Chapter 622 She Has Never Been This Proactive Before!
If Kingsley hadn't brought it up, Amara, despite caring a lot, probably wouldn't have asked.
Amara leaned against the elevator wall, looking up at him with tears in her eyes.
Kingsley could read her like a book. No matter how much Amara had changed or how capable she had become, he knew she still had feelings for him. Even though he felt a spark, he held back because of the elevator cameras.
He gently touched her lips and whispered, "Did you think I slept with Hannah? Amara, you do care, don't you?"
Amara stayed silent.
Her slender arms slid down and wrapped around him.
Kingsley felt a bit heavy-hearted too. He gently held her, his suit jacket draped over her, and when the elevator doors opened, he whispered in her ear, "Can you stop blaming me?"
Amara looked up at him.
The elevator doors opened and closed. After a long pause, she finally said, "Then don't blame me either! Let's not dig up the past."
Kingsley gazed at her, his blue eyes clear.
Amara always thought he would kiss her, but after a long moment, he just touched his forehead to hers, then gently pulled her out of the elevator.
When they got back to the apartment, their moods had shifted.
Kingsley turned on the lights, filling the room with a warm yellow glow. He looked at Amara and said, "Go change and come out to eat something."
Amara wanted to say she wasn't hungry, but he wrapped his arm around her waist and whispered seductively, "I didn't eat much tonight, so keep me company and eat a little."
With him like this, Amara couldn't resist, her cheeks flushing slightly.
She walked towards the guest room but was pulled back by him. "Go to the master bedroom! I had Rebecca prepare your clothes."
Amara was trapped in his embrace, not daring to look at him, lowering her eyes and trembling slightly. "It's still too fast."
Kingsley's long fingers gently stroked her lips, speaking softly, "Jesse has grown up so much!"
He leaned close to her ear. "Let's have another child?"
He really wanted both a son and a daughter, but even if it was another son, that would be fine too.
Amara's face flushed even more, and she silently pushed him away. "Didn't you say you were making food? I'll go change and take off my makeup."
When she reached the master bedroom and walked into the closet, she noticed the layout had changed.
She had once organized this place; it used to be two large rows of wardrobes, but now it had become a corner cabinet, probably to store more items. It was also clearly divided into male and female sections, with the female section being larger.
Amara's heart tightened as she gently opened the cabinet.
The over 12-foot cabinet was filled with women's clothing, including casual wear, formal suits, and small dresses. The accessories filled several large drawers, and a Patek Philippe women's watch caught her eye.
The style matched the couple's watch Kingsley used to wear, but Amara remembered that this watch was no longer available on the market, yet he had bought it.
She had mixed feelings. Then she looked down at the ring on her finger, also a token of his affection, but she couldn't find the same thrill as before. It was probably because she had been through too much.
She didn't try on the watch, gently putting it back.
Kingsley stood at the door.
He had ditched his tie, and his shirt sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, showing off his strong forearms, giving him that mature, rugged look.
He watched for a bit, then walked over and picked up the watch. "Don't like it?"
"It's too expensive! I can't wear it to work."
Kingsley tapped her head lightly and smiled. "There will be opportunities! After we get married, my mom will probably drag you to all sorts of events. And I'll be the one taking care of Jesse at home."
Amara smiled along with him. "Is that really necessary?"
He leaned in to kiss her, his voice a bit muffled. "Yes, it is!" Then he patted her, signaling her to change clothes.
Amara changed out of her dress, removed her makeup, and took a quick shower. When she got back to the living room, she found that Kingsley had made spaghetti.
Amara sat down and looked up at him. "When did you learn to cook?"
Kingsley said, "Do you really want to know?"
Amara looked at him.
After a while, he said lightly, "It was after I went to Libytania. Every day was just work, and I couldn't get used to the food there. I didn't bring a chef with me, so I learned a bit myself."
