Chapter 134: Frederick, One Life for Another

Ethan stood firm, his muscles tense.

His eyes were intense. "I'm not crazy!"

He looked at her, saying slowly, "I've come to my senses! Charlotte, let's start over. This time, I'll treat you right!"

Her past with Frederick bothered him, but he decided to let it go.

Charlotte was shocked.

Before she could react, Ethan was holding her face, trying to kiss her.

She turned away.

His lips brushed her cheek, leaving a trace of wetness.

Charlotte pushed him away hard.

Breathing heavily, she glared at him, wanting to make it clear she didn't want his investment or his compensation.

They didn't need any connection.

But just as she was about to speak, she froze.

Not far away, Frederick stood, a cigarette smoldering between his fingers. His eyes were cold and detached, like he was watching a meaningless drama.

Charlotte's legs felt weak.

She leaned against the wall to keep from collapsing.

Ethan saw Frederick too.

He spoke hoarsely, "Charlotte, just say the word and I'll break off the engagement right now. I'll marry you, we'll have kids."

His offer was tempting, but it wasn't what Charlotte wanted.

The person she really wanted was looking at her with cold eyes.

She looked at Frederick helplessly.

Ethan felt a chill.

Maybe he had some hope before, but now he knew he had lost Charlotte forever.

In their tangled mess, he was just an outsider.

Charlotte's eyes were only for Frederick, and Ethan had lost completely.

Ethan left, and as he passed Frederick, he heard him speak coldly.

"Ethan, don't touch my woman!"

Ethan paused. He had known Frederick for a long time, but this was the first time he saw Frederick show possessiveness. Usually, he was indifferent to everything, especially women.

Maybe he was wrong. Someday, Frederick might be willing to marry because of Charlotte.

Charlotte got into Frederick's car.

She could smell the alcohol on him, guessing tonight was probably his celebration party, but he had run into this situation.

Anyway, Charlotte didn't want to argue with him.

She said softly, "The music studio was raising funds, and he had someone sign a letter of intent with us. I didn't know it was him beforehand."

Frederick ignored her.

He lit a cigarette, resting his hand on the car window as he smoked slowly.

After finishing a cigarette, he turned to look at her. "Why are you explaining to me? Aren't we just a physical relationship?"

Charlotte's eyes reddened, and she lowered her head without speaking.

Frederick's temper was unpredictable, and she had learned that early on. Confronting him now would do no good.

Frederick stared at her for a long time.

He suddenly said, "I want to go to your place!"

Charlotte was startled.

She understood his meaning. He wanted to make love in her apartment, which felt like a power move.

Charlotte gently turned her head, looking out the window.

After a moment, she softly said, "Okay."

Frederick lightly pressed the gas pedal.

He was probably angry, driving very fast, and soon they arrived at Charlotte's apartment.

Charlotte led him inside, feeling somewhat humiliated.

"What do you want to drink?"

She had just asked when he pressed her onto the sofa.

Charlotte's golden hair spread out on the light-colored fabric, creating a strong visual impact. Moreover, this was her place, which was quite a stimulus for Frederick.

He was not gentle.

After one round, Charlotte wanted to rest, but he was insatiable. "Continue!"

Charlotte's eyes were wet, enduring his anger.

She didn't know how long it had been when her phone rang.

Her hands were pinned down, unable to reach, but after the phone rang repeatedly, Frederick picked it up and glanced at it.

It was Ethan calling.

He put it on speaker and continued what he was doing.

"Charlotte!" Ethan spoke on the other side of phone.

Frederick's intense gaze held Charlotte captive. She bit her lip, her small nose reddening.

He had completely broken her.

The sounds on the other end of the phone left Ethan in a daze, his body frozen with shock and disbelief.

Later, his phone shattered into pieces.

Late at night, Charlotte wrapped herself in a blanket, sitting in a daze.

Frederick, fully dressed, sat opposite her, lighting a cigarette.

"I'll send you to Novaria for further studies," he said. "I'll fly over every two weeks to be with you. I'll also invest in your music studio and hire professionals to manage it."

Charlotte slowly raised her eyes.

Under the light, her face was pale, and her eyes were slightly red.

She was terrified of his toughness.

The ache in her body was nothing compared to the weariness in her heart.

Once every two weeks, what was she if not a mistress?

She asked softly, "Frederick, am I just your kept woman? Everything revolves around your will. When you're unhappy, you send me abroad."

Her questioning didn't affect Frederick's decision.

He wouldn't allow her to meet with Ethan again like tonight.

He stubbed out the cigarette. "It doesn't matter! What matters is, you have to leave Syeattel."

Charlotte laughed.

She and Ethan were long over; they had just met by chance.

She had never given Ethan any hope, not only because she no longer loved him but also for Chloe's sake. She wanted Chloe to be happy.

But how did Frederick treat her?

He was ambiguous with Katherine, yet he couldn't tolerate Charlotte's past.

She had bowed to him, letting him having his way with her, and now he was pulling up his pants and sending her away as a mistress.

Fuck Frederick!

She didn't want it anymore!

She didn't want anything anymore!

Charlotte threw off the blanket, not caring about her disheveled state, and began to dress slowly.

Once she was dressed, she calmly said, "I'm not leaving!"

Frederick, of course, had already planned for this.

He sneered, "Did you forget your father's lawsuit is still pending?"

He pulled a document from his pocket and threw it to Charlotte.

Charlotte glanced at it, her face turning pale.

It was a receipt signed by her father, enough to ruin him completely.

Frederick said expressionlessly, "This little thing took quite a bit of effort! Charlotte, once it reaches the authorities, what do you think will happen? Can your father still live well?"

Charlotte trembled with anger.

She had never thought Frederick would use this to threaten her.

She laughed softly.

When she looked up, she gritted her teeth. "Frederick, I've slept with you for so long, there should be some feelings, right? Frederick, as long as my father spends a day in jail, I'll immediately go sleep with Ethan. Can Chloe still live well then? My father's life is a life, and so is Chloe's!"

As she spoke, her heart ached.

But she still endured the pain and said, "Frederick, one life for another!"
