Cordelia recognized Bruce right away.
Her company depended a lot on the Taylor family, with about 20% of their business coming from the Taylor Group. She'd met the Taylor heir a few times, but the size difference between their companies meant she never got close.
She never thought she'd run into him here.
Cordelia started to sweat.
When she spoke, her usual sharpness was gone. "Mr. Taylor, please, have a seat."
Bruce gave a slight nod.
He gently helped Sienna sit down, then called a waiter to bring a high chair for their baby. The director had already set it up, and Will's seat was quite comfy!
Bruce finally sat down.
Eldon still hadn't figured out what was going on. He was just excited, realizing Cordelia actually knew Bruce. Given Cordelia's successful business, Bruce was sure to show her some respect.
Of course, Eldon knew his place.
Since Cordelia wasn't talking, he stayed quiet too, waiting for her to lead.
Unexpectedly, Cordelia spoke in a humble tone, even serving Bruce some food. "Mr. Taylor, it's been a while. I didn't expect to see you and your wife today. How's your father? Try this, it's a local specialty."
Bruce didn't touch his fork.
He raised his glass and gave Cordelia a faint smile. "My father's doing well! He's still running the Taylor Group, which gives me time to spend with my wife and son. But as soon as I got here, I got a call from the director saying the male actor in the crew was complaining about Sienna being unprofessional and refusing to do a kissing scene. But Cordelia, you run a business, so you should understand the importance of contracts. If the crew didn't agree, they could have chosen not to hire Sienna. Why is it different with Eldon? Cordelia, did you train him yourself?"
Cordelia was already drenched in sweat.
She quickly said, "It's Eldon's fault. I apologize to Mr. Taylor on his behalf."
Cordelia, a woman, downed a glass of wine in one go.
Bruce remained unmoved.
In the business world, this was nothing to him. He smiled slightly. "Cordelia, aren't you standing up for Eldon? If Sienna didn't have a background, would you use your money to oppress her and make fun of her at the table? Cordelia, you're a woman too. How can you help a malicious male actor bully another woman?"
Cordelia's face turned pale.
She was inwardly cursing her luck.
Eldon couldn't hold back any longer. He stood up for Cordelia. "Hawkins, watch your mouth. Cordelia is a respectable woman."
Bruce's tone was calm. "When did I say she wasn't respectable? Did I say she keeps a toy boy?"
Eldon wanted to say more.
Cordelia snapped, "Get out! This is not your place to speak."
She knew very well that someone like Eldon was just a plaything. Offending two powerful families for him and ruining her own business was out of the question. She glared at Eldon.
Eldon had never been treated like this before.
He wanted to speak.
The director cut in, speaking bluntly. "If you don't want to be blacklisted in the industry, leave."
Eldon was stunned.
He felt something was off. The director clarified, "Sienna is the daughter of the Hawkins Group, Frederick and Charlotte's youngest daughter, and the eldest grandson's wife of the Taylor Group. You must have a death wish to try and take advantage of her."
Eldon was completely dumbfounded.
