Chapter 528 Johnny, Find Someone to Marry!

In the dead of night, Johnny's fingers, stained crimson, froze mid-air.

His eyes were locked on Lola, unable to tear himself away.

There she was, standing under the moonlight in a black dress, her long hair dancing in the breeze, her face softly illuminated by the darkness.

He remembered all those times he held her face, kissing her deeply while they were wrapped up in each other.

But now, all he could do was watch from a distance.

"Lola," he called out, his voice tinged with longing.

Lola saw him too. She glanced at him for a couple of seconds, then turned and walked off the terrace.

Johnny's eyes dimmed as he watched her leave, as if her presence still lingered.

Lola went back to the living room, feeling restless. She plopped down on the sofa and picked up a magazine, but couldn't focus.

There was a knock at the door.

She looked up to see Gavin standing there with a slight smile. "Can I come in?"

Lola patted the seat next to her.

Gavin walked in slowly, sat down, and pulled out a check for 20 billion dollars from his pocket.

He slid it over to Lola.

Lola was taken aback for a moment before she snapped out of it. "Gavin, I already gave it back to him! You should use it!"

She smiled lightly. "No need to return it! Think of it as a wedding gift from me to you and Molly!"

Gavin and Molly were getting married.

To avoid stirring up trouble in Copenhagen, they decided to have the wedding in Syeattel.

Gavin sighed. "Lola, this gift is too much!"

Lola gently patted his head. "Gavin, it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing! It's not too much."

Only then did Gavin accept it. He nodded towards the door. "He's outside, isn't he?"

Lola didn't say anything.

Gavin continued, "I see Frederick hasn't moved on. He doesn't talk about it, but he's still hung up on Johnny."

Lola knew, but she didn't want to get involved with anything related to Johnny.

Since she didn't respond, Gavin dropped the subject.

He just thought it was a shame. He still remembered the day Lola gave him the check; she was glowing. Their relationship seemed so strong back then. How did it fall apart so quickly?

Gavin went downstairs.

Charlotte came over with a bowl of porridge for Lola.

Lola sipped it slowly.

Charlotte, smoothing Lola's long hair, hesitated before saying, "There's a guy your dad thinks is suitable. He asked me to see if you'd like to meet him. His name is Kevin."

She fully expected Lola to refuse. Lola had been hung up on Johnny since she was a kid. But, to her surprise, Lola agreed.

She looked at the porridge and said softly, "Let's meet him! Maybe I'll like him!"

Charlotte hesitated.

Lola finished the porridge slowly. Later, lying in bed, she thought silently, 'Why did I agree? Maybe I've given up.'

The next afternoon, under their parents' arrangement, Lola met Kevin. But she didn't feel much, so she turned him down.

As she walked out of the restaurant, Kevin was still persistent, offering her a ride.

Lola tossed her briefcase into her car and smiled faintly. "I drove. I need to go to the courthouse to meet someone."

He knew Lola wasn't interested.

He didn't push it, gracefully opening the car door for her. "Let's have coffee sometime."

Lola smiled faintly and nodded.

She got in her car, started it up, and drove away slowly.

At the restaurant, Kevin's parents were really taken with Lola. They kept nudging Frederick to talk to Lola again. "Frederick, Kevin grew up right under your nose. Just say some nice things about him. Feelings can grow over time! I promise Lola won't have any complaints in our family; Kevin will treat her like a princess!"

Frederick took a sip of water and smiled. "You're too kind! Marriage is a big deal; the kids should decide for themselves. If I make the decision for them, it’s fine if they’re happy. But if not, wouldn’t they blame us?"

He smoothly changed the subject with a few words.

Kevin's parents had no choice but to drop it.

After the socializing wrapped up, Frederick went to get the car and bumped into Johnny around the corner.

In just half a month, Johnny had lost a lot of weight, looked darker, and seemed sickly.

Frederick felt a pang of sadness. He nodded after a long pause and was about to walk past when Johnny called out, "Don’t marry Lola off to someone else."

Those words hit Frederick hard.

