Chapter 878 What Gift is Appropriate When Breaking Up with a Woman?
Bruce didn't like the vibe or the food here.
But he was willing to listen to Freya talk about her dreams. He found it interesting because he didn't know any women like her. Most women around him were like Sienna—beautiful and elegant.
He couldn't imagine Sienna ever wanting to come to a place like this for breakfast. Even if she did, it would probably be her last time.
After a while, Bruce frowned slightly.
He realized he had been daydreaming, thinking about his ex-girlfriend. Their cohabitation had become dull, and they had broken up... or rather, he had found someone new.
Freya was still talking, but Bruce's body was honest. He gently interrupted her, "Hey, how about we go somewhere else for breakfast? I know a place that's pretty good."
Freya looked at him in surprise.
After a moment, she repeated, "Somewhere else? Bruce, you don't like it here?"
Bruce was patient with her. "It's not that I don't like it. I just think the wait is a bit long. I know a breakfast place that's nice, and the coffee is great."
Freya nodded.
Just then, the waiter brought their breakfast, a tray full of food.
Not wanting to waste it, Freya took a bite of a fried dough stick and found it delicious. She said, "Let's get the rest to go. Bruce, you can have it as an afternoon snack."
Bruce forced a smile.
In truth, a busy man like him wasn't used to having afternoon snacks.
Even if he did, it would be during a business meeting, and he certainly wouldn't eat fried dough sticks.
But he didn't want to hurt her feelings.
He found Freya straightforward and charming. She was different from the women he had dated before. If he married her, life at home might not be boring.
While waiting for the food to be packed, Freya smiled to keep him from getting impatient.
Bruce said directly, "I'll wait for you in the car."
Freya visibly relaxed.
After Bruce left, a familiar waiter came over and whispered, "Where did you find such a rich guy? Look at his outfit, he's definitely loaded... Freya, is he married?"
Freya's face blushed. "He's single. We're in a relationship, not interfering with any family."
The waiter didn't believe her but just smiled.
Feeling a bit wronged, Freya took the packed breakfast and got into Bruce's car without saying a word. Bruce glanced at her and started the car. "What's wrong?"
His tone was gentle, but for some reason, Freya felt a bit distant.
She bit her lip and thought for a moment before saying, "Mr. Taylor, do you think we're not a good match?"
Bruce's expression remained calm. After driving for about five minutes, he finally said, "What, you don't want to be with me?"
He didn't seem like he was trying to comfort her.
Freya thought for a long time and then said, "I do!"
Bruce drove with one hand and held her hand with the other.
In his mind, dating was supposed to be sweet, but he ended up holding a greasy bag of fried dough sticks. The experience wasn't pleasant.
He realized that not all women were like Sienna, who always maintained a perfect image. Some unmarried women could be more down-to-earth.
In the end, they didn't get to eat breakfast because the Taylor Group's breakfast meeting was about to start.
He had to drop Freya off at her place and drive to the office.
When he got out of the car, he noticed the greasy bag of breakfast on the passenger seat.
Someone knocked on the car window. He rolled it down to see his secretary, Anna Jenkins.
Anna was young and pretty, dressed in a stylish secretary outfit, with a sweet smile. "Mr. Taylor, the breakfast meeting is about to start!"
Bruce pointed to the passenger seat. "Take care of that."
Anna looked at the breakfast and was momentarily stunned. Then she said naturally, "Did Miss Hawkins have breakfast with you today?"
Bruce got out of the car, his voice indifferent. "We broke up."
Anna was silent, thinking, "Whose breakfast is this then?"
So Bruce had a new girlfriend!
But Bruce, with a new girlfriend, seemed distracted in the elevator, his mood not great.
He stared at the red numbers above the elevator and suddenly asked, "Anna, what's a suitable gift for breaking up with a woman?"
Anna remained sweet and professional. "Based on Mr. Taylor's past experiences and Miss Hawkins' status, a jewelry set worth around five million dollars would be appropriate. Anything less might not be enough."
She added, "Mr. Taylor, would you like me to handle it for you?"
Bruce's expression was blank. "No, I'll take care of it myself."
Anna thought Bruce's new girlfriend wasn't doing well. Otherwise, why did Bruce seem so distracted? He didn't look like he was in love at all.
She remembered how two years ago, when Bruce first started dating Sienna, he was very concerned about his image and full of energy.
Bruce was a bit distracted during the meeting.
He was thinking about what to give Sienna as a breakup gift. Should it be rubies, sapphires, or just diamonds?
As a result, the meeting's quality suffered, and they didn't reach any conclusions all day.
After work, his father, Lonnie Taylor, came to talk to him, subtly asking about his personal life. "I heard you've been dating Sienna from the Hawkins family for a long time. Why haven't you brought her to meet your grandfather?"
Bruce sat on the armrest of the sofa, his long legs stretched out.
He replied calmly, "We broke up."
Lonnie was speechless. "You dated for so long and then broke up? Weren't you living together?"
Bruce asked, "Dad, how did you know?"
Lonnie's tone was not friendly. "Your mother told me! She seemed quite happy about it."
Gossip traveled fast in high society circles, so it wasn't surprising.
Bruce then said something that shocked Lonnie. "I have a new girlfriend. The kind I want to marry."
Lonnie perked up. "What kind of person? Let me meet her first before introducing her to your grandfather."
Bruce wasn't stupid. He embellished Freya's background a bit. "We met at a club."
"A one-night stand?"
Bruce frowned. "Dad, what are you thinking? She's a staff member at the club."
He revealed Freya's true identity step by step.
Lonnie was almost having a fit. "You're telling me you broke up with Sienna to marry a waitress?"
Bruce remained calm. "She has dreams too. She wants to open a store."
Lonnie paced back and forth in anger. "She's using your money to start a business, right? Are you out of your mind? You're usually so shrewd, but you can't see this? Are you two even on the same level? How will you live together?"
"Tell me, what common ground do you have? How will you grow together? How will you raise your kids? The gap between you two is too big!"
Bruce lightly patted his pants. "I've already decided."
Lonnie pointed at him. "Don't expect your mother and me to agree! And don't even think about bringing her home!"
