Chapter 114: Elijah Prepares for DNA
Frederick lifted his chiseled face and gritted his teeth. "Mr. Mitchell."
He glanced at Charlotte.
Her captivated look pleased him, making him even more turned on.
Suggestive noises traveled through the phone. Elijah, having been through this before, got the hint.
He cleared his throat. "Frederick, it's late. I'll let you go."
He hung up.
He missed the child he hadn't met yet. If it was a daughter, she shouldn't end up with someone like Frederick. Frederick was great but too much of a player, who couldn't even wait to hang up before getting involved with a woman!
He smiled bitterly. In this big world, he couldn't even find his child, so why worry about her dating Frederick? Frederick's current girlfriend was Miss Russell, and they seemed a good match.
Frederick tossed his phone aside.
He had a blast all night.
They had made up and spent several indulgent days together. They worked during the day, and at night, apart from eating and bathing, they were all over each other.
Charlotte admitted she was hooked.
Frederick was incredibly handsome and passionate, knowing how to please women. She couldn't resist.
On Saturday night, they went at it several times.
Frederick leaned against the headboard, lighting a cigarette.
Charlotte loved watching him smoke, his cheeks hollowing in a very masculine way.
Frederick's phone rang twice.
He picked it up, still smoking.
Charlotte, applying skincare after a bath, asked softly, "Is something up this late?"
Frederick smiled. "No, it's Mr. Mitchell. He's looking for his lost child. He did a DNA database entry this week. If the child did too, they could match."
Charlotte was momentarily stunned.
The DNA database.
If she entered it, could she find her biological father?
"What are you thinking about?" Frederick patted the spot beside him. When Charlotte came over, he held her and kissed her, his voice husky and sexy. "Do you like the jewelry and clothes that arrived today?"
Charlotte liked them; no woman wouldn't like jewelry.
But even though she didn't know the market, she could tell they were worth at least $2 million. Leaning on his shoulder, she said, "They're too expensive, Frederick. I can't accept them!"
"Don't worry about it!" Frederick gently caressed her, closing his eyes in thought.
He considered giving her the 4,000-square-foot office building in the future. If she liked it, he could also put this apartment in her name. He genuinely liked her and wanted to give her something.
As he thought about it, he felt aroused again.
He whispered in her ear, "Charlotte, one more time."
Ever since Frederick mentioned the DNA topic, Charlotte couldn't stop thinking about it.
She was torn.
She wanted to do it but was afraid of hurting William and Maria.
There was a café downstairs from the music studio, and Charlotte liked the coffee there. Every time she checked on the progress, she would sit there for a while.
In the lazy afternoon sunlight, Charlotte rested her chin in her hand, lost in thought.
A gentle voice spoke. "Miss Russell."
Charlotte looked up, surprised to see Elijah.
She quickly stood up. "Hello, Mr. Mitchell."
Elijah, in a light-colored casual suit, looked very approachable. He smiled. "You're dating Frederick, why so formal?"
Charlotte pulled out a chair for him, teasing, "You call me Miss Russell too."
"My bad! I'll call you Charlotte from now on then!" Elijah's voice tightened a bit with emotion.
Charlotte handed him the menu, smiling.
Elijah was momentarily dazed by her smile.
Looking at Charlotte, he thought of Victoria from back then. Given her age, he couldn't help but hope she was his long-lost daughter. So he subtly asked, "Have you met Frederick's parents?"
Charlotte was surprised.
Though Elijah was an elder, the question felt abrupt.
She chose a safe answer. "We're still dating, not at the stage of meeting parents yet."
Elijah didn't get the answer he wanted.
Just then, his coffee arrived. He took a sip and smiled. "What do your parents do?"
Charlotte looked at the coffee.
After a pause, she said softly, "My Dad's an auditor. My Mom passed away when I was young. Now I have a stepmother who treats me well."
She gave Elijah a faint smile, but her eyes were moist and slightly red, clearly missing her mother.
Elijah's heart ached.
He whispered, "I'm sorry for that."
Dying so young, she couldn't be Victoria! Victoria was so healthy; she would surely live a long, prosperous life!
After a while, Elijah realized he had lost his composure.
Out of politeness, he wanted to ask Charlotte her mother's name.
But just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.
Elijah glanced at his phone and gave Charlotte an apologetic smile. "Sorry, it's my daughter. She's arrived in the city, and I need to pick her up!"
Charlotte nodded gently.
For some reason, Elijah felt a bit reluctant to go. Knowing it was inappropriate, he still gently touched Charlotte's hair and said warmly, "Next time we meet, I'll treat you to a good meal."
Charlotte smiled faintly.
Her smile was adorable.
Elijah was dazed again.
They really looked alike. If her mother hadn't passed away, he could have asked more.
When Charlotte got home that evening, she told Frederick about meeting Elijah at the café.
Frederick smiled. "Isn't Mr. Mitchell your idol? Did you seize the chance to have coffee with him? Having a chat with him, maybe?"Charlotte said regretfully, "We only talked for a while before he got a call from his daughter and had to go to the airport."
Katherine.
Frederick's body stiffened. He didn't respond to Charlotte and instead stared at the TV.
He had no idea what was on the TV, though.
Recently, Charlotte had been getting along well with him. Frederick was mature and excellent, and she was willing to ask him about many things. At this moment, she wanted to talk to him about the DNA thing, to hear his opinion.
But no matter how much Charlotte talked, Frederick didn't hear a word.
Charlotte called, "Frederick! Frederick."
Frederick snapped back to reality, looking at Charlotte.
Charlotte was beautiful, gentle, and had a good personality. She took care of him meticulously outside of work. Frederick knew that as long as he wanted, he could have her completely. Both physically and emotionally.
He knew Charlotte liked him.
Her eyes could never hide anything!
But he didn't want to be tied down, didn't want to be led by a woman again. He just wanted to enjoy their current relationship.
He thought it was perfect!