He knew Johnny liked Lola, but what could he do?

Things had come to this!

Frederick stopped and said softly, "Johnny, do you know that even during the 8 years you were gone, Lola never agreed to a blind date? We always thought she’d stay single for life!"

After saying that, he hurried away, afraid that if he stayed a second longer, he’d soften.

Johnny stood there, stunned. Just then, Charlotte came out, her eyes welling up as soon as she saw him.

Even though the two kids had fought and even gotten physical, this was still the child she had raised. Resentment aside, it was impossible for her to be truly heartless. Charlotte called out, "Johnny."

Johnny stood solemnly. "Aunt."

Charlotte stepped forward, touching his sleeve and his back.

Her voice choked slightly. "Does it still hurt?"

Johnny shook his head.

Charlotte looked at his thin clothes. "Johnny, why don’t you wear more clothes?"

"I'm not cold."

Charlotte felt he had become much more silent and changed a lot compared to before. She held his arm tightly. "Come home and see Frederick sometime. He’s getting old and sometimes gets a bit irritable, but he still thinks about you. Admit your mistake and come home!"

But Johnny still shook his head. He had said he didn’t want to be Frederick’s son; he wanted to be Lola’s husband. As long as he wasn’t Lola’s husband, he wouldn’t go home.

Charlotte knew his thoughts and felt sad.

She was Lola’s mother, but she was also Johnny’s mother. She persuaded softly, "Johnny, find someone to marry! Lola won’t come back."

Johnny’s face was pale, and he only left a sentence, "I still want to try."

With that, he left.

Charlotte got in the car, still feeling complicated.

Frederick glanced at her and asked softly, "Saw Johnny?"

Charlotte nodded.

Frederick didn’t speak again, driving silently. After a while, Charlotte couldn’t help but say, "He looks very different, seems to have a lot on his mind! I’m afraid something will happen to him."

"What could happen? You should worry about our daughter!"

"If Johnny can’t figure it out, our daughter will be the first to suffer." Charlotte couldn’t help but give him a reproachful look.

Frederick patted Charlotte’s hand. "Let’s just let the kids handle their own matters! We’ve fought and scolded enough!"

Charlotte said softly, "But we can't just let him stay out there with no one to look after him."

"You're too soft on him!"

"And you aren't? You hit him, but who sighs every night?"

Frederick smiled bitterly. What parent wouldn't be heartbroken and worried if their son, whom they raised from childhood, refused to come home? But some things, Johnny had to figure out on his own.

Lola didn't expect to run into Melissa and Travis at the courthouse.

They were getting a divorce.

When Lola walked in, she saw them receiving their divorce certificate.

Travis saw Lola and was quite surprised, but since they were family friends, he nodded. "Lola!"

Lola looked at him, then at Melissa.

She knew very well that the divorce was definitely initiated by Melissa, to be with Johnny. But these things had nothing to do with Lola anymore, so she just nodded lightly and went in to find her client.

Travis's gaze lingered on her back.

Melissa's tone was mocking. "Now that you're divorced, you can finally pursue the woman you like. Happy? She just broke up with Johnny too!"

Travis frowned. "What nonsense are you talking about! Wasn't it you who wanted the divorce?"

Melissa sneered. "Yes, I wanted the divorce! But can you say you don't have feelings for her? If you didn't, why did you marry me back then? Wasn't it because I could play the piano, and because I looked like Lola when I played? You and Johnny both! What do I lack compared to her, that you both treat me as a substitute?"

After four years of marriage, Travis had had enough of her sarcasm. Now, he was finally free.

He had given Melissa a substantial amount of money, enough for her to live comfortably for the rest of her life. Other than that, he had no ties with her. They had no children, and they hadn't even had a marital life.

Travis originally wanted to give her a ride, but he was so irritated that he opened the car door and left directly.

Melissa watched the car leave and cursed angrily on the spot, "Travis, you bastard!"

Travis drove, seeing Melissa's disheveled state in the rearview mirror, he sighed. When he married her, she had a certain charm. He never expected she would turn out like this.

