Chapter 45 Ethan, I've Changed My Mind
Charlotte also felt that this long dress suited her. She sat down and complimented Cherie, "Cherie has a good eye."
Frederick didn't respond.
The housekeeper, Jessica, brought over breakfast and apologized, "I didn't know Ms. Russell would be here! Please make do with this for now. Let me know what you'd like to eat, and I'll make it for you tomorrow morning."
Charlotte nodded, but it was Frederick's home, and he had hired Jessica. She had no reason to order her around.
Charlotte smiled and said, "This is just fine."
Jessica breathed a sigh of relief and thought, 'She seemed easy to get along with.' She rubbed her hands and quickly got back to work in the kitchen.
Frederick folded up the newspaper.
He glanced at Charlotte, who was quietly drinking milk. Coming from a middle-class family, her table manners were refined and didn't seem pretentious.
Frederick found it pleasing to the eye.
Born into privilege, he was pursued by countless women as an adult due to his looks and abilities. Frederick had high standards and was picky. While other men might enjoy having a innocent girl around to satisfy their egos, Frederick was not one of them. Any woman he considered being with had to be compatible with him.
He liked both Charlotte's appearance and temperament. He was even willing to live with her.
Charlotte was unaware of this. After drinking half a glass of milk, she thought it best to inform him. "I've lost all my jobs except the classes at Sophie's. There's a class tomorrow night."
Frederick didn't object.
He asked calmly, "Do you like the piano that much? I thought you played well. Why didn't you continue your studies?" With Charlotte's family, it wasn't a matter of affordability.
Charlotte smiled faintly.
She had considered it. She had once received an acceptance letter from ArtSound Institute and had even packed her bags, but Maria had strongly opposed it. Maria said Charlotte was the child she had painstakingly raised and couldn't let her fly away.
Maria had never had children of her own and was very possessive of Charlotte. After a month of deadlock, Charlotte stayed in Syeattel.
Her teacher had regretfully said, "Charlotte, you are the most talented student I've ever seen. It's such a pity you chose to teach instead of studying abroad."
Charlotte felt there was no need to divulge all of this to Frederick; it was her own life, after all.
Noticing her shift in demeanor, Frederick was about to speak when his phone buzzed.
It was a message from his father: [Frederick, there's a clue about Mr. Mitchell's long-lost daughter. Make sure to clear your schedule when he returns from abroad."
Attached was a photo of a pink diamond necklace.
Frederick found it familiar but couldn't recall where he'd seen it.
Just then, Cherie called, so he exited the photo album.
Cherie worked quickly and had already arranged for William's bail, just waiting for Frederick to sign.
Frederick hung up the phone. He told Charlotte, "I'm going to the police station. Wait for my news at home; you should be able to see him today."
Charlotte was very grateful and thanked him softly.
Frederick grabbed his coat and stood up gracefully. Charlotte changed her shoes and walked him downstairs.
A black luxury car was parked downstairs.
Cherie was waiting by the car. Seeing Charlotte, she nodded politely. "Miss Russell."
Charlotte nodded back.
Frederick opened the car door and got in. He was handsome and carried himself with an air of elegance and nobility.
Charlotte suddenly remembered what he had said: [Charlotte, it's not necessarily about who benefits more between us!]
She wholeheartedly agreed with that statement at this moment.
She watched Frederick's car drive away and was about to go upstairs when her phone rang.
It was Ethan calling.
Charlotte thought for a moment and decided to answer. She softly said, "Ethan, I've changed my mind."
