Chapter 321 You Were Way Out of My League (Part 3)

On Christmas Eve, Andrew spotted Chloe again.

Andrew had been stuck in meetings for 12 hours straight and was totally wiped. On the ride back to the hotel, he shut his eyes, trying to catch a quick nap in the car.

Right next to him were these two purple toy bunnies.

They were cute, but kinda out of place for a guy like him.

Nathan turned around, grinning. "You get to see Chloe tomorrow. It's been ages. She should be over it by now."

Andrew fiddled with the bunny ears, stubbornly saying, "She's just a junior; it's not like I really wanna see her."

Nathan burst out laughing.

Andrew joined in, chuckling.

Feeling pretty good, he rolled down the window to take in the city lights and sighed. "Another year gone! I'm getting old!"

Nathan chimed in, "You're still in your prime, man!"

That was right; given his position, Andrew was still pretty young.

With Nathan's gentle coaxing, Andrew patted his pants and smiled. "Charlotte's gonna be a mom next year, and I'll be a great-uncle."

With no outsiders in the car, the guys spoke freely.

Nathan teased, "Having a kid shouldn't be a big deal for you!"

Even the driver chuckled at that.

Andrew lit a cigarette and jokingly scolded, "You're getting cheekier by the day!"

Nathan kept the banter going.

The vibe in the car was awesome. While waiting at a red light by the square, the driver smiled and said, "Mr. Devereux, it's really lively over there."

Andrew couldn't help but look over.

It was indeed lively.

Fireworks were lighting up the night sky, painting the city in vibrant colors, like a layer of glass over the night. It was stunning.

In the square, a bunch of young folks were setting off fireworks.

Luxury cars were scattered around, clearly belonging to rich folks.

Among them, Andrew spotted Chloe.

She was rocking a white down jacket and a knitted hat, looking even younger.

Her face was flushed, and her smile outshone the fireworks.

Andrew watched quietly.

So, while he was missing her, she was this happy.

He thought she would be sad for a long time.

Nathan noticed Andrew's thoughts and deliberately exclaimed, "Isn't that Chloe? It's not safe for a girl to be out this late. Why don't we invite her into the car and take her home?"

Andrew got out. He patted his wool trousers and opened the car door.

He stood not far from her, dignified, hoping that as soon as she looked up, she would see him.

Suddenly, a loud cheer erupted in the square.

"Propose!"

"Propose!"

"Propose!"

A young guy, holding roses, knelt on one knee under the fireworks.

The dude confessed to Chloe.

Andrew saw her cover her mouth, looking totally shocked.

He saw the young guy's sincere expression; the dude genuinely liked Chloe.

Andrew didn't move forward.

Even though he had already stepped out of the car.

Even though he had already thought of an opening line.

He just stood there, quietly watching her get confessed to. After a moment, he smiled.

'Andrew, how arrogant you are!' he thought to himself.

Back then, she always clung to him, calling him Andrew, but he forgot that she had many choices. The Hawkins family was loaded, and she was gorgeous. What kind of partner couldn't she have?

Plus, the Hawkins family had only two kids.

Charlotte was easygoing, and as long as she was willing, Frederick could take care of Chole for life.

She could be single forever!

And what could he give her?

A toy he waited in a long line under the scorching sun for, or a love he didn't dare to express?

It was truly ridiculous!

Andrew had never felt such self-loathing. Chloe looked up and saw him, dressed in a light-colored wool suit, looking so elegant and noble.

He was more dazzling than the entire night sky.

In front of her was still the boy confessing.

Chloe unconsciously whispered, "Andrew!"

Andrew also quietly looked at her.

He didn't know how long it had been, but his eyes started to hurt. He forced a faint smile, nodded at her, and then got into the black car.

Four cars slowly drove away.

Andrew sat in the car, with those two cute bunnies beside him.

He closed his eyes, leaned lightly on the back seat, and softly instructed Nathan in the front, "Book me a private jet for tomorrow morning."

Nathan hesitated.

After a long time, he finally mustered the courage to say, "The things you worked so hard to buy should be handed to her personally."

Andrew covered his eyes with his hand, his Adam's apple moving slightly. "Have someone send them to Charlotte and say they're for her and Chloe. Let her pass them on! Don't say I bought them."

He was somewhat proud and didn't want others to know he had feelings for Chloe.

He quietly gave up again.

Andrew sat quietly in the car. From childhood to adulthood, he had never felt inferior, but when Chloe was confessed to, he felt deeply inferior.

What he could offer was insignificant compared to that young man.

He felt unworthy.

Fireworks still filled the sky, and the atmosphere was still lively, but he didn't know that behind him, Chloe stood alone.

Her eyes were red, silently calling his name.
