Chapter 486 It's Really Hard to Get a Hold of You

Seeing Gavin, Amanda felt a pang of distress. Both of them were her beloved kids, and now this mess had happened. But she couldn't help but feel more for Molly.

Gavin asked quietly, "How long will she be gone?"

Amanda shrugged, "I don't know." After a pause, she added, "Gavin, you gotta think this through. Keeping this up will hurt you, Molly, and your parents."

With that, Amanda sighed and headed upstairs.

Back at the apartment, Nathan crawled out of bed and asked, "Molly left? Why didn't you wake me?"

Amanda still felt a bit annoyed with him.

As she tidied up, she half-complained, "You were out cold!"

Nathan scratched his head, genuinely apologetic, and asked about Molly.

Amanda took the dishes to the kitchen, but Nathan swooped in, insisting on doing them himself. His cheerful demeanor made it hard to stay mad.

Amanda glanced at him. After a moment, she couldn't help but say, "You shouldn't have drunk with Gavin."

Nathan shrugged it off, "Seeing Gavin succeed makes me happy!"

He turned and pinched Amanda's cheek. "Gavin's got a big company now. He looks just as impressive as Mr. Devereux did back in the day."

Amanda snorted lightly.

Nathan leaned in and said softly, "Aren't you happy Gavin's doing well?"

Amanda pinched his waist hard. "You're acting like he's your own son!"

Nathan just smiled, unfazed. "I treat him like my own son."

Amanda made a cup of coffee and sat on the couch to drink it.

After a few sips, she teased, "You better be careful not to get hurt by him!"

Nathan was full of confidence. "Sure, he's impressive outside, but at home, he's just a kid we watched grow up. I know him well!"

Amanda couldn't listen anymore.

Gavin smoked two cigarettes downstairs.

Nathan came down to throw out the trash and was surprised to see him. "Gavin, you're still here?"

Gavin said calmly, "I heard Molly's flight is today, so I wanted to see her off."

Then, the two men stood together smoking.

Nathan said casually, "Amanda scolded me for getting you drunk last night. But Gavin, your relationship with Molly is pretty good now, right? Did you reconnect in Syeattel? I always said, kids in a family should support each other."

Gavin smiled faintly.

Nathan thought he had guessed right.

He stubbed out his cigarette and reminisced, "I remember you used to hate her so much when you were little, even tore up her drawing! Later, Amanda pieced it back together and secretly told me it was a wedding dress drawing of Chloe!"

Gavin's fingers trembled slightly, his heart aching.

Of course, he remembered this. He remembered how furious and undignified he was back then, and how upset Molly was. At that time, she couldn't even speak.

Gavin couldn't stay any longer. He said shortly, "Nathan, I gotta go to the office!"

Nathan quickly stubbed out his cigarette. "Alright! You better get going, don't let work pile up!"

Gavin hopped into his car and sped off.

Five minutes later, he realized he was heading towards the airport.

The GPS voice was sweet, but his mind was a mess.

He didn't turn back. He drove straight to the airport, found the terminal entrance, and spotted Molly with Clayton.

Clayton was checking in the luggage. Molly stood beside him.

After getting the tickets, Clayton patted her shoulder, signaling her to go through security.

Gavin stood at the terminal entrance, quietly watching her go in. He didn't call out to her. He just wanted to see her one last time.

Gavin got back in the car. Aria was calling. Without thinking, he said, "Cancel all today's appointments."

Aria was surprised. Gavin never blew off work like this. But she nodded, "Okay, Gavin!"

Gavin was about to hang up when Aria quickly added, "By the way, Gavin, Miss Hughes called looking for you. She said she couldn't reach you all night!"

Gavin frowned. Sarah? He had almost forgotten about her.

After hanging up, he called Sarah. Sarah chirped playfully, "Gavin, it's really hard to get a hold of you."

This kind of flirting was nothing new to Gavin. In the business world, many women tried to get his attention.

He didn't particularly appreciate it.

When Sarah did it, he didn't dislike it, but he didn't feel much either.

He considered for a moment and said, "Let's meet."

Sarah wasn't thrilled. Meeting during work hours was never a good sign. But she agreed.

An hour later, they sat down in a downtown café.

Gavin got straight to the point, "Sarah, we're not suitable. Let's end this."

Sarah blinked lightly. Her long, beautiful fingers gently tapped the cup, looking elegant.

She looked at Gavin and softly said, "You have just broken up, right?"

Gavin squinted slightly, "You investigated me?"

Sarah picked up the cup, took a sip of coffee, and smiled, "Of course, I would investigate a potential partner. If something comes up, I need to know how to handle it!"

"Get to the point!" Gavin demanded.

Sarah put down the cup, seemingly a bit gloating. "Molly is quite pretty. If it weren't for the elders, you should marry her."

Gavin stood up, having no patience to listen any longer.

Sarah stopped him just in time and said softly, "Gavin, let's cooperate! I want to gain control of the family, and you need a wife to remind you who you shouldn't get involved with! Of course, if you can convince Molly to be your mistress, I'll pretend not to know."

Gavin stared at her, coldly, "She won't agree!" And he wouldn't let her be wronged.

Sarah smiled faintly; her smile hid a depth of loss known only to her. She thought Gavin would reject her. But to her surprise, Gavin agreed.

He simply said, "Let's see how it goes for a year. If it works, we'll get engaged."

Sarah raised her red lips, "Alright!"

Gavin had no interest in chatting. He quickly left, sat in the car, and quietly zoned out for a while.