Now his cooking skills were way better than Amara's. Even a simple plate of spaghetti was delicious. After taking a bite, Amara's hand was held. She looked up to see Kingsley watching her intently. "Is it good?"
Amara smiled lightly. "It's pretty good."
Kingsley watched her for a while, then smiled. "Then eat more."
Amara, mindful of her figure, only ate half.
After finishing the spaghetti, she cleaned up the dishes while Kingsley went to take a shower. When she got to the master bedroom, she still felt a bit uneasy. They had a child, but she had never slept in this bed.
Thinking about the possibility of them making love again later, Amara blushed. She then picked up her phone and took care of some tasks for the next day.
She was focused when Kingsley came out of the bathroom.
He wrapped one arm around her from behind and took the phone from her hand with the other. "Working so late?"
Amara felt a bit helpless.
He sat on the sofa, pulling her onto his lap, and tossed her a towel. "Help me dry my hair."
In the stillness of the night, they were alone together. Amara felt a softness in her heart as she gently wrapped a towel around his wet hair, tenderly drying it while murmuring, "All these years, you haven't changed a bit."
"Really?" Kingsley held her waist with one hand, gently stroking back and forth, heavily implying his intentions.
Amara didn't dare to tease him, focusing on drying his hair. After a long time, she whispered, "Alright! Let's go to bed. We have to get up early for work tomorrow."
But he held her waist, not letting her get up. "Amara, you haven't wished me a happy birthday yet."
He never used to care about birthdays. But this year he had Amara and Jesse.
Amara sat sideways on his lap, feeling the heat of his body. She was a bit afraid he might want to make love again, so she leaned against his shoulder obediently. "Didn't I already give you a gift?"
This position was so close that she could see his chiseled jawline, slightly raised, making him look extremely sexy.
Amara's body trembled slightly.
But Kingsley didn't let her off, gently stroking the back of her neck. "I want to hear it."
She could only wrap her arms around his neck. "Kingsley, happy birthday."
Kingsley's grip on her tightened a bit. After a moment, he kissed her. "Next year at this time, I hope you'll be saying 'Happy birthday to my wonderful husband.'"
Amara bit his lip lightly, her tone playful. "Are you the only one who gets to have a birthday?"
Kingsley always liked that, and he couldn't resist. He immediately picked her up and carried her to the bed. After laying her down, he pressed his lips against hers and whispered, "I thought you were tired and didn't want to bother you, but you're just too tempting."
At first, Amara resisted. Although she had only ever made love with him, she had a vague understanding that someone like Kingsley was extremely indulgent. However, he always had ways to make her give in.
Early in the morning, Amara woke up with a sore back. She lay there for a long time without getting up.
She thought, 'Indulgence leads to ruin; I don't want to go to work at all!'
As for Kingsley, who had been so aggressive last night, he was no longer in bed. He appeared at the master bedroom door, looking refreshed, fastening his cufflinks with an air of elegance. "I'll take you to the office."
Amara looked at him for a long time before lying back down.
She really couldn't get up.
Kingsley chuckled softly, walked over, and sat on the edge of the bed. His hand slipped under the covers, and soon Amara was holding his hand to stop him from going further. She murmured, "No more! I have a meeting at the office this morning, and I have all the materials."
As she said this, her cheeks flushed.
Kingsley's long fingers gently stroked her fine eyebrows. "If you find it too exhausting, just quit. When you come back, I'll give you some funds, and you can do whatever you want."
But Amara had other thoughts.
The Ascend Global Group project, which she had been preparing for half a year, was now almost finalized. Once the contract was signed, she would be a partner at the Carter Group. That way, she would feel more worthy of Kingsley, and she would have more confidence standing by his side.
But she also knew that Kingsley didn't want her to stay at the Carter Group.
She leaned against the headboard, her voice soft. "Mr. Carter will return to Bostan next year to take charge. I'll stay in Syeattel and might take over the branch here. Kingsley, our relationship is one thing, but it's best not to mix business with personal matters."
