Chapter 851 Gavin: Give This Project to Grant!

Haven had caught a cold.

She was in Gavin's study, curled up on a little pink bed that used to be Mercy's favorite spot. Now, it was Haven's.

Gavin noticed right away that Haven wasn't feeling well.

He closed his files, got up, and walked over to her, squatting down. "Hey, what's up? Come here, let me see."

Haven, wearing a little dress, ran over to him.

Her eyes were filled with tears, and she looked a bit pitiful, with a red nose... It must have been from the wind yesterday evening, and now she had a bit of a cold.

Gavin picked Haven up with one hand and hurried downstairs.

The whole house was empty except for the servants and the two of them.

As he walked, Gavin comforted Haven, "Let's go ask Isolde Blake for some cold medicine. You'll feel better after taking it, sweetie."

Haven sniffled, looking very delicate.

Gavin looked at her, reminded of Natalie when she was little, so small and well-cared for.

Downstairs, Isolde saw them coming.

Gavin was so handsome!

Even working from home, he wore a white shirt and black casual pants, looking very dashing... and holding the adorable Haven in his arms, it was a picture-perfect scene.

As he descended the stairs, Gavin asked, "Isolde, where's Haven's cold medicine?"

Isolde replied, "Haven's got a cold? That's serious, I'll get it right away."

Everyone in the house doted on Haven, especially Isolde.

She not only brought the medicine but also made a cup of honey water, worried that Haven might find the medicine too bitter.

Haven took the medicine while sitting on Gavin's lap.

She held the cup with both hands, obediently drinking the bitter medicine, her little face scrunched up...

Gavin handled some work on his phone.

There was a development project recently, worth a few million dollars, with limited profit margins, maybe three to four million dollars at most.

Grant had bid on it!

Gavin had reviewed his proposal. Strictly speaking, Grant's current situation didn't meet the qualifications, and the risk was too high...

Although a few million dollars was a drop in the bucket for the Devereux Group, it wasn't Gavin's style.

He had hesitated all morning.

Haven finished her medicine and, feeling fussy, wanted Gavin to hold her. She refused the honey water and just wanted to be held.

Her little face pressed against Gavin's arm, her curly hair looking cute and pretty.

Gavin's heart softened. He kissed her forehead, his voice hoarse, "Let's do it for our Haven."

He held Haven with one arm, freeing a hand to call his secretary. His voice was calm as he instructed, "Give that project to Grant. Don't say it was my decision."

The secretary was momentarily stunned, probably not expecting this decision from Gavin.

Gavin repeated, "Do as I said."

After hanging up, he carried Haven back upstairs. Haven loved being carried by Gavin like this, feeling like a little bundle.

In the evening, Grant received the news.

He had secured the Devereux Group's subsidiary project.

The result surprised him... He had looked at the bid for a long time and hesitated for a while. He guessed Gavin chose him because of Haven.

In the past, he might have scoffed at this.

But now, with a family to support, he couldn't afford to be picky if he wanted to make a quick comeback...

He had no choice but to accept others' goodwill unless he wanted to rely on Nancy, which would be even more humiliating.

Grant smoked two cigarettes in the kitchen.

When he came out, he placed the bid documents on the small dining table and told Nancy, "Let's fix up the house first. Once that's done, we'll go out for a nice meal! I'll be busy starting tomorrow."

He also told Benjamin, "While I'm away, you need to take care of Nancy and the baby."

Benjamin's eyes lit up.

He looked at Nancy, hoping she would say something.

Nancy felt a headache just looking at him and turned away.

Benjamin lowered his head, looking dejected.

Grant patted his shoulder, "Things will get better! You need to start learning to live again. If you can't move on, how can anyone else?"

Benjamin, being young, couldn't process it.

So Grant took him downstairs, making him mix cement and do some heavy work.

Benjamin's face was covered in dirt, but he was smiling happily.

Nancy came by to bring them water.

While drinking, Grant glanced at Benjamin sitting far away and said softly, "He's actually a good kid, very obedient."

Nancy didn't respond.

Grant hugged Nancy, his voice low, "You didn't really want to send him to that place, did you? You just couldn't let go of your pride and made him choose! Nancy... why put yourself through this? I can tell he likes you."

Nancy was usually very gentle, but on this matter, no amount of persuasion worked.

She remained cold towards Benjamin.

But despite her coldness, she didn't neglect his meals, clothes, or school supplies. She prepared everything for him in the afternoon.

They had dinner out, and Nancy even packed the leftovers.

Grant thought she was being frugal, but then she rinsed the leftover fish twice and added a few shrimp before going downstairs to feed the cats.

Benjamin accompanied her, holding a flashlight in the old, unlit neighborhood.

Several stray cats were fighting over the food.

Nancy watched quietly, her tone cold, "Don't think that just because you follow me, I'll like you! Taking care of you is like feeding these cats, just out of pity!"

Benjamin sniffled, feeling a bit hurt.

But when Nancy left, he still hurried to her side, carefully holding her arm and calling her Nancy, telling her to be careful.

Nancy's eyes reddened, "Don't call me Nancy."

Benjamin stood there for a while, biting his lip.

"Can I call you Mom? I'll call you Mom and Mr. McCall Dad."

Nancy was stunned for a long time, finally gritting her teeth, "My father was a renowned scholar and professor before going into business, and your mother was a high achiever too! How did they end up with such a fool like you?"

She walked faster.

Benjamin, afraid she would leave, followed closely!

Back home, Grant had finished setting up the small room.

Everything inside was new.

It was cozy, with pirate ship-themed sheets that boys liked... Nancy guessed it was what Grant liked as a child, now projected onto Benjamin.

She watched for a while, then turned and went back to her bedroom.

Benjamin was initially excited, but now he hung his head.

Grant ruffled his hair, "Feeling down already? A man can't be like this! It's not easy being my son."

Benjamin's face flushed.

For the first time, he snapped, "I never said I wanted to call you Dad!"

Grant just smiled.

He looked at Benjamin's homework, which wasn't great due to the family's upheaval... but he didn't say anything, thinking everyone needed some time to adjust.

In this family, everyone needed to heal.

Him, Nancy... and now Benjamin too.

Only their own child was born into simplicity, carefree and happy.
