Chapter 549 Johnny, Do You Still Want This Shirt?
Lola had a soft spot for girls and really wanted a baby girl, so she asked, "What should we name her?"
She then grumbled, "The last name Flores is tough to pair with a first name! Hawkins sounds way better."
Johnny chuckled. "Totally!"
They both burst into laughter.
After a while, Lola whispered, "Are we really having a baby?"
Truth be told, she wasn't that into kids either.
When kids were little, they were so fragile, hard to take care of, and they cried a lot! But if it was her and Johnny's kid, she felt she could handle any noise, and it would definitely be adorable.
Lola cut back on work. She focused on taking care of the baby and prepping for the wedding. Molly, who was also pregnant, came over to keep her company. Lately, Molly had picked up knitting, and she wasn't just knitting for her own baby but also making stuff for Lola's.
Tiny pink and blue sweaters and pants looked so cute. Each set wasn't even as long as Johnny's arm.
Lola was amazed and leaned her head on Molly's small shoulder, blinking. "Molly, you're a total rockstar!"
Molly blushed. She still wasn't used to being so close to Lola. After spending so much time together, Lola was different from what she had imagined. Not as cold and proud as before, sometimes even a bit spoiled around her. Johnny must really like her!
As Molly was lost in thought, the apartment door opened.
Johnny came back with Gavin, and while changing his shoes, he casually asked, "What's for dinner tonight?"
Lola thought for a moment and answered, "I want roasted chicken wings."
She looked at Molly!
Molly's voice was small. "I'll have that too!"
Johnny laughed. "Molly, no need to be shy. Gavin's cooking tonight."
Molly's cheeks flushed slightly. She looked at Gavin; he was impeccably dressed and just as charming as before their marriage. In contrast, her belly was gradually growing larger, and she no longer had her slim figure. She was somewhat worried that he wouldn't like it. Yet even so, Gavin's desire remained undiminished, and he often made love to her until she cried.
Even after being married for so long, Molly still didn't dare to look at him openly.
She glanced at him and quickly looked away, her voice small. "I want roasted pork ribs."
Gavin brought in a bag. It happened to have pork ribs in it.
Molly looked happy. "How did you know I wanted this?"
Gavin unbuttoned his cuffs and smiled lightly. "Because I know you very well!"
Thinking of last night, Molly's face flushed deeply.
Gavin was shameless!
Lola leaned on the sofa, looking at Gavin. "In broad daylight, Gavin, control yourself! Not even ten Mollys could keep up with you."
Molly's face turned even redder, not daring to say a word. Lola looked at her and guessed what Gavin couldn't let go of at that moment!
With Gavin's strong personality, having a little girl like Molly at home must make it all too easy and amusing for him to tease her.
Gavin's cooking skills were as sharp as his knack for teasing Molly, and the food he whipped up was absolutely delicious.
After dinner, he and Johnny holed up in the study for a couple of hours. When they finally emerged, Gavin took Molly and headed out. Johnny came out a bit later, rubbing his forehead.
Lola was watching TV and asked softly, "You've been spending a lot of time with Gavin lately?"
Johnny responded with a hum. He raised his hand to unbutton his shirt and said softly, "He's got a project he wants me to invest in. After looking into it, it seems doable. I might have to go on a business trip for a few days next week."
Lola nodded and didn't press further.
But Johnny wasn't letting her off that easy. He hugged her shoulders from behind the sofa. "Why didn't you ask more?"
"Your company's stuff isn't for me to meddle in. Plus, Gavin's still my brother!" Lola was usually good at keeping personal and professional matters separate.
Johnny shot back, "What if I give you shares? Wouldn't that make it appropriate?"
He thought for a moment and said, "How about 20 percent?"
Lola turned around, hugging his neck and said softly, "No! Johnny, our relationship doesn't need that kind of expression. It's not like I don't have money!"
Johnny looked down at her, his voice husky. "But Lola, I want to give you everything I have and share everything with you."
Lola took a deep breath. "That sounds pretty touching!"
Lola laughed for a bit, then got serious. "By the way, I have something to tell you. Darren's treatment abroad went really well, and he's coming back!"
Johnny, being the possessive type, couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy.
Seeing his expression, Lola said softly, "Don't be jealous. Darren knows I'm pregnant and that we're getting married. He even brought gifts from abroad."
Johnny pinched her nose. "I'll just treat him like another son!"
Lola laughed. "Darren is like my brother! What son? He's only a few years younger than you, Johnny. Why are you acting so shamelessly like my dad?"
Johnny patted her head and smiled.
He was about to say something when a brief call from Travis made his expression shift.
After a long pause, he hung up and said to Lola, "Travis's mother passed away."
Lola was quite surprised. Wasn't the last surgery very successful? How did she suddenly die?
Johnny whispered, "The Perry family set up a blind date for Travis, and Melissa went to make a scene, which upset Travis's mother again! By the time she was taken to the hospital, it was too late."
Lola was stunned. After a long pause, she said softly, "Melissa doesn't love Travis, but because they were married, she treats Travis as her possession. She doesn't want him, but she won't let anyone else have him either! That's a pretty terrifying mindset."
