Chapter 858 He Took Nancy and Went to Copenhegan Overnight

With their decision made, they began to prepare.

In the evening, Grant took Benjamin to the school to complete the necessary paperwork.

By the time they returned, it was just in time for dinner.

At the door, they ran into Octavia again.

Benjamin, unaware of the issues between the adults, greeted Octavia politely.

Grant didn't say anything, but Octavia had a strange expression on her face, almost like she was constipated.

When they entered, Nancy was tidying up.

Grant said softly, "I'll take care of it!"

He helped her to the sofa to rest and started packing things himself.

Having grown up facing hardships, he was skilled at doing everything and could do it faster and better than Nancy.

Nancy asked, "Are we giving up the lease?"

Grant chuckled, "Why would we give it up if we're coming back? Let's keep it for six months. We'll return when spring comes. At most, we'll stay another six months after that, and we should be able to buy our own house... Nancy, what kind of house do you want to live in?"

He encouraged her to describe it, and she did.

She said, "I'd still like to live in a small single-family house, even a smaller one would be fine. The main thing is to have a little yard. I want to get Benjamin a puppy, and it would be a nice place for our baby to play when they're born."

Grant agreed but added pragmatically, "Funds might be a bit tight for the next couple of years. We might need you to cover some of the costs initially. I'll pay you back double once my funds come through!"

Nancy didn't respond.

Grant looked at her and smiled, "Why, are you not willing? If you're not, then we'll just have to wait a bit longer and move later!"

Nancy also smiled, "Of course I'm willing!"

How could she not be willing?

The fact that he could speak to her so directly showed that they were already sharing everything... It couldn't be better!

Benjamin was also very happy.

He packed his own little backpack and small suitcase. Inside, his clothes, socks, and underwear were all neatly folded, but he left one of his small pillows behind.

Because he considered this place home.

Leaving a pillow behind in a place filled with love, waiting for him to come back...

The day was busy, so they had a simple dinner, but Benjamin still enjoyed it very much.

Nancy was drinking soup, which Grant had made just for her.

Vegetable and mushroom, very appetizing.

While she sipped her soup, Grant sat on the sofa working on engineering matters with his laptop. Benjamin knelt beside him, wide-eyed and watching...

Grant patted his little head, "You're so young! Watching this already?"

Benjamin said he wanted to learn.

Just as Grant was about to say something, there was a knock at the door.

Grant went over to open it.

To his surprise, standing outside was Octavia, holding a gift. She looked quite embarrassed. "Mr. McCall, you are at home!"

Grant leaned against the door, not letting her in.

He spoke in a calm tone, "What do you need?"

Octavia nervously smoothed her clothes and awkwardly said, "Can I come in? I have something I want to discuss with you and Mrs. McCall."

Grant had a hunch about what it might be and let her in.

As soon as Octavia came in, she mentioned that she had brought a watermelon to cut up, saying that Benjamin loved this particular kind of watermelon.

Although Benjamin was young, he understood that Octavia no longer wanted to stay here and had gone to live with someone else.

He didn't say anything, instead looking up at Grant with a sense of reliance.

Grant placed a reassuring hand on the back of Benjamin's head and said to Octavia, "If you have something to say, just say it. We just finished dinner and aren't hungry."

Nancy continued sipping her soup, not paying any attention to Octavia.

Octavia glanced at Nancy and softly said, "This soup looks really good. It must be Mr. McCall's cooking! Here's the thing, something happened back in my hometown, and I need $100,000 to save someone."

"I asked my current employer for a loan, but he wasn't very willing. I thought, given my history with Mr. McCall and Mrs. McCall—after all, I was the one who took Benjamin to the hospital that night, wasn't I?—surely Mr. McCall and Mrs. McCall wouldn't mind helping out with this amount."

Nancy was speechless.

Before Grant could respond, Nancy spoke up, "Octavia, that's not how it is! Yes, you took Benjamin to the hospital that night, but at that time you were our nanny. Wasn't that part of your duty?"

"Besides, when you left, I gave you an additional $1,000 as a token of our gratitude. I think that amount was sufficient. Now, you have no relationship with us, and suddenly you're asking for a $100,000 loan, using that incident to emotionally blackmail us. That's too much!"

Octavia's face turned awkward.

Unable to borrow the money, she felt she had no other choice and thought Nancy would be easy to manipulate.

Unexpectedly, Nancy humiliated her.

Feeling a bit upset, Octavia wanted to say something but swallowed her words. Then she noticed the luggage and looked surprised, "Mrs. McCall, are you moving? Are you no longer living here?"

Nancy thought for a moment and replied, "Yes, we're moving tomorrow."

"Did you cancel the lease?"

"Yes, we did."

Octavia left awkwardly, but not before glancing back at them with a thoughtful look.

After she left, Grant softly told Benjamin, "Grab your pillow. We're leaving tonight and not coming back."

Benjamin looked confused.

Nancy gently patted his head, "With Octavia around, it's not safe."

Benjamin seemed to understand a little but was very obedient and quickly gathered his things.

Grant packed Nancy's important items and documents, and they left that night.

They called the landlord and the property manager, especially asking the property manager to keep an eye on things.

After the call, Grant turned to Nancy and softly said, "Sorry for the trouble."

Nancy didn't mind, "We were going to leave anyway! Whether it's sooner or later, we have to go! We can't stay and let her blackmail us. I bet she would cause trouble tonight to force us to lend her money. We can't deal with someone like that!"

Grant's expression was complicated.

After a moment, he said, "When we get back from Copenhegan, we'll definitely buy a house with a yard."

He didn't want Benjamin to be sad, but Benjamin, snuggled up to Nancy, felt happy as long as he wasn't left behind. It didn't matter if things were a bit rough.

But Grant couldn't bear to let them suffer.

They drove through the night to Copenhegan, arriving at a small villa by morning.

He had arranged the rental overnight.

The six-month rent was $50,000, a significant expense, but he didn't want Nancy and Benjamin to encounter people like Octavia again.

So, he chose a better place. He and his assistant would stay there, so they didn't need a nanny for now.

When Nancy had the baby, they would go to a postpartum care center.

A few days later, news came from Syeattel that Octavia had been arrested for arson... she might face eight to ten years in prison.

When Grant heard the news, he gently hugged Nancy.

He thought, he had a wonderful wife.

Nancy, raised in comfort, was wise and knew who to trust and who to avoid. She protected herself and Benjamin.

Nancy softly asked, "What's wrong?"

Grant shook his head and then smiled, "I closed a deal! Shall we go look at houses?"

Nancy was surprised.

Grant took her hand and said Copenhegan had great potential. He wanted to develop his business there for a few years... build up wealth and then decide whether to return to Syeattel.

Nancy thought for a moment and softly said, "As long as I have you and the kids, anywhere is home."