Amara knew well that the more she gained, the more she had to give. She was different from Charlotte, who had a strong family background and had contributed a lot to the Hawkins Family when Frederick was not around. Amara had nothing now. What made her think she could stay by Kingsley's side? His feelings? Or the child she bore for him? These were unreliable. Only if she had her own career could she say she was worthy of him.
After Amara finished speaking, Kingsley just gently touched her face. "Alright, we'll talk about it next year."
He was rarely so agreeable, and Amara was very happy. Since their reunion, he had always taken the initiative, while she rarely did. But now, she truly wanted to be intimate with him.
When she sat on his lap, Kingsley's blue eyes deepened. "Amara, do you know what you're doing?"
He leaned close to her ear, biting her cheek and murmuring, "You're tempting me!"
Amara's slender arms wrapped around him, and she tilted her head to kiss his smooth, handsome jawline. He smelled fresh, with a hint of aftershave.
Kingsley just looked down at her. Amara's face flushed as she kissed him passionately. He gently removed the thin blanket, held her face, and whispered, "We'll leave at 8:30, so we have half an hour! Amara, have you become naughty over the years?"
After making love, Amara blushed deeply.
She then washed up, changed clothes, and had breakfast, and got into Kingsley's car.
After two days of intimacy, Kingsley didn't seem tired at all. Instead, he looked even more energetic. He leaned over to buckle Amara's seatbelt and said softly, "My dad called and said he wants Jesse to stay for two days. How about we take Hailey over too?"
Amara shook her head. "Better not, Hailey might not be comfortable staying there."
Kingsley didn't insist and kissed her.
He first dropped her off at the Carter Group's branch office. After she got out of the car, he headed to his own company. Amara walked into the elevator just as Mia arrived and, noticing her off expression, asked, "What's wrong?"
Mia hesitated for a moment but then said, "Something happened at the main office! Mr. Matthew Carter had a sudden heart attack and died last night. Mr. Landon Carter flew back to Bostan overnight."
Amara was a bit stunned and quickly took out her phone to check the news.
Sure enough, the headlines were all about the death of a Bostan tycoon, with pictures of Landon and Matthew's first wife, Briana Carter, standing together, looking solemn and harmonious.
But Amara knew that the Carter Group had a long history of internal strife.
Landon's position as heir was not easy, and Briana had never let go, openly and secretly fighting for control. With Matthew's death, even if there was a will, it wouldn't be easy for Landon to secure the CEO position.
Amara called Landon. He answered, his voice a bit hoarse. "You heard?"
"Mr. Carter." Amara softly expressed her condolences.
Landon said, "I will."
He paused before slowly speaking, "Amara, I might not be able to return to Syeattel for a while. I signed a letter of intent with the Ascend Global Group overnight, so that's temporarily settled. But the main office needs people, and I need my own people around. Amara, you understand what I mean, right?"
Amara understood how brutal the fight for assets worth hundreds of billions of dollars could be.
Landon wasn't greedy for money; he actually preferred freedom. But the Carter Group was a place he had managed for over 20 years, with many employees and subordinates who had grown with him. So he couldn't just abandon it.
Though he knew it was a difficult for her, he had no choice; he needed someone he could trust completely, and Amara was the only candidate.
Amara only took 10 seconds to consider.
She held her phone and spoke calmly, "Mr. Carter, I'll take a flight this afternoon."
Landon was somewhat moved. He knew that if Amara stayed in Syeattel, she would have everything. She didn't need to work hard at the Carter Group anymore.
He wanted to say something but didn't know what.
Amara said softly, "I'll explain things to Hailey. Mr. Carter, see you at 5 PM."
On the other end, Landon felt a bit melancholic. Amara was the trusted aide he had cultivated. She was professional and calm, but sometimes he regretted it, even wishing she wasn't so calm.
