Chapter 400 It's over
Tina was floored.
She gawked at Brian, her perfectly done-up eyes now bloodshot.
No way!
How the hell was Brian here?
According to the insider info, he should've been out of commission and out of the race.
Tina was losing it, turning to Elizabeth. "What the hell is going on? Ask them why Brian's here racing!"
Elizabeth looked like a ghost.
She fumbled for her phone and called the club owner. "Didn't you say Brian wouldn't race? Well, he's here! You jerk!"
Elizabeth chucked the phone.
Tina slapped Elizabeth. "You set me up, you witch!"
"Why would I screw myself over too?" Elizabeth's pale face now had a red handprint.
She touched her cheek, pissed. "We've been played! But it's not over yet. If Landon wins, we win! Tina, you're his girl. Call him and tell him to take Brian out, whatever it takes!"
Tina was skeptical. Elizabeth had lost all her trust.
But Landon was her last shot.
Tina grabbed her phone and called Landon.
Landon picked up, sounding lazy. "What's up?"
Tina's voice shook. "Why is Brian here?"
"Isn't it normal for him to race?"
Tina was stumped. She didn't care about anything else and begged, "I put 400 million dollars into this race, almost all my money. Landon, for us, you have to win today no matter what."
Landon was chewing gum.
He was super chill. "We'll see."
Tina was freaking out. That was 400 million dollars!
When Tina kept pushing, Landon got annoyed. "I banged a chick four times last night. My legs are shot. I might not even race!"
Tina screamed, "Landon, you jerk!"
"Didn't you already know?" Landon hung up.
When Tina called back, his phone was off. She muttered in despair, "It's over! Everything's over!"
Elizabeth acted clueless. "He said no?"
Tina's eyes were red. "He's just a womanizing jerk! Where's Charlotte? I need to find her. If I lose money, she loses money too."
Elizabeth sneered.
Tina stormed out to find Charlotte, but four bodyguards blocked the door. "Mr. Hawkins said no one is to be disturbed."
Tina made a scene.
Probably hearing the ruckus, Frederick came out and frowned at Tina.
"Mr. Hawkins, I need to see Charlotte." Tina looked desperate.
Frederick had his hands in his pockets.
He stared at her, knowing her dirty deeds better than anyone. She indirectly caused Ethan's death, attacked Charlotte, and even killed that electrician during their affair.
Tina was guilty as hell!
Frederick held back his disgust and said coldly, "Charlotte's pregnant and needs rest."
He turned to go back in.
Tina grabbed his sleeve, pleading, "I heard Charlotte also bet on Landon, but now he might not win. I need to talk to her. She put in 200 million dollars too."
Frederick shook her off.
He chuckled. "Just 200 million? That's pocket change for her. It's just a hobby!"
Tina's face went blank.
Frederick had already gone back inside.
Meanwhile, the racers were lined up on the track.
Brian's fans went nuts, cheering like crazy.
They chanted his name.
Brian waved casually, then blew a kiss to Sophie in the stands.
Sophie's cheeks turned a bit pink.
With the crack of the starting gun, the cars shot off like rockets. The air buzzed with the sound of engines and the thrill of speed.
One lap, two laps, three laps.
Brian stayed way ahead, with Landon trailing 300 feet behind.
Tina clung to hope. She prayed Landon still cared enough to fight for her.
But as the laps went by, Landon stayed in second, never pushing forward.
On the final lap, Brian crossed the finish line first.
He coolly opened the car door, took off his helmet, and hugged Sophie, giving her a deep kiss.
He whispered in her ear, "This is my last race! Now we can focus on having kids, and you won't have to worry anymore."
Sophie's eyes teared up.
Brian was emotional too. When he met Sophie, he was in his wild phase. He loved racing and had no plans to quit, even after marrying Sophie, he still raced every year.
Sophie never complained, but when it came to kids, she always said maybe later.
He knew she was giving him time to be wild and free.
He loved racing, but he loved Sophie more.
While they embraced, Tina slumped in her seat.
She was done for!
400 million dollars, gone!
Tina was seething, but she didn't know who to blame. She felt like everyone was against her!
She sat there, muttering to herself.
Elizabeth was too scared to get close. "Miss Anderson!"
Tina suddenly glared at her. "Who set me up? Was it you, Charlotte, or Landon?"
She lunged at Elizabeth, trying to strangle her.
Elizabeth bolted, screaming for help.
A few bodyguards grabbed her, then turned to Tina. "Miss Anderson, Ms. Russell wants to see you!"
Tina was a mess. But she still cared about her looks and straightened her clothes.
Charlotte's box was different; it was like a cozy hotel room, beautifully decorated.
Charlotte was sitting on a small sofa.
She was holding a fancy necklace, the one Tina had given her.
By now, Tina understood everything. It was Charlotte who set her up!
"Why?" She asked, eyes red. "I was good to you, but you did this to me. What for? Didn't you lose 200 million too?"
Charlotte kept her eyes on the necklace.
She ignored Tina's question and said, "This necklace is gorgeous! Beautiful things always make people fight for them! Tina, aren't you tired of fighting all these years?"
Tina lifted her head defiantly. "It's not over! Charlotte, just wait!"
Charlotte smiled slightly.
She smirked. "Tina, you really think you still have a shot? Let me break it down for you. This whole thing was my plan from the start. From Elizabeth to Landon, even Matthew showing up was all part of it. If you weren't so obsessed with marrying into the Carter family, you wouldn't have been so easy to fool. Oh, and by the way, I didn't just put 200 million on Landon. Frederick and I also bet 2 billion on Brian."
Tina was livid.
