Chapter 588 Kingsley, Do You Still Want Me? 1

Desiree got a concussion from the crash.

At first, Desiree wanted to sue Amara, but the restaurant had security footage showing it was just a civil dispute, and Desiree had started the fight. Amara only got a warning at the police station. After she was let go, she headed to the hospital.

By then, it was evening, and the sunset in Stellaria City was stunning, with a touch of sadness.

When Amara walked into the ward, Desiree was crying to Ian Graham and Ralph. "Amara is so ruthless! She hit me so hard; she clearly wanted to kill me."

Ian and Ralph tried to comfort her, and the family seemed pretty harmonious. Amara watched from the doorway for a bit before stepping in.

Seeing Amara, Desiree got all worked up. She pointed at Amara and told Ian and Ralph, "Beat her to death for me."

But they didn't budge.

Desiree was furious and, despite her concussion, was about to go after Amara herself when Amara spoke up, "This is to cover your medical expenses. From now on, we're done! If you come after me or Kingsley again, I will kill you."

Desiree pointed at Amara and chuckled. "How dare you? Ralph, go slap her to wake her up."

They stayed put. Amara's gaze was intense. They believed that if Desiree tried anything else, Amara would really do something drastic.

Amara threw down a thousand dollars and calmly walked out of the ward. Ralph chased after her and called out, "Amara!"

Amara turned around and quietly looked at him. They hadn't seen much of each other in the past two years and were pretty estranged.

Ralph looked unwell, but Amara didn't care.

After a long silence, he finally asked, "Do you really like Kingsley?"

To Ralph, this seemed impossible. What did Kingsley have besides money?

Amara had grown up with the Graham Family; she should have feelings for them, but she didn't. Her heart was with Kingsley. Desiree had told him that she was just a restless person.

Amara gave a bitter smile and said, "Does it matter?"

No matter what, they would never let her have an easy life. They were greedy on one hand and wouldn't allow her to gain wealth on the other. She thought she could be happy, but they ruined everything for her.

Amara's cold attitude made Ralph uncomfortable. He was a bit jealous of Kingsley, who had a great family background and endless wealth. Maybe that was why Amara left him.

Ralph's health had taken a nosedive. He knew he would never find another beautiful girl to marry, so he turned his attention back to Amara. She had grown up with the Graham Family, and controlling her would be a piece of cake.

Ralph thought for a moment before speaking. "I've saved up some money and plan to buy a bigger house. Amara, you know how hard it is to find a 1300-square-foot place in Syeattel, especially near a school. Marry me, and I'll think about adding your name to the deed."

Amara stared at him for a while, then gave a faint smile. "Ralph, I don't love you."

Maybe she only felt gratitude towards him. After he got sick, that gratitude turned into a crushing sense of responsibility.

Amara didn't owe the Graham Family anything anymore. She ignored Ralph and walked away without looking back.

Ralph watched her go. After a long pause, he called out, "I'll definitely be more successful than Kingsley."

She only cared about Kingsley as a person, even though his wealth was a significant part of his charm.

Leaving the hospital, Amara slowly walked to the bus stop.

She hadn't canceled her lease, actually.

She didn't plan to leave Stellaria City. She intended to bring her stuff back and find a job again. If those shop owners were willing to hire her, she would keep working. If not, she would find another job. She just wanted to live well.

Luckily, the landlady of the breakfast shop didn't mind. She just said regretfully, "I heard from Rebecca that your boyfriend is very handsome and rich. Don't be too foolish. Where else will you find such a quality man in this lifetime?"

Her words were blunt, but Amara didn't take them to heart and silently kneaded the dough.

The landlady leaned in and whispered, "Rebecca said that last time you left without saying goodbye, he was upset for a long time. His family set up a bunch of blind dates for him, but he didn't like any of them. Don't you think this is fate? You should seize the opportunity."

Amara listened, a bit dazed.

The landlady kept talking, "If a man like that felt sad for me, I'd be willing to do anything for him!"

Amara suddenly asked, "Would he hate me and be in pain forever?"

"Of course!"

"Then what if he knew I was completely unworthy of him?"

The landlady laughed. "Whether you're worthy or not depends on what he thinks! If he likes you, then you're worthy. If he doesn't, even a wealthy heiress wouldn't be chosen by him."

