Chapter 137 I Wish You Eternal Happiness

Charlotte finished talking and shook off Frederick.

"Lily, let's go!"

Lily was heartbroken and furious.

She yelled at Frederick, "You jerk! I hope you die alone!"

Charlotte lowered her eyes. "Lily, stop. Mr. Hawkins and I are parting on good terms."

Lily knew Charlotte endured this for William's sake.

If Charlotte could handle it, so could she.

Lily choked up, "Fine! Let's go home."

Frederick grabbed Charlotte's hand again.

This time, Charlotte forcefully shook it off.

"Miss Russell," Elijah stepped forward and sincerely apologized, "Katherine is young and immature. We didn't think things through. I apologize and hope you'll give Frederick a chance to explain, for my sake."

Charlotte gave a faint smile.

She was in pain but still had to argue her case.

Who else but Lily would feel her pain?

Charlotte looked steadily at Elijah. "Mr. Mitchell, you did nothing wrong! Katherine is your daughter. It's natural for you and Mrs. Mitchell to be biased toward her. As for Katherine, there's nothing wrong with her pursuing her love."

Charlotte took a deep breath.

She slowly scanned the faces around her and said, "Mr. Hawkins and I have known each other for a while. I wish him and Miss Mitchell a lifetime of happiness."

Elijah was stunned.

He hadn't expected the girl in front of him to be so strong-willed, reminding him of Victoria.

Years ago, he and Victoria had a falling out due to a misunderstanding, and she had also broken ties with him with teary eyes.

He wondered where was Victoria now. If she had given birth to a daughter, would she also endure such humiliation and bullying like Miss Russell?

Elijah, being kind-hearted, couldn't help but tear up thinking of his daughter, whom he had never met. He wanted to comfort Charlotte.

But Charlotte had already turned and left.

She was in pain but stood tall.

It was already humiliating enough; she didn't want to be laughed at any further.

Lily used all her strength to support her, her voice choked with tears. "Charlotte, please don't be so stubborn. If you want to cry, just cry. Everyone meets a few scumbags in their life! If they betray us, we fight back. Don't hold it in."

Charlotte paused.

She said softly, "I will forget him and start anew!"

Lily was stunned.

And Frederick, who had caught up, heard Charlotte's words.

A look of confusion crossed his mature, handsome face.

Charlotte said she would forget him.

Would she really forget him?

If she broke up with him, would she treat him like a stranger, introducing him to her new boyfriend as casually as she did with Ethan?

Images flashed through Frederick's mind. Their first awkward encounter, her feigned confidence in the car returning from the golf course. The magic of her playing the piano in the French restaurant, her fingers dancing across the keys. All of it had moved him deeply. And the intimacy of their shared moments in the apartment, where he loved to call her "morning dew" in her moments of passion.

Charlotte was his first true love.

He regretted it.

Frederick rarely regretted anything in relationships.

When he broke up with Katherine years ago, he had done it so decisively and had never felt regret since.

Perhaps he had some youthful affection for her.

Perhaps it was out of respect for Mr. Mitchell.

But he had never regretted it, nor had he ever thought that if he had spent more time with her, she might not have ended up with someone else.

But today, he had hurt Charlotte, and it was different. He deeply regretted it—every harsh word, every misunderstanding. The pain of seeing her hurt was almost unbearable. Parting ways with Charlotte was something he couldn't fathom. He wanted to make amends, to show her how much she meant to him. They shouldn't end like this.

Frederick grabbed the car door and looked at Charlotte. "I'll take you back."

Charlotte sat in the car, unusually calm. "Frederick, let's make a clean break."

She spoke softly, "Mr. Hawkins, I'm not like you. I don't like dragging out relationships or lingering attachments."

Frederick frowned deeply, wanting to explain.

But Charlotte's eyes reddened as she stared at him. "Frederick, I'm in so much pain! Can you let me go now?"

He was stunned for a moment. Taking the opportunity, Charlotte slammed the door shut.

Frederick's fingers slammed into the door, turning blue and purple with pain.

Frederick instinctively took a step back, and Lily cursed "jerk" again before driving away.

Frederick saw Charlotte crying through the glass, not knowing if it was because of the pain or because of him.

Katherine walked over. "Frederick, is your hand okay? Miss Russell is really too much. How could she treat you like that? Frederick, let me take you to the doctor."

Frederick listened to Katherine's considerate words, feeling extremely irritated.

He pushed Katherine away. "Get lost!"

Katherine was stunned.

She slowly raised her eyes to look at him. His expression was one she had never seen before.

Katherine's heart trembled.

Did Frederick really fall in love with Charlotte?

Frederick got into his car.

He drove fast, almost arriving at Charlotte's place at the same time as Lily.

Charlotte got out of the car without even looking at him. To her, Frederick was just an irrelevant passerby now.

His heart tightened.

Frederick said, "Charlotte!"

Lily supported Charlotte and threw two pieces of paper at him.

"These are Charlotte's diagnosis and surgery consent forms. Take a good look! When Charlotte was in excruciating pain, where were you? You jerk! You don't deserve Charlotte! You don't deserve her love. You should be with someone like Katherine and stop hurting others!"

After cursing, Lily felt relieved.

She supported Charlotte upstairs.

After a while, the lights in the apartment came on.

Frederick leaned against the golden Bentley, carefully reading Charlotte's diagnosis and surgery consent forms by the moonlight. The dense words almost suffocated him.

He was the one who had hurt Charlotte.

He was the one who had left her alone in the operating room.

Frederick remembered their first time together, how she cried in pain, soaking the bedsheet with her tears.

Charlotte was so afraid of pain!

Frederick didn't get back in the car; he leaned against the car door and slowly smoked.

He stood there all night.

At dawn, Lily went out to buy breakfast. As she passed the golden Bentley, she spat.

Frederick ignored her.

After Lily left, he immediately opened the car door, got out, and walked to Charlotte's apartment to ring the doorbell.

Charlotte thought Lily had returned and struggled to open the door.

When the door opened, it was Frederick.

He was holding several nutritional supplements and two breakfasts from her favorite place.

Charlotte didn't let him in.

She spoke very calmly, "Frederick, I'm just not feeling well, not having a miscarriage. You don't need to do this!"

Besides, her heart was already broken.

Anything he did now would be redundant!