Charlotte was a snake!
Just then, the door swung open, and Landon strolled in.
Tina stared at his young, handsome face.
Her whole body shook.
She couldn't wrap her head around it; the guy she had been so close with had been playing her all along.
He never even tried to win her over.
It was her who threw everything at him.
Charlotte asked softly, "Tina, don't you think Landon looks like someone?"
Tina froze.
Charlotte was talking about Ethan!
Charlotte lowered her eyes and sneered. "The more someone ignores you, the more you want them. Tina, you actually lost to yourself! You just can't accept that Ethan died because of you. You don't like Landon; you subconsciously want to use him as a replacement for Ethan!"
"I'm not!" Tina couldn't handle it and screamed.
She blurted out, "I didn't hurt him! He took that drug and still wanted to find you! Can you blame me? He died because of his feelings for you. Charlotte, the one who should feel guilty is you!"
Charlotte smiled faintly.
At that moment, two women burst through the door.
It was Ethan's mom and sister.
Daisy heard what Tina said and went pale, rushing forward to strangle Tina, ready to fight her to the death.
"You witch! You gave Ethan that drug. He wanted to drive back, yet you didn't stop him! Witch, you're so cruel!"
Daisy fought like a madwoman.
Even though Tina was younger, she couldn't break free.
Daisy choked her while shouting, "Jenny, smash this witch's mouth!"
Jenny cried as she stepped forward and slapped Tina hard.
She hit so hard that Tina's face swelled up, and her sharp nails dug into the flesh.
Tina was a mess.
She screamed, "Landon, won't you help me?"
But Landon sneered. "Why should I help you? Who are you to me?"
Tina was completely stunned.
She looked at Daisy, at Jenny, then at Elizabeth, Charlotte, Jenna, and Frederick. Everyone looked at her with disgust, like she was a disease.
Yeah, she was a disease!
Beautiful things were always toxic!
Tina caught a glimpse of her face in the mirror; she was dazed. She seemed to forget the pain, gently stroking her face and said, "It's over!"
Charlotte tossed the necklace to her. "Tina, this is all you have left!"
Tina picked up the necklace and joyfully put it on, she started dancing and talking to herself, "You're right. I did it all! Ethan didn't love me; he deserved to die! He got hit by a car; it was his own fault. He had just slept with me and was thinking about you, Charlotte. Even after you got married, he still thought about you. Didn't he deserve to die? And why are you still alive, Charlotte? I bribed the electrician. I had him mess with the chandelier. Too bad! Charlotte, you are lucky! Ethan's necklace hanging on you saved your life, and even Gabriel admired you. Ethan, even after you died, you helped her! How can I not hate you all?"
The room went dead silent.
Tina's smile was creepy. "But this time, I really wanted to be friends with you! Charlotte, why didn't you give me a chance?"
Charlotte placed a recording device on the table, her face stone-cold. "It's over, Tina. No more chances!"
Tina stared at the recorder, but she was eerily calm. Life and death didn't seem to matter anymore.
Because she had lost. She was broke. Being beneath others would be worse than death.
She laughed, a laugh uglier than crying.
She kept repeating, "The one I love most is Ethan."
A few cops walked in.
They took Tina away, along with the recording device. Tina was facing murder charges, and with multiple counts, she was likely looking at the death penalty.
Tina stumbled out.
At the door, she suddenly turned back.
She looked at Charlotte and softly asked, "I want to ask you one last thing! The orphanage director said my daughter was adopted by a couple abroad, who were archaeologists. Is it true?"
Charlotte sat inside.
The light behind her made it hard for Tina to see her face.
After a moment, Charlotte spoke, "It's true! They're good people."
Tina smiled. Two tears rolled down, soaking into her fancy clothes. Maybe this was the last time she'd wear something so nice.
Without Tina, the room was unusually quiet.
Ethan's mom and sister thanked everyone and left, supporting each other.
The bodyguards left too.
Everyone was gone.
Charlotte felt exhausted; she leaned on Frederick's shoulder and softly said, "Frederick, turns out revenge doesn't make me happy. It just makes me feel this heavy weight."
Frederick gently stroked her hair.
"Even if it's heavy, it was something we had to do, right? Mrs. Hawkins, you're smart and brave. I love your wisdom and courage."
Charlotte felt warm inside.
She gently hugged his waist and murmured, "Not as brave as you! You have braved the snow to seek out the astrologer high in the mountain for me."
As she spoke, she nuzzled her head against his chest.
"Frederick, I've never said it, and you don't know how grateful I am to you!"
Grateful for your bravery to dig into the past for me, which gave us a chance to love each other again.
Frederick kissed her forehead, silently comforting her.
In this warm moment, the door burst open, and someone ran in. It was Lily.
Lily saw them hugging and was stunned, then she shouted, "Is it true that Tina was arrested?"
Charlotte gently pushed Frederick away.
Even as a couple, she was still a bit shy.
Frederick glanced at Bradley who followed in. "Bradley, control your wife. What if she had seen me and Charlotte making love just now?"
Bradley rubbed his nose.
Making love in an F1 race VIP room?
Lily was anxious. "Hurry up. Is it true that Tina was arrested?"
Charlotte smiled slightly.
She said gently, "Yes, she was arrested! She committed serious crimes; she probably won't survive."
Lily was stunned.
For a long time, her eyes were hot, and she felt indescribable emotions.
Charlotte smiled. "Isn't it a good thing? She got her punishment; she can't harm us anymore."
Lily nodded vigorously.
Charlotte wanted to say more, but her phone rang.
She looked at it, and it was Landon's father calling.
