Chapter 548 If There's A Child, We'll Have It!

Lola leaned back in her chair, feeling weak. "I think I overdid it with the food. No need to make a big deal out of it."

She paused, then whispered, "It's not like I could be pregnant or anything."

Seeing her discomfort, Johnny moved closer and touched her face. "Your face is so cool in this heat! Let's get you to the hospital."

No matter what Lola said, Johnny was determined.

He took her to the hospital.

At the gastroenterology department, the doctor asked about her symptoms and then casually said, "You two are a couple, right?"

Lola nodded. "Yeah."

The doctor scribbled a note. "Head over to obstetrics and gynecology."

Lola was taken aback. "But that's not likely!"

The doctor gave her a look. "Better to check it out first."

Lola wanted to argue, but Johnny gently pulled her away. He looked serious but tried to act casual.

As they left, Lola muttered, "I can't be pregnant!"

Johnny patted her gently. "You sit here; I'll go register."

Lola sat down, and as Johnny was about to leave, she tugged at his shirt, her voice soft. "Johnny, if I am pregnant, would you want to keep the baby?"

Johnny came back, just holding her gently.

Lola buried her face in his waist. After a moment, she whispered, "I'm a little scared."

If she was pregnant, they weren't ready, and they hadn't seen a doctor. Would the baby be okay?

Johnny leaned down and kissed her head. "Don't worry! I'm here with you!"

Lola lingered for a bit before Johnny went to register.

The obstetrician was quick, and they got the results in half an hour.

Lola was five weeks pregnant!

It must have happened before Johnny's vasectomy, maybe a condom broke, leading to an accidental pregnancy.

Lola stared at the test results, feeling stunned.

After a while, she looked up at Johnny.

He looked back at her calmly. Lola couldn't hold back and called out, "Johnny!"

Johnny's Adam's apple bobbed. He spoke softly, "We'll talk outside."

Lola followed him out, and they sat in the car. After a long silence, Johnny gently touched her lower abdomen, his voice hoarse. "I'll set up an appointment with a specialist tomorrow for a thorough check-up."

He agreed to keep the baby without much hesitation.

It wasn't that he hadn't thought about the risks. But he could see that Lola really wanted it.

After Johnny spoke, Lola's eyes got a bit teary.

She had known Johnny for over 20 years and liked him for many of those years. She had compromised a lot, and this time he didn't hesitate much to compromise for her, giving up his own stance.

At that moment, she felt more than ever that they were a real couple, not just people who shared meals and a bed.

Lola wasn't usually this fragile, but now she just wanted to lean on him and have him by her side.

Johnny gently stroked her hair, his voice low. "Everything will be fine."

That's what he believed. Since they hadn't prevented it, they would face it together.

The baby wasn't just Lola's responsibility!

They went back to their apartment, and Lola, probably because of the pregnancy, fell asleep as soon as they got back.

Johnny made several phone calls outside.

He pulled some strings to get the best specialist to fly in for a consultation with Lola. The call lasted about half an hour, and he finally arranged everything.

After hanging up, the apartment was quiet.

There seemed to be a hint of sweetness in the air.

Johnny stood at the bedroom door for a while, then couldn't resist going in. He sat by the bed and kissed Lola's forehead. She looked as sleepy as she did when she was a kid.

He watched her for a long time, then picked up his phone to look up information about pregnancy, reading everything from recipes to prenatal education.

He was so engrossed that by the time he looked up, it was already evening. The setting sun shone through the glass, casting a warm glow.

Lola woke up and looked at Johnny tenderly. "How long was I out?"

Johnny leaned in, touching his forehead to hers. "Almost three hours!"

His hand slipped under the blanket, gently touching her lower abdomen. "Is being pregnant really that tiring?"

Lola leaned into him, enjoying the intimacy. "It's only been a little over a month. How could it be tiring already?"

"Should I check your work schedule then?"

Lola had a busy few months ahead. She thought for a moment and answered, "I'll try to cut back."

Johnny looked at her, and after a moment, they both laughed. "If I had known, I wouldn't have had the vasectomy!"

Lola rested her head on his waist. "Maybe you should get it reversed!"

She figured one child might be enough, and they could take precautions after that.

Johnny didn't say anything, just kept gently touching her belly. Finally, he asked, "What do you want to eat? I'll make it for you."

"I want fish soup."

He kissed her. "You got it! I'll make it for you."

While making the fish soup, Johnny called Frederick to share the news.

Frederick was stunned for a moment. "So, when's the wedding?"

Johnny smiled, looking at the fish soup. "We'll stick to the original date. Lola hasn't had much of an appetite, but she should be fine by then."

Frederick was thrilled. He rubbed his hands together, pacing around.

Charlotte walked in, frowning slightly. "What's got you so happy?"

Frederick motioned for her to come over.

Charlotte leaned in, and Frederick whispered, "Lola's pregnant!"

He couldn't help but add, "Johnny really came through!"

Charlotte was both happy and annoyed, giving her husband a light slap. "You can't say that in front of the kids! Act your age!"

Frederick pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

After a while, he said softly, "How am I not acting my age? You never complain when I hold you."

Charlotte didn't respond. She wanted to fly over to Lola's place and make some nutritious food for her, but Frederick stopped her. "Even though it's their first time being parents, you know Johnny is good at taking care of people. Let the young couple have some time to themselves first."

Charlotte thought about it and agreed. She couldn't help but praise him for his thoughtfulness, and Frederick was quite pleased with himself!

A week later, the foreign specialist arrived.

It was better than Lola had expected; the baby was fine, and all the tests showed normal results. But the baby still had a special blood type.

She looked tense, and Johnny bent down to kiss her. "It's all good!"

Johnny kissed her again.

Lola originally wanted to mention that he hadn't wanted kids before and had gone for a vasectomy. But in the end, she just watched him touch her belly.

At that moment, it was peaceful and beautiful, and she was willing to trade anything for it.

Johnny was very good to her.

He took her home and started making calls to colleagues and friends.

"Francis Barnes, try to reduce my schedule for the next two months. Yes, I need to take care of my wife."

"Gavin, let's move our meeting the day after tomorrow to my place. Lola is pregnant and can't be left alone!"

"Kingsley, the supplements you brought last time were great. Can you get more? Lola is pregnant and needs them!"

He made the calls seriously, each one mentioning Lola's pregnancy.

Lola listened for a long time and weakly protested, "Johnny, you're acting like I'm the only woman in the world who can get pregnant! You don't need to make such a big deal out of it."

Johnny lowered his head and touched her nose. "But I'm the one who got you pregnant. If I don't make a big deal out of it, who will?"

Lola smiled. "That's pretty sweet!"

Johnny touched her belly. "It must be a baby girl!"
