Chapter 253 I Really Want to Make You Cry Right Here
Charlotte never thought in a million years that Frederick would plant one on her in front of everyone, especially at an event like this.
Her eyes went wide.
Frederick's did too. He leaned in and whispered, "Close your eyes!"
Then he kissed her, full-on, no holding back.
Charlotte's body shook. "Frederick, everyone's staring!"
He had that look in his eyes. "Let 'em stare!"
The whole place went dead silent.
It was one heck of a kiss!
At the company's anniversary bash, Frederick laid a serious smooch on his wife. Who could still say he was a monk and not into women?
The employees were probably thinking, 'Get this guy a bed, stat.'
The Hawkins family just watched.
Laura, tears in her eyes, gently covered little Lola's eyes.
Patrick sipped his wine, thinking, 'Frederick, what a show-off!'
Frederick didn't seem like he wanted to stop anytime soon.
Charlotte didn't want to lose it in front of everyone. She fiddled with his shirt buttons and whispered, "If you keep this up, we'll be all over the news tomorrow. How about we save it for home?"
Frederick chuckled and let her go.
Their relationship had just leveled up, and he was in a great mood. While mingling, he kept sneaking glances at Charlotte, his eyes full of fire, making the other women weak in the knees. Charlotte felt it too, big time!
Just when things were heating up, Cherie came over and whispered something.
Frederick frowned.
He handed his wine glass to Cherie and said, "I'll go check it out!"
And he was off.
Charlotte was chatting with others but saw him leave out of the corner of her eye. She walked over to Cherie. "Where'd he go?"
Cherie hesitated but spilled the beans. "It's Miss Mitchell! She’s threatening to jump from the Vertex Innovations Group hotel if Mr. Hawkins doesn't show up! On a day like today, if something really happened, it would be a PR nightmare for Vertex Innovations Group."
Charlotte nodded.
She got it. Frederick and Katherine had history, and if something went down, the press would have a field day.
She wasn't totally heartless.
But she and Frederick were starting fresh, and he had told her that from now on, it was just her; she believed him.
So Charlotte didn't plan to go over, not just out of trust but also because she was confident she could keep Frederick's attention on her.
She was about to get back to mingling.
Her secretary came over. "Ms. Russell, your phone!"
Frederick was in an office on the top floor, meeting with Katherine.
There were a couple of staff members hanging around too.
Katherine had gone all out tonight, rocking a fiery red dress. But her wild lifestyle had left her super skinny, and the dress just made her look kinda scary.
Frederick was chilling behind the desk. Even in his 30s, he was still a total heartthrob.
Katherine couldn't take her eyes off him.
She thought about that PR pic, him all smiles with his wife and kid.
And he had even kissed Charlotte in front of everyone!
Katherine's tears messed up her eyeliner as she sobbed. "Frederick, I can't believe you've forgotten our epic past. I don't buy that you love Charlotte!"
Frederick lit up a cigarette.
Even just holding it, he looked like a work of art.
He stared at Katherine, stone-faced. "If you hadn't threatened to jump from the Vertex Innovations Group, I wouldn't be here! Katherine, I don't want to rehash our past. Just stop dragging me into your mess!"
Katherine's lips quivered. "Wouldn't you care if I jump?"
She looked crazed. "You would! You love me!"
Frederick's voice was ice-cold. "Katherine, I've done all I can for you! If you jump, security will have your body in a dark alley in a minute, waiting for your family to ID it. The blood? Cleaned up in no time."
He said it so calmly.
There wasn't a hint of nostalgia in his eyes!
Frederick took a slow drag on his cigarette.
Right then, he knew clearer than ever. He liked girls like Charlotte, who wouldn't hurt themselves or others over love or a guy.
Even when she drove him nuts, he couldn't help but chase after her.
In his 30s, he was sure Charlotte was the one he wanted to spend his life with.
Katherine laughed.
Her voice softened. "Frederick, everything about you still pulls me in! What do I do? I don't want to lose you! Soon, Charlotte will come, and she'll see us together. Think that'll mess with her head? Will she still snuggle up to you, letting you kiss her?"
Frederick stayed put, his face a bit tense.
Just then, the office door swung open, and there stood Charlotte.
Katherine laughed even harder. "Charlotte, fancy seeing you here!"
Charlotte walked in slowly.
She got up close to Katherine and said calmly, "Yeah, we meet again! What's the point of calling me to come here?"
Katherine looked visibly stunned.
