Chapter 432 Fate's a Wild Ride

Andrew quietly helped her swap out her shoes. When he stood up, he couldn't resist giving her belly a gentle touch.

The five-month-old baby inside already had a little kick.

This was a first for Andrew.

When Chloe was pregnant with Gavin, he wasn't around.

"She moved!" Andrew's eyes lit up.

Chloe's lips quivered, and after a long pause, she said, "Of course, the baby moves at five months."

Andrew caught the hint of annoyance.

Yeah, he had messed up.

She had every right to be ticked off.

He softly pleaded, "Stay for a meal! The baby needs the nutrients."

Chloe slowly walked back to the dining table and sat down, pulling a parenting book from her handbag.

Andrew asked, "Why not chill on the couch?"

She replied, "It presses on my lower abdomen."

Andrew headed to the kitchen.

He whipped up a meal with all of Chloe's favorite dishes, and Chloe just stared blankly.

Andrew served her some chicken wings. "Eat up, don't you love these?"

Chloe ate in silence.

After eating, she softly said, "Andrew, you don't have to be so considerate. We're divorced. You gave me enough back then to raise another kid. I don't expect you to be responsible. Don't worry."

Andrew's throat tightened. He asked, "What should I not worry about?"

Chloe felt it was pointless. She put down her fork and said, "I'm leaving!"

Andrew gently pressed her hand.

He was thin, but his grip was strong. "Eat more! There's still a baby in your belly. This isn't enough!"

Chloe didn't want to argue. She ate silently again.

Andrew occasionally served her more food, asking casually, "What are your plans for the future?"

Chloe stirred the food on her plate and smiled lightly.

She looked up at him and said seriously, "Maybe I'll have the baby, and in a year or two, if I meet someone suitable, I'll get married. I want to give Gavin and the baby a complete home, even though it's hard to find!"

Andrew listened, his heart aching.

If he were healthy, he wouldn't be asking her these questions, he wouldn't let her go!

But his condition was complicated. Though he longed to be with her, he didn't dare give her any hope.

So in the end, Andrew forced a smile and nodded.

He said, "Find someone suitable! He doesn't have to be super handsome, but he must be good to you and the kids."

Chloe responded with a light "hmm." But she was on the verge of tears.

At that moment, the doorbell rang. Chloe was startled.

Andrew glanced at her and went to open the door.

Frederick and Nathan stood at the door, both looking unhappy. Especially Frederick.

Frederick wasn't there for Chloe but for Andrew. He stared at Chloe and Andrew; his gaze making Nathan shiver. He had heard people say that Frederick was a tough guy, but he didn't believe it.

After all, besides that wild trip to Copenhegan to confront Andrew, there wasn't much else that was crazy.

But now he believed it.

Frederick didn't step inside. He just said to Chloe, "The car's downstairs. You and Nathan head down first."

Chloe nodded, got up quietly, and walked to the door to change her shoes.

With her big belly, squatting was a hassle, so Frederick helped her out. His tone softened a bit, "Wait for me in the car!" He helped her put on her coat as he spoke.

Nathan tried to lighten the mood, "Mr. Hawkins is really considerate." He supported Chloe and walked quickly.

Frederick closed the door.

He slowly walked in and sat across from Andrew.

Andrew exhaled slowly, "Got a cigarette?"

Frederick hesitated, then pulled out a pack, shook one out, and handed it to Andrew.

This was Andrew's first cigarette in nearly half a year.

His hands shook as he lit it.

Then he softly said, "The test results aren't good, are they?"

Frederick stayed silent, but Andrew already knew.

He took a slow, greedy puff, then decisively put out the cigarette. He looked at Frederick and hoarsely said, "I know fate's a wild ride, but I still can't bear the thought of dying."

He couldn't let go of Chloe, Gavin, and the unborn baby.

He couldn't die.

Frederick's tone was calm, "You definitely can't die!"

Because he still owed Chloe. Whether they ended up together or not, those two kids were his responsibility. It's not just about throwing some money and calling it parenting.

Frederick wasn't a sentimental guy.

After saying this, he left.

Andrew sat alone, looking around, feeling a chill all over.

This place held all his beautiful memories with Chloe.

During those six months, their relationship had been as sweet as it could get. But now, it felt like another lifetime.

The cigarette on the dining table was tempting, but Andrew resisted.

He still wanted to see the baby being born and Gavin getting married and starting a family.

If he recovered, he would try to win her back.

Andrew had run his hands over every piece of furniture here.

Nathan came up. He looked at Andrew and silently followed behind until Andrew asked, "Did she leave?"

Nathan wiped his sweat. He said, "Mr. Hawkins took her away!"

Andrew slowly sat down and softly said, "Nathan, maybe it was a good thing the wedding got ruined that day! With my health, it's better to be divorced. If I got sick while we were in love, Chloe would be so heartbroken. Or if I died, wouldn't she be sad for a lifetime?"

His pessimism made Nathan very sad. Just as he was about to comfort him, Andrew smiled lightly again, "Don't worry; I won't give up!"

He still wanted to see the baby born.
