Chapter 18: How to Choose Between Two Women?
Charlotte took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.
She told Chloe, "Stop coming to me. Not everyone is here to cater to your love life."
Chloe, who was used to being pampered, had never faced rejection before.
She needed to understand why Charlotte didn't like her, or she wouldn't give up.
Charlotte felt she couldn't shake her off, so she turned to leave. But the next second, her eyes widened.
Chloe was grabbed from behind, a sack thrown over her head.
"That's her, Ethan's fiancée."
"Grab her, Ethan will pay!"
"There's another woman here; grab her too; she might be valuable."
Charlotte didn't have time to scream before everything went black. She was also thrown into a sack and dragged into a car.
When Charlotte woke up, she was in an abandoned warehouse, tied to a broken chair.
Next to her, Chloe was also tied up, crying and cursing, "Do you know who I am? My brother will put you in jail! Let me go!"
Thomas Walker, annoyed by her noise, slapped her.
"Shut up! Or I'll tear your clothes off."
Chloe cried even louder.
Thomas didn't dare actually harm her because the Hawkins family was not to be messed with, especially that lawyer Frederick.
Thomas threw a phone to Chloe. "Call Ethan, tell him to get $5 million ready! And let him know to come alone, no funny business or we won't hold back!"
Chloe, terrified, took the phone and tearfully dialed Ethan's number.
At the Hawkins Mansion, the atmosphere was tense. Chloe had been kidnapped, and Laura was crying with worry.
Frederick, his father Patrick Hawkins, and Ethan were waiting anxiously for the call.
Patrick was displeased. Those bastards had kidnapped Chloe because of Ethan; he needed an explanation.
After about two hours, Chloe's call finally came through. She was sobbing uncontrollably but managed to relay Thomas's demands.
Ethan gently comforted her. Chloe finally stopped crying, feeling a bit reassured.
She knew Ethan loved her and wouldn't let her get hurt.
Just as the conversation was wrapping up, a woman's trembling voice came through. "Don't touch me, don't touch me!"
Ethan's hand holding the phone trembled; he knew that voice all too well.
It was Charlotte!
How was she with Chloe?
The thought of those dirty hands possibly touching her made him want to kill them!
But when he looked up and met Frederick's deep eyes, he suddenly became clear-headed.
Frederick was so shrewd; if he showed any unusual behavior, all his efforts to get close to the Hawkins family would be wasted.
Ethan knew he had to stay calm.
He pretended not to know Charlotte and said to the kidnappers, "I'll give you the $5 million, just don't touch my fiancée."
After hanging up, he told Patrick and Laura, "This was my fault. Don't worry, I'll bring Chloe back safely."
Patrick nodded; he still admired Ethan.
Ethan drove off.
Only the Hawkins family remained in the villa.
Laura, slightly relieved, wiped her tears and hesitated. "I think I heard Miss Russell's voice earlier. Frederick, did you hear it?"
