistant.

Frederick got her thoughts. He walked over and hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder, his voice low. "Please don't cry, okay?"

Charlotte couldn't help it; she was still sad.

Frederick's warm fingers wiped away her tears as he spoke nonsense to cheer her up. "Now that you're President of Vertex Innovations Group, no matter where I go, I can always see you. Charlotte, do you think I can ever escape your grasp?"

Charlotte spun around in his arms and buried herself in his chest.

His shirt got soaked with her tears.

It was super uncomfortable.

But he didn't care 'cause these tender moments were getting rarer and rarer.

In the end, Charlotte signed the papers.

She took over as the new president of Vertex Innovations Group, worth over $20 billion.

Their wedding had zero guests.

It went down in a tiny chapel, with just a Bible and a pair of wedding rings on the altar.

Frederick wore a crisp white shirt and a black velvet tuxedo.

It was Charlotte's favorite look.

Charlotte, not even two months pregnant, with no baby bump yet, picked a simple wedding dress with a tight waist. Her golden hair flowed down to her waist, looking all beautiful and romantic.

They exchanged rings and slipped them on each other's fingers.

With their fingers touching, Frederick looked into Charlotte's eyes and said softly, "I promise to never abandon or betray our marriage."

Charlotte's eyes were misty.

She looked up at Frederick and also said softly, "I promise to never abandon or separate from our love."

Frederick leaned down and kissed her.

It was their wedding night, and he took her back to the apartment where it all started.

The master bedroom was filled with roses.

Frederick held Charlotte and gently laid her on the soft bed.

On this bed, they had their first intimate moment.

On this bed, they had countless passionate nights. If tomorrow was the end of the world, Frederick's biggest wish would be to come back to this place with Charlotte and get lost in her.

She was pregnant, and he was always mindful of that.

He whispered in her ear, "Charlotte, I want to see you happy, can I?"

Charlotte's body trembled slightly,

She closed her eyes, tears slipping from the corners, but she still gently opened her robe.

She laid herself bare for him.

Late at night, they went back to the villa.

Charlotte was wiped out and fell into a deep sleep, but Lola woke up.

She was sensitive and had naturally sensed the vibe at home. She was anxious but didn't bother her parents.

Lola lay awake with her eyes open.

Frederick wrapped her in a small blanket and carried her to the living room, gently soothing her.

The light was warm and yellow.

Lola lay on her dad's lap, eyes closed, listening to him read a story. She could recite them by heart, but she just loved hearing her dad read to her.

Frederick read while gently stroking her curly hair.

He suddenly spoke, "Lola, I might have to go on a business trip."

Lola slowly opened her eyes.

Frederick's fingers lingered, his voice growing more hoarse. "I might have to go far away for a long time. Lola, will you help me take care of Mommy and your little brother?"

Lola didn't move.

After a while, she softly asked, "Daddy, will it be cold there?"

Frederick smiled faintly. "A little."

Lola's voice had a hint of a nasal tone. "Then you should take more clothes, so you won't be cold. When I have a break, I'll come to see you. My body is warm, and if I hug you, you won't be cold."

Frederick's throat tightened.

He kissed Lola.

She was so smart and adorable.

He couldn't bear to leave her, and he couldn't help but kiss her, calling her name, "Lola."

Lola's eyes were filled with tears.

She lay in Frederick's arms and asked in a small voice, "Daddy, how long will you be gone?"

Frederick held her, silent for a long time, before whispering, "I don't know. Maybe three years, or five years, or maybe until you grow up."

Lola didn't cry. She hugged her daddy, soaking up his warmth.
