Chapter 860 A Chance Encounter with Natalie
After a chaotic period, Nancy made it through the critical phase. Andrew used his connections to secure the best VIP room for her.
The floor had only four rooms, making it very quiet and suitable for recovery.
Andrew visited Nancy, leaning on his cane as he looked around. "This place is perfect! Stay here until you're fully recovered. The staff will take care of everything, and there's even a room for the older kid. Grant, you can handle your work here too."
It was indeed the best arrangement.
Grant couldn't refuse. He sincerely thanked Andrew.
Andrew turned to Chloe. "Everything's settled here. Let's go see Cameron. He's probably been waiting for us."
Chloe nodded obediently.
She liked Benjamin and left her phone number and address, inviting him to visit The Devereux Mansion during his break.
Benjamin looked at Grant, hesitant to agree.
Grant patted his head. "Go ahead, you can go."
Benjamin, who liked Chloe, nodded happily.
As Andrew and Chloe left, Andrew glanced back at them one last time before heading out.
Outside, he asked Chloe, "Any regrets? He's happy now."
Chloe held his arm, pausing for a moment. "Not really regrets. It just wasn't meant to be. He's doing well, and with Nancy and the kid, he'll be fine. Benjamin is great too. Their home is lively now."
Andrew chuckled. "What's so great about a lively home? It's just chaos every day! Look at our place, kids crawling everywhere. If Frederick's kids came over too, I wouldn't have any space to walk."
Chloe gave him a sidelong glance. "You should be grateful!"
Andrew held her hand.
How could he not be grateful? He had spent most of his life with her, and he was very content.
In the hospital room, only the four of them remained.
Grant knelt by the bed, gently brushing Nancy's hair from her forehead. "You've been through a lot."
Nancy's face was a bit pale, but she smiled. "Grant, bring the baby over. I want to see him."
Grant went to get Lance.
Lance was small and soft, looking a bit like a tiny monkey.
But Benjamin was very fond of him, always wanting to look at him.
When Nancy fed Lance, Benjamin blushed and ran to the next room.
The room grew quieter. Nancy looked down at Lance.
She spoke to Grant. "We owe a big favor. We'll have to repay it someday."
Grant replied, "You're still in the hospital! No matter how big the favor, it's one we'll have to owe for now."
He looked at her, and she looked back.
Grant leaned in and kissed her. He didn't say anything, but she could read the fear and worry in his eyes. He had been terrified when she was bleeding, afraid something might happen to her.
Nancy moved her head closer to his arm, whispering, "I'm fine now, Grant. Nothing will happen in the hospital."
Grant didn't argue. He knew that if Andrew hadn't been there today, the outcome might have been different. Childbirth was unpredictable.
After Nancy finished feeding Lance, she was tired and wanted to sleep.
Grant gently placed Lance down. "Hold on a bit longer. The nanny will be here soon with some nutritious food. Drink it before you sleep to replenish your strength."
Nancy nodded.
The couple fell silent for a moment.
They had no parents to rely on, so they had to plan everything themselves.
Andrew's help today was invaluable, making Grant realize he needed to rebuild his life. He had a family to take care of.
Just then, Benjamin called out softly, "He pooped."
The room filled with an indescribable smell.
Grant laughed and told Nancy, "Close your eyes and rest. I'll change his diaper."
He had learned how to do it and was quite skilled.
Nancy watched quietly, her expression soft.
Benjamin ran over to pour her some water and carefully fed it to her. His eyes were wide with wonder, probably because Nancy had just had a baby.
Benjamin found it fascinating.
The four of them, in the quiet room, felt very warm and cozy.
The happiness they longed for was perhaps this simple: being together, having a place to live, a good job, and raising their children well.
A few days later, Grant ran into Natalie at the hospital.
She was there to visit Cameron's wife, not alone, holding Haven's hand.
With the Fireworks Festival approaching, Haven was dressed festively in a bright pink coat, little boots, and her curly hair. Her skin looked great.
Haven saw Grant first and called out, "Daddy!"
Grant was momentarily stunned, then squatted down, letting Haven run into his arms and kiss his cheek.
He looked up at Natalie, worried she might feel uncomfortable, but her expression was gentle.
Natalie had probably heard about Nancy having a baby.
She walked over and asked softly, "How is she doing?"
Grant stood up, holding Haven. His gaze at Natalie was still unsettled but deeply hidden.
He nodded. "She's much better these past few days. Please thank your father for me again."
Natalie smiled. "He hates being thanked repeatedly. He says it never ends."
Grant laughed too.
They stood in the hospital corridor, chatting like old friends, as if all the past had blown away with the wind.
After all, once someone else occupies your heart, no matter how intense the past was, it becomes a fleeting memory.
When they reunited, they had hurt each other with cold indifference, but there was still affection.
Letting go brings peace.
Natalie patted Haven. "She misses you. Take her for half a day. I'll pick her up in the evening. Don't worry, I told her not to disturb Nancy. She's very well-behaved."
Grant kissed Haven.
He had missed her. He had been busy with work in Copenhegan and hadn't seen her much. It was rare that Haven wasn't upset with him.
He left with Haven.
Natalie stayed where she was. After a while, her phone rang. It was Clayton.
Despite the time that had passed, Clayton still hadn't married Natalie.
He was just Haven and Chance's father, with the right to care for them but no other rights.
He asked directly, "We're out of Chance's formula. Is there any left at home? If not, I'll go buy a box."
Natalie replied softly, "There are two cans in the leftmost cabinet in the kitchen."
Clayton said, "Got it."
But he didn't hang up. After a pause, he asked, "Are you back in Copenhegan?"
Natalie guessed his thoughts but didn't explain. She didn't need to.
Grant had a son now, and Clayton was still hung up on the past. Their falling out back then was because of a misunderstanding over a hug...
Thinking of that, Natalie felt annoyed with him. "Where I go is my business. I don't need to report to you."
Clayton paused. "Right, you don't need to report. I was just asking."
He added, "I have to go make Chance's formula now."
