Chapter 132: Mr. Hawkins, Thank You for Your Affection

Charlotte was fuming.

She bit her lip and glared at him. "Frederick, you reek of Katherine. Should I gut you and clean you up? Let's not judge each other!"

She wrapped her arms around his neck, clearly frustrated.

Frederick held her waist, angry but unable to resist touching her. He leaned in like he was about to kiss her but stopped.

"Ms. Russell, are you really that cruel? Clean my insides? How about starting with the outside?" he teased, then picked her up and carried her to the bathroom.

About five minutes later, suggestive sounds of panting, pleading, and splashing water came from the bathroom.

This was the first time Frederick had been with Charlotte without his usual facade. She was surprisingly open, but he lost interest after sex.

He hadn't done the deed for days, craving release, but after making love, he felt indifferent.

It wasn't that it felt wrong—it was actually quite good. Exciting, even. But something was missing.

Frederick, in a bathrobe, leaned against the headboard.

Charlotte came out of the bathroom. Seeing he wasn't interested in more, she started getting dressed.

Frederick watched her quietly. Her eyes were downcast, looking obedient, but he knew it was just a front. She had quite a temper deep down.

She never dared to speak loudly to Ethan before, and Frederick felt a bit jealous thinking about it. Men always cared to some extent.

He lit a cigarette and said nonchalantly, "How long are you going to keep this up?"

Charlotte didn't respond.

Frederick flicked the ash off his cigarette. "Aren't you looking for funding? I'll invest. You can pursue your career or have fun, and I'll have Jessica cook dinner so you can relax without affecting our lives."

His tone was gentle.

Charlotte was dazed for a moment. After a while, she smiled lightly. "Frederick, I'm actually flattered! Seriously, for someone like you to go to such lengths, I should just obediently go back with you."

But she liked him, so she couldn't be his lover anymore. Otherwise, she wouldn't respect herself.

Frederick might not realize it, but for all his promises, he had never said the words that mattered most—Charlotte, I like you! I want to be serious with you!

Never!

All they had was a physical relationship.

Charlotte sniffled lightly. She laughed at herself, "I'm not that valuable. I've sold myself once; can I sell myself a second time?"

Frederick's face darkened. He stared at her.

Charlotte knew what he was thinking, that she was being too much. Indeed, how could he care about the emotions of someone like her? She just needed to stay home and wait for his affection.

Charlotte didn't want that. She had been through emotional hardships, and even though she was deeply involved with Frederick now, she still believed that one day she would meet someone who cherished her as much as she cherished them.

Charlotte fastened the last button. She calmly said, "Mr. Hawkins, I'm leaving now!"

Frederick looked at her and asked, "Is it because of Oliver? Do you like him?"

"No!"

Frederick scrutinized her, his gaze sharp. After a long silence, he said lightly, "Leave in the morning. It's raining outside."

Charlotte's heart softened, and she turned her head.

The golden floor-to-ceiling windows were dotted with raindrops, falling like a lover's tears.

Charlotte couldn't help but think of that night.

He had said he would attend her opening party and meet her parents. She had been so happy that day. But he didn't show up, his phone was off, and while she worried about his safety, he was embracing an old lover in the rain.

If Katherine kissed him, she thought he wouldn't refuse.

He couldn't refuse!

Charlotte's heart, which had just softened, hardened again.

"I'll take a cab back; it's very convenient."

After saying that, Charlotte opened the door and walked out.

The rain outside was heavy and cold.

Charlotte hugged herself lightly, hailed a cab, and as she sat inside, her reddened eyes finally shed tears.

No matter how strong she was, she couldn't bear the current relationship with Frederick.

She used to like him so much and long for a relationship so eagerly.

Frederick didn't plan to stay at the hotel overnight either.

He slowly got dressed, but while pulling up his pants, he found a small pearl earring at the foot of the bed.

He remembered being rough tonight.

Charlotte had been pressed against the foot of the bed, her golden hair spread out on the white bedspread, breathtakingly beautiful.

Frederick stared for a moment.

He picked up the earring and put it in his pocket.

After checking out and getting into the car, he didn't know where to go when Laura called.

"Frederick, Holly made some apple pie. Bring Charlotte over to eat."

Frederick lightly stroked the steering wheel, dealing with his mother.

"It's too late; Charlotte should be asleep."

Laura, sharp-eared, immediately asked, "You and Charlotte aren't living together anymore?"

Frederick, being so proud, couldn't say Charlotte had left. He lazily replied, "No! She's too tired and might not get out of bed."

Laura blushed. She gently scolded Frederick, "You should control yourself. Do you still want kids? Playing too hard when you're young can cause problems later. If you can't conceive, don't blame Charlotte."

She paused. "While you're young, you should hurry and have one. With a child, you'll have a sense of family."

Frederick sighed softly, "Mom, I'll come back for dinner."

Laura finally let him go.

Frederick drove back to Hawkins Mansion.

There was brightly lit, and the hall was bustling, clearly with guests.

When he walked in, he saw it was Ethan, who was holding Chloe.

Chloe's face was red from being teased.

Ethan saw Frederick return, gently put Chloe down, and provoked, "Frederick, you smell like hotel body wash."

Chloe nudged him. "Frederick wouldn't do that. He's the most self-disciplined."

Ethan smirked, "Really?"

To their surprise, Frederick didn't deny it. He sat down opposite them, nonchalantly saying, "I just came from a hotel."

Chloe was stunned.

Frederick really hooked up with someone?

Did he have another woman?

Frederick took a small pearl earring from his pocket and said, "I was too rough. Charlotte lost an earring on the bed and didn't even notice."

As he finished, his gaze lightly swept over Ethan.

Ethan's previously smiling face lost its smile instantly.
