Chapter 69 Frederick Could Easily Shake Their Foundations
Charlotte glanced up at the sound of a familiar voice and spotted Tina engaged in conversation with a group of affluent ladies, parents of her former piano students.
Initially amicable, their relationship deteriorated when Charlotte's reputation suffered, leading to demands for her replacement. Tina had stepped in to take over.
The tension was palpable as they now crossed paths. The wealthy ladies strained smiles but refrained from greeting her, while Charlotte maintained her gracious demeanor.
Dumped by Ethan, Tina bore the most animosity towards Charlotte. Capitalizing on the audience of parents, she seized the opportunity to belittle her.
Approaching, Tina remarked, "Charlotte, what a surprise to see you here! Seems like you're managing fine post-resignation. The coffee's pricey, especially now that your family's facing troubles—must be tough adjusting."
Charlotte remained composed.
Tina's voice rose, "The rumors on the school forum, they're baseless, right? You wouldn't resort to being with an older man just for show, would you?"
The affluent ladies gasped, suddenly noticing Charlotte's beauty and speculating she might have offered complimentary lessons to entice their spouses. Their opinions soured further.
Rather than refute, Charlotte smiled serenely, stating, "I've recently started seeing someone."
Tina, taken aback, hadn't anticipated Charlotte's candid admission. It appeared she had indeed found a wealthy suitor, securing financial stability.
Returning the smile, Tina remarked to the affluent women, "Everyone has their own pursuits!"
The parents commended Tina warmly, echoing sentiments they once directed at Charlotte.
"We trust our children with Ms. Anderson."
"The most important thing is character."
"Tina looks like a decent person."
Praised by the wealthy ladies she had taken from Charlotte, Tina savored the satisfaction. Leaning in, she whispered to Charlotte, "I wouldn't bother attending the reunion if I were you. Save yourself the humiliation!"
Charlotte lowered her gaze and sighed softly, "Is Ethan truly worth it?"
Initially close friends in college, she and Tina had soured due to Ethan.
Tina left with a cold smile. Whether it was worth it or not, she just couldn't stand seeing Charlotte doing well.
Once it was quiet again in the cafe, Charlotte turned to Lily. "You were surprisingly composed today. Usually, you would've lost your cool by now."
Flipping her hair, Lily responded, "Save the best for later! Imagine the reactions when Frederick sits by your side at the reunion. Don't be swayed by appearances; these ladies' spouses rely on the Hawkins Group and Frederick's legal influence. He could easily shake their foundations."
At the mention of Frederick, Charlotte's lips curved slightly. Concealing her grin with a sip of coffee, she inquired, "Is he truly that influential?"
Lily teased, "You're well aware, aren't you?"
Charlotte didn't demur.
Suddenly, a message from Frederick appeared: [Ms. Russell, how was last night for you?]
Blushing, Charlotte bit her lip and responded: [Not too shabby.]
Almost instantly, another message popped up: [I had a great time! Should we make an early exit on Saturday at the reunion?]
Uncertain how to reply, Charlotte watched as Lily snatched the phone, her expression a mix of embarrassment and amusement. Frederick's straightforwardness about personal matters between them was both audacious and intriguing.
