Chapter 195 Charlotte, I Miss You So Much
They left, and a guy walked out of the men's restroom. It was Frederick. He stared at the sink, feeling a pang of heartache.
'Charlotte drank so much for a project that won't succeed! She used to work hard but never pushed herself like this. Is it because she left me and doesn't want to rely on anyone anymore?' he questioned silently.
Frederick pulled out his phone and called Ryan. "Mr. Sanders? It's Frederick! Yeah, I saw you earlier. Fancy a drink today? Nothing formal, though."
Half an hour later, Ryan showed up in another private room. He knew about Frederick and Charlotte's past, so he was polite, even though Charlotte's project didn't pan out today.
As soon as they sat down, Frederick got straight to the point. "Mr. Sanders, can you help with Charlotte's project?"
Ryan found it amusing and laughed. "Frederick, you never act on impulse. Helping an old flame? Since you asked, I'll be honest. I think highly of Miss Russell; she's got a good personality and works well. But I'm not sure about Mr. Nelson's son. He's too flashy, parties a lot, and hangs with a mixed crowd—it's chaotic."
He offered Frederick a drink. Frederick downed it in one gulp and smiled. "Mr. Nelson's son might be young and playful, but he knows cars! He's a two-season F4 champion. He might not be good at other businesses, but Brian can succeed in this one. Plus, the music studio's clientele is high-end. It's easy to market mid-to-high-end cars there."
Ryan was still hesitant. Frederick smiled. "How about this, Mr. Sanders? Take the risk. If there's any loss, I'll cover it entirely. Plus, I'll handle your company's legal matters for free."
This reassured Ryan. He poured Frederick another drink and teased, "Alright, I'll do you this favor. But Frederick, you're deeply in love! I didn't realize you were such a romantic. You've sacrificed a lot."
Frederick gave a bitter smile, downed the drink, and stared at the empty glass. "I broke her heart! By the way, Mr. Sanders, please don't tell her about this."
Ryan smiled and offered him another drink. Frederick hadn't drunk this much in a while. As he walked out, he leaned uncomfortably in the back seat of the car.
The driver asked softly, "Mr. Hawkins, where to?"
Frederick closed his eyes, his face slightly flushed. After a moment, he said, "To the apartment!"
Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of the apartment building. Frederick got out and looked up at the top floor. For the past six months, he had been living in another villa and hardly came here. Whenever he did, he couldn't sleep. Even if he did fall asleep, he dreamt of Charlotte's sad face.
He went upstairs and opened the door. Everything was the same, but the people had changed. The room was cold and empty. The piano was still there, but its original owner was gone.
Frederick took off his coat and walked over slowly. He sat in front of the piano, lifted the lid, and gently played the piece Charlotte liked. He couldn't help but think of that snowy night when Charlotte sat in his arms, listening to him play.
They were so good together back then. How could he have thought he didn't love her? It was only after losing her that he realized he couldn't live without her.
Now that Brian was by her side, he felt angry. He could see that Charlotte treated Brian like a younger brother, probably because she had so few relatives around her!
In the drunken late night, he missed her terribly. As the piano music faded, he couldn't help but call her. She hung up, so he called again until she couldn't stand it and picked up.
Frederick's voice was hoarse. "Charlotte, I miss you so much!"
He didn't wait for her to respond or reject him before hanging up because he realized he was afraid of her rejection, afraid of her saying, "Frederick, we have no relationship anymore! Frederick, we're over! Frederick, stop this. It's meaningless."