He called his driver to pick her up.

After hanging up, he felt restless, thinking about Melissa's words.

If it weren't for Johnny and he hadn't been married, could he pursue Lola? When he used to visit Frederick's house as a child, he saw Lola playing the piano.

Lola was like a princess. And she also loved to smile, and when she looked at people, she had a sweet smile.

Lola was always out of his reach, like the moon in the sky. But now, he found himself wanting her more than ever.

Travis was in turmoil.

On Monday, Lola drove to the airport.

When she got out to get her luggage, she found Johnny right by the car. He took her luggage down for her.

"I can do it myself!" Lola took the luggage, looked around Johnny. "Didn't you bring an assistant?"

He nodded.

Lola didn't ask further, went to check-in and security.

Johnny had booked the tickets, their seats were next to each other, and it was just the two of them.

The atmosphere became subtle.

Lola lay down, ready to sleep.

Johnny's voice was in her ear. "How was the blind date?"

Lola opened her eyes, saw how close Johnny was, and moved slightly to the side. "It was fine! But Mr. Flores, it seems inappropriate for us to discuss this. If you don't want to talk business, we can stay silent! Also, there's no need to be this close."

Johnny lowered his voice. "You better not succeed in your blind dates; I won't let you be with anyone else."

"Do you have any shame?" Lola gave him a cold look and closed her eyes.

When she closed her eyes, she wasn't as sharp and harsh; she seemed much softer.

It was as if they had never quarreled.

She was obediently by his side.

Johnny curled up, quietly gazing at her sleeping face.

He probably missed her too much. He couldn't help but gently touch her fingertips.

Lola was asleep, and he slowly held her hand, not daring to use force for fear of waking her.

Only at this time could he humbly have a little bit of her.

The plane landed in Copenhagen two hours later.

Johnny had booked a hotel room for Lola, but she didn't stay. She took her luggage and got into the Devereux family car. "I'm staying at the Devereux Mansion."

Johnny grabbed her hand. "Me too."

Lola looked down and smiled faintly. "What a joke! What right do you have to stay there?"

These words stung Johnny's heart.

Yes, apart from the Hawkins Family, he had nothing.

Everything he had from childhood was given by the Hawkins Family. Now that it was taken back, he was just the old Johnny again.

The Devereux Mansion was also a place he often visited.

Now, he couldn't go there as he pleased.

The driver greeted him, unaware of the fallout between him and Lola. "Johnny, aren't you getting in?"

Johnny shook his head bleakly. "No, I'll stay at the hotel."

Lola got in the car.

In the car, Andrew sat in the back seat and glanced at her. "Really fell out with Johnny? He looks quite lost!"

Lola held up in front of her parents. But in front of Andrew, she couldn't hold back anymore. "Andrew!"

Just like when she was a child, whenever she felt wronged, she would go to Andrew first. He was always the most dependable, always able to handle things clearly for her.

Andrew hugged Lola and comforted her. "If this one doesn't work, we'll find another! No point in getting angry, right?"

Lola sniffled. "No more! I'll be single for life!"

Andrew laughed. "Nonsense!"

The driver in front also smiled. "You're so beautiful, there are plenty of people pursuing you! If you were in Copenhagen, who knows how many people would be after you!"

They drove back to the Devereux Mansion.

At the entrance, a taxi was parked, and Johnny got out.

Andrew pretended not to know. "Johnny is so thick-skinned, chasing all the way here. I didn't invite him!"

At this moment, Chloe came out from the garden.

She had received a special order to come and greet him.

Seeing the tall, thin figure standing there, she smiled lightly. "I invited him! He came all this way; let's have a meal together!"

Chloe took the luggage from Johnny's hand. She couldn't help but look at him, noticing he had lost a lot of weight. Her heart was filled with both hate and pity.

"Chloe!" Johnny called her.

Chloe put on a stern face. "I have to say, how could you get into a fight with Lola? Frederick should have given you a beating."

Johnny couldn't help but look at Lola.