Amara's heart started pounding.

She put down the dough and looked directly at the shop owner, saying, "I need to take a leave and go to Syeattel."

The landlady was a bit surprised but smiled and patted her. "Wash your face and change your clothes before you go."

Amara nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. She wanted to be brave for once. After all, she had already given Desiree a concussion; what else was there to be afraid of?

She wanted to tell Kingsley the truth and ask him if he still wanted to be with her.

Three hours later, she took a cab from Syeattel airport to the Hawkins Group. It was lunchtime, and she bought food from a place Kingsley liked.

The vibe in the Hawkins Group was pretty off the moment Amara walked in.

The story of Kingsley and Amara's relationship had evolved into 36 different versions, but in every version, they had broken up.

Since Kingsley returned from Stellaria City, he had been in a bad mood.

The employees had worked overtime until 1 a.m. last night and were still exhausted. They didn't expect Amara to show up.

Amara walked to the front desk and said softly, "I want to see Mr. Hawkins."

The receptionist had heard the gossip too and knew that Kingsley now hated Amara, so she didn't dare let Amara go up. Instead, she smiled and said, "You can call him on his private line."

Amara had called, but he didn't answer.

The receptionist understood and whispered, "Mr. Hawkins probably won't see you. If you really want to see him, you can wait here. He doesn't go out for lunch, but he'll leave work in the evening."

Amara softly thanked her.

She sat on a couch in the corner, holding the lunch box, and kept her eyes fixed on the elevator entrance, afraid of missing him.

She didn't eat lunch and waited until around 6 p.m. The receptionist had left, but she stubbornly stayed.

The Hawkins Group had thousands of employees, and there were always people working late, keeping the lobby lights on all night.

In the top-floor office of the Hawkins Group, Kingsley finished his last task, capped his gold pen, and said calmly, "That's it for today. You can leave now."

Rebecca naturally handed him his coat. Kingsley just draped it over his arm. He planned to visit Lola and Johnny later. Lola was pregnant, and Charlotte had put some supplements in his trunk that morning for him to deliver after work.

As for Amara, his family probably got the news in advance. So they didn't ask. Only Frederick seemed a bit upset.

Thinking of Amara, Kingsley's face tightened. He didn't want to dwell on it, so he grabbed his car keys and prepared to go downstairs.

Rebecca called out to him, "Amara is downstairs. She's been waiting for you for a long time."

Kingsley's body stiffened. After a moment, he turned, his expression cold. "What did you say?"

Rebecca repeated herself, bracing for his reaction.

Kingsley stared at her for a long time, then walked out of the office without a word.

Rebecca followed him.

As they stepped into the elevator, Rebecca's heart raced. She wasn't young anymore and couldn't handle this kind of stress. She didn't want to witness the scene but felt she had to.

Kingsley's expression remained grim.

He kept his head slightly raised, watching the red numbers on the elevator wall.

The elevator reached the first floor.

Without looking around, he walked straight out towards the parking lot.

"Kingsley!" a small voice called out to him.

Kingsley slowed his steps and finally stopped, turning to Amara with cold eyes.

Clutching the lunch box tightly, she approached him, her face pale and filled with anxiety.

Kingsley spoke first, staring at Amara as if she were a stranger, but his words were directed at Rebecca, "This person has nothing to do with me or the Hawkins Group. Don't let her in again."

Rebecca cursed silently. The conflict between Kingsley and Amara was really intense!

She was about to speak, but Amara beat her to it.

Amara mustered all her courage and grabbed Kingsley's arm, pleading, "Kingsley, do you still want to be with me?"

Kingsley stared at Amara.

After a moment, he laughed lightly, as if he had heard a funny joke.

He asked back, "Why would I want to be with someone so fickle? Why would I want someone who loves another man? Am I that pathetic? Or are you short on money again?"

He smiled arrogantly. "Sorry, I'm not in the mood today. I don't want to sleep with you."

He saw that the lunch box she was holding contained his favorite food, but he just smiled without any emotion. "You're good at pleasing people, but you're using it in the wrong place!"

With that, he took the lunch box and casually threw it into a nearby trash can.

Amara refused to let go. She grabbed his arm again, carefully pleading, "Can we talk?"