After a long time, Gavin took out his phone and opened it. There was a photo of Molly.

On Valentine's Day, she had insisted on making a small cake to celebrate. She wasn't very good at it, and her little face ended up with several spots of cream, looking quite adorable.

Seeing her smile, he had impulsively taken the photo.

Gavin stared at it for a long time, then set up an encrypted album and placed it there alone.

Sarah was right; he needed a wife to remind him not to make mistakes.

On Christmas, Sarah called, inviting him to spend the holiday together. Gavin, holding his phone, sat at the office and said indifferently, "Merry Christmas! But I'm quite busy, let's make it up next time!"

Sarah sighed lightly, "Alright!"

Gavin hung up and continued reading the documents.

Aria knocked on the door from outside, "Gavin, you should head home!"

Gavin didn't look up and casually said, "Let me finish this document! It's Christmas today; you can leave early."

Aria smiled warmly, "Gavin, Merry Christmas to you too!"

After saying that, Aria left.

Gavin unintentionally glanced up and noticed she was wearing a very pretty dress today, looking quite festive.

He couldn't help but zone out. What was Molly doing on Christmas? Was she still abroad?

Gavin flipped through his phone, looking at that string of numbers, but he didn't dial.

He got up, put on his coat, and walked out of the office.

It was snowing outside. But the festive atmosphere on the streets was still strong, with couples kissing openly.

Gavin drove, thinking about getting something to eat. Just then, his phone rang. He answered; it was his parents calling.

He listened absentmindedly, responding while his gaze fell on a distant figure.

Molly! She was wearing a white down jacket, a red knit hat on her head, playing in a snowball fight with some kids. Her warm shoes were a bit wet, but she didn't care at all. Her face was flushed, and she was having a great time.

Gavin was entranced, his parents still talking on the phone, and the car behind him honking furiously. He hurriedly drove away, parked in the nearest lot, got out, and looked again. Just then, Clayton appeared by her side.

Clayton easily chased the kids away. Molly seemed very happy, instinctively hugging his arm. Clayton ruffled her hair and lifted her out of the snow with one hand.

As the car drove away, it passed right by Gavin.

Later, they got into a black Hummer. As the car drove away, it passed right by Gavin. Molly was in the passenger seat. She saw him, and for a moment, she pressed her lips together without saying a word.

Clayton naturally saw him too. He drove, coughing lightly, "It's all in the past! Don't mind it!"

Molly nodded.

Gavin watched the car disappear. After a long time, he returned to his car, his shoes and pants completely wet, but he didn't care. He didn't even feel like eating anymore.

Was Molly with Clayton now?

At that moment, the phone rang again. It was Andrew calling. "Gavin, Sarah is here to spend Christmas with us. When are you coming back?"

Gavin frowned. Sarah went to his house?

Gavin said indifferently, "I'm busy with work."

Andrew cursed, "I can hear the car! Get back here now, dinner is almost ready. We're just waiting for you!"

Gavin hung up. He mocked himself and thought, 'Does it really matter if Molly is with Clayton? Chloe and I are long over. And Sarah is a good choice for a wife.'

Gavin finished a cigarette and started the car.

In a high-end villa in Syeattel, Gavin's car slowly drove in. The driver opened the door with a smile, "The house is lively today. Nathan and Amanda are here too!"

Nathan and Amanda were here too?

Gavin straightened his clothes and walked into the hall. As soon as he entered, Andrew eyed his wet shoes and pants and snorted, "Where have you been? You're a grown man, don't tell me you were out having a snowball fight like a kid?"

Gavin smiled faintly, "I watched a snowball fight."

Andrew scolded him, "You're really something!"

Chloe glanced at him, and he immediately fell silent. He still tried to be respectful of Chloe in public.

Then a servant brought Gavin a pair of shoes to change into.

Sarah smiled gently, "Nathan and Amanda are here, why not invite Molly? I heard she's a very talented designer."

Nathan said, "She's busy!"

Amanda, always sharp, smiled warmly, "She has her own life! Nathan and I came to join the fun and see you and Gavin." After saying that, she still smiled warmly.

Sarah smiled slightly.

Nathan found it odd, "You're usually so quiet outside, but today you're sharp-tongued. This isn't like you!"

Amanda retorted, "And you look pretty dumb right now, not like your usual self either!"

Nathan laughed and said to Andrew and Chloe, "She's spoiled!"

Amanda invited Gavin to sit down. She even helped him take off his coat, very gently, "Look at you, was the snowball fight that interesting? Your clothes and pants are all wet! You're a grown man yet you're still so willful."

Her words were a clear warning, and Gavin understood.

When Amanda went to the kitchen, Gavin followed.

In the kitchen, with no one else around, Amanda's expression turned cold, and she said softly, "What do you want to know?"

Gavin said softly, "Molly is back, isn't she?"

"Yes."

"How is her health?"

"She's fine."

"How is she with Clayton?"

"They're fine! Stop thinking about her. Molly and you are not meant to be! Gavin, your fiancée is quite something, making things difficult for Molly. I think she knows something! Anyway, you and Molly are square now."

Amanda was very angry. With her temper, she wanted to leave right now! Yet she still had to had to maintain a smiling face around her!

Gavin apologized. Under the dim kitchen light, he said in a low voice, "Don't worry, I'll keep my distance from her! And I'll talk to Sarah."

"That would be best!" Amanda left.

Gavin stood alone in the kitchen. The hall was lively, but he didn't want to join them. He would rather stand in the freezing snow, watching Molly smile.