Katherine tilted her chin up a bit and said, "I just wanted to let you know that Frederick will never ignore me! We met, and I don't believe you don't feel anything about it!"
Charlotte lowered her eyes and gave a faint smile. "If he's mine, he'll think of me no matter where he is. If he's not, even if you're in Novaria, he'll go find you."
Katherine was taken aback.
She hadn't expected Charlotte to be so chill.
Charlotte looked at Frederick and spoke softly, "Katherine, you always think your relationship was unforgettable! But what Frederick and I have been through has long replaced your past! He may not always be mine, but he certainly no longer belongs to you!"
Katherine's face went pale.
She had lost, completely lost. No one cared about her presence.
Frederick had the staff take her away. Once the office was quiet, he slowly walked out from behind the desk and came to Charlotte's side.
He gently embraced her, his voice trembling slightly. "Mrs. Hawkins, thank you!"
Charlotte leaned on his shoulder.
This hug was so tender that neither of them wanted to do anything else.
After a long while, she whispered, "Even if I don't believe in your feelings for me, I believe in your love for Lola. That's something Katherine can never compare to."
Her face was warm against his neck.
Frederick had always been perfect and charming, attracting women.
But Charlotte had never told him that she actually liked him best as Lola's dad. She whispered in his ear, "We are not married yet, Frederick. Do you feel like we're having an affair?"
Frederick felt his blood heat up. He never knew Charlotte could tease him like this.
A man's instinct quickly made him respond. He pressed her body against his, his voice hoarse. "Then let's not go home. How about staying at the hotel?"
Charlotte's body was soft. "I want to go home. I want to do it in your bed."
Frederick lightly nibbled the tender skin behind her ear, flirting with her, "Where did you learn this? Besides me, which other man could teach you this?"
He couldn't help himself and lifted her onto the wide office desk.
Leaning in, he kissed her.
Frederick was deeply aroused, and Charlotte was very cooperative, making the atmosphere perfect. After a long kiss, he rested his head on her shoulder, breathing lightly. "I really want to make you cry right here."
Charlotte blushed and her heart raced.
After a long time of tenderness, she helped him straighten his shirt and buttoned it up. Her slender fingers lingered there, unmoving.
Frederick looked at her intently for a long time, then gently held her fingertips, his voice hoarse. "Charlotte, you're finally back!"
For the rest of the party, Frederick and Charlotte were pretty much MIA; they holed up in his office, just talking and catching up.
When the party wrapped up, he didn't call for the driver.
They'd been apart for too long, and he wanted every second with her, even the ride home.
Lola was all snug in her car seat.
She must've been wiped out because she conked out pretty quick.
Frederick pulled the car over at a corner. He turned to look at Charlotte in the back seat and said softly, "Come up front."
Charlotte hesitated. She was in an evening gown!
Frederick's gaze was intense, almost melting her with its heat. Seeing her hesitate, he said again, "Give me your hand!"
Charlotte extended her hand, and he gently pulled her to sit beside him.
Frederick fastened her seatbelt, his long fingers brushing against her, making Charlotte shiver slightly. He looked up at her and smiled. "Are you that sensitive?"
Charlotte turned her face away, wanting to deny it but also not wanting to.
The night grew deeper.
The sleek black car slowly drove into the villa and finally stopped in the parking lot. Frederick unbuckled his seatbelt and whispered, "I'll put Lola to bed. You wait for me in the master bedroom, okay?"
Charlotte's body felt a bit weak.
Frederick leaned in, kissing her deeply for a while, then gently brushed her delicate cheek with his fingers. "You go up first!"
Charlotte went upstairs and pushed open the master bedroom door.
The moment she opened the door, she was a bit surprised.
The entire room was filled with red roses, and there were many gift boxes, all seemingly for her.
Women love being pampered, and Charlotte was no exception.
She took off her high heels and sat on the white wool carpet, starting to open the gifts, most of which were jewelry. There were also seasonal dresses from luxury brands, and even high heels, all very delicate, accentuating the lines of her calves.
Having been with him for a long time, she naturally knew his thoughts, and couldn't help but blush.
The bedroom door opened.
Frederick appeared at the door, still in his elegant black evening suit, his features looking even more defined and handsome under the light.
He gently closed the door, walked over, and hugged her slender waist from behind. "Do you like it?"
Charlotte, of course, liked it.
She gently turned around and took the initiative to hug his neck and kiss him. In the midst of their passionate kiss, she whispered, "I like it! And, I like you more!"
He laughed lowly, his breath hot against her ear. "Charlotte, we haven't done it in three years!"