Johnny nodded, mulling over whether he should personally handle Sierra's situation or let his secretary take care of it.
In the end, he decided to delegate it to his secretary.
The Hawkins family had some ties with the Perry family, so Frederick and Charlotte went over, bringing Kingsley and Sienna along.
A week later, Lola met up with Travis.
In such a short time, Travis had lost a lot of weight. His eyes were even more gloomy.
Seeing him, Lola couldn't just ignore him, especially since he had just lost a close family member.
Travis invited her for a cup of coffee, and she didn't refuse.
In the café, Travis's gloominess was so intense that it scared the waitstaff.
"Why didn't you come that day?" he asked Lola.
Lola was momentarily confused, about to speak, but Travis continued, "Well, you're pregnant, and such an occasion wouldn't be suitable for you."
Lola could only smile faintly.
The waiter brought the coffee, and Travis, with trembling fingers, picked up the cup and drank half of it in one gulp.
Lola noticed blood on his fingers.
She quietly stared at it for a moment, then looked at Travis's face.
Travis also looked down at his fingers, suddenly smiling with an indescribable malice. He said softly, "Before coming here, I saw Melissa."
Lola didn't say anything.
Travis's voice was light. "I broke her legs. She won't trouble me anymore, and I won't be annoyed by her again. The baby in her belly is gone too. Lola, are you happy? She won't be able to use that child to disgust you anymore."
He spoke numbly, and Lola felt even more numb listening to him.
She suddenly felt like vomiting.
It was too disgusting!
Lola ran to the restroom, holding onto the wall as she vomited out all the juice she had drunk. Only then did she lean against the wall, gasping for breath.
Travis appeared behind her, handing her a tissue.
"For the first six months after our marriage, I briefly liked her and wanted to live a good life with her. But in the end, I caused my mother's death. Lola, can you understand how I feel?"
Lola wiped her lips and slowly turned around.
She looked at Travis, finding him unfamiliar, yet it seemed logical.
Anyone would go crazy after experiencing such things!
Travis suddenly laughed again. "But I'm really not reconciled. Melissa always liked Johnny, so why did I lose my mother in the end, while you are about to have a happy family and a cute child? And I have nothing!"
Lola calmed down. "So, Travis, what do you want from me today?"
Travis lightly touched her hair.
Lola avoided him.
Travis didn't mind, instead, he smiled. "I don't want anything; I just wanted to talk to you! Lola, if there's anyone in this world who understands my inner pain, I hope it's you."
"I don't want to know at all," Lola said calmly. "Travis, it wasn't just Melissa who caused your mother's death, it was also you!"
If he hadn't given her the chance, how could Melissa have angered Sierra to death?
Lola said softly, "I'm really sorry, Travis. But you need to move on from the past."
After saying that, she walked towards the door.
Travis said softly behind her, "I can never be as ruthless as you and Johnny! That's why you never liked me, right?"
Lola paused but didn't respond.
As she was about to leave his sight, Travis raised his voice slightly. "Lola, I like you!"
But Lola had already left.
She had some things to do, but now she had no mood for them. Sitting in the car, she called her secretary to cancel her schedule.
After hanging up, Lola leaned back in her seat, lost in thought.
Melissa had a miscarriage, and her legs were really broken.
Lola didn't feel as happy as Travis said, but rather heavy-hearted. She felt that Travis had gone mad and he was very different from before. Did he really break Melissa's legs and cause her miscarriage just to vent his anger?
Lola had some doubts.
In the evening, while Johnny was cooking in the kitchen, Lola walked in and hugged him from behind, pressing her face against his back.
Johnny slightly turned his head and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
It took Lola a while to speak softly, "I saw Travis today. He said he broke Melissa's legs, and the baby is gone too."
Johnny's body stiffened slightly but he didn't say anything.
Lola looked up at him, unable to read his emotions, and finally, she smiled faintly and didn't continue.
She went to the living room to watch TV while Johnny continued cooking.
The sound of chopping vegetables came from the kitchen, clean and crisp, while "Tom and Jerry" played on the TV. The bloodiness and unhappiness from seeing Travis seemed far away.
Lola thought she should forget about those things and keep a good mood.
At night, Johnny had to work overtime. After taking a shower, he went to the study.
Lola, when she had free time, would occasionally do some housework.
She liked to tidy up his clothes and then put them in a bag for the maid to take to the dry cleaners. If she had time, she would personally take them.
Lola took his white shirt, rummaging through the pockets before putting it in the laundry bag.
She found a small bloodstain on the cuff.
It wasn't obvious, probably treated with water, leaving a faint red mark.
Stunned, she sat on the dressing room sofa, staring at the shirt. She wanted to ask Johnny about the blood but knew he wouldn't tell her. Imagining the worst, Lola felt utterly drained.
Just then, the dressing room door opened.
Lola looked up and saw Johnny. Their eyes met, and Johnny said softly, "Let the maid do these things. It's not convenient for you."
After a long time, Lola managed to squeeze out a smile.
She asked him, "Johnny, do you still want this shirt?"
