Chapter 768 Johnny, Let's Try Again 2

The bedroom was dead silent.

Johnny couldn't hear anything, but inside, he was falling apart. Just moments ago, Lola had said, "Johnny, let's try again."

His eyes were squeezed shut.

He wanted to agree, to say, "Lola, let's try again."

This time, he wouldn't let her down. He'd treat her right, give her everything he had.

But what right did he have? Johnny, what right do you have?

Your left leg is messed up. You can't even walk properly, let alone make love. You can't even give her the basics of a normal life. What makes you think you can start over with her?

Johnny slowly opened his eyes.

He gazed calmly ahead and began to speak softly. "Because I protected you during the car accident?"

"How long ago was that? Does the truth even matter anymore? What matters is that we separated, divorced, and now we have new partners... What, now you realize my worth and come back to me? Lola, have you even asked me if I still have any feelings for the past?"

Lola softly asked him, "Do you have any feelings left?"

Johnny let out a bitter laugh.

He turned to look at her with a cold gaze. "Maybe a little, since we raised three kids together. But if you want me to say more, there's nothing left. You say I'm like this because of you. It's good enough that I don't resent you; there's no room for more feelings. Tracy is good. She may not compare to you in looks, temperament, or family background... but that doesn't matter. What matters is that she listens and doesn't argue with me. I feel comfortable with her."

He spoke in a daze, his heart aching.

Lola listened quietly. After he finished, they were silent for a long time.

She asked him, "What if I don't leave? What if I insist on staying to take care of you?"

Johnny clenched his fists tightly.

He stared into her eyes. After a long while, he softly said, "Really?"

The next second, before Lola could react, he roughly threw her onto the bed.

He pressed down on her, heavy and sudden, their breaths mingling hotly. Lola couldn't help but shiver.

In her ear, his mocking voice whispered, "Does this feel good?"

There was a hint of ridicule in his tone.

Lola panted, looking at him. Johnny's long fingers lightly stroked her delicate face, his voice soft but his words harsh. "Didn't you say you had no feelings for me? Why are you acting so wanton now that I'm on top of you? Is your current man not satisfying you?"

He spoke lewdly on purpose, intending to humiliate her.

"Leave!"

"Or are you waiting for a cripple to make love to you?"

Tears welled up in Lola's eyes, but she refused to leave, stubbornly looking at him.

Johnny's facial muscles twitched.

Suddenly, he began to undress her, treating her roughly as if she were the cheapest woman.

Lola didn't run away.

As her clothes came off, her perfect, slender body stung his eyes. He unbuckled his belt and pulled down his pants. For the first time, he didn't hide his scars from someone else.

Even after all this time, his left thigh was still a mess, the skin and flesh looking like a patchwork quilt.

Lola felt like crying.

Johnny, however, grabbed her chin, leaning in to lick her lips, softly asking, "Scary, isn't it? It doesn't walk well, people often call it a cripple. It doesn't have much strength. If you want to have sex with me, you'll have to put in some effort. Lola, sitting on a leg like this, do you really feel anything?"

Lola lay softly on the bed.

Though he had undressed her, neither of them had any real desire, only sadness... nothing else.

Her eyes were full of tears.

She once thought she hated Johnny so much that she'd never cry for him again, but she was wrong... Lola knew she was destined to be trapped by him for life.

It wasn't pity; she couldn't even explain herself the reason.

She had loved and felt moved. Now that feeling might be quietly budding again, but it was different from before.

She raised her hand, gently placing her palm on his cheek. Up close, she realized he had lost a lot of weight. He was still handsome, but his face was gaunt.

Lola's hand slowly caressed his skin, her voice tense. She softly asked, "Does it still hurt?"

Johnny caught her hand.

He didn't speak, didn't push her away. Maybe his long-lonely heart needed this comfort too.

He needed it, and so did she.

He held her hand tenderly, completely different from before.

Their fingers intertwined slowly, pressing into the sheets.

Unconsciously, he lowered his head to kiss her... a restrained, trembling kiss, his back muscles tensed with control. Lola didn't resist him, her tear-streaked eyes and trembling lips meeting his.

The kiss was filled with heartbreak.

He was a man, and at this moment, his beloved woman lay beneath him, soft and yielding. No one could resist that.

Johnny knew that whatever he did, she wouldn't refuse.

Whether it was pity or gratitude, Lola seemed ready to give him the rest of her life.

Johnny wasn't a saint. In the heat of the moment, he realized she wasn't feeling anything. She was cooperating, but she had no real desire. This realization chilled him completely.

He stopped, burying his face in her neck.

Breathing heavily to calm down.

After a long while, Johnny whispered in her ear, like sweet nothings but filled with finality. He softly said, "Lola, look at us. How can we continue, how can we repair our relationship? The rest of our lives isn't long, but it's not short either. We've hurt each other and saved each other. Let's end it here... As for the feelings I owe you, the debt I owe the Hawkins family, I think one leg is enough to repay it."

Lola closed her eyes gently. "Johnny, is there only debt between us?"

He replied, "What else is there?"

"Lola, we can't go back. With Tracy, she won't force me like you do! Even with my leg crippled, she takes care of me without flinching. Even if it's for money, even if it's to change her fate, she takes care of me well. I feel good. Why should I give up a woman like that to accommodate you?"

"Lola, don't you think?"

Lola listened, dazed. Even though she knew he was trying to provoke her, she still cared.

These days, Tracy had been by his side.

She couldn't ask how far they'd gone.

She had no idea if was it real or fake.

The sweat from earlier had turned cold. Lola slowly sat up. She picked up his shirt, holding it close. She understood his meaning. She was no longer a normal woman.

He had needs, and Tracy could fulfill them.

After a long while, Lola softly asked, "Do you still love me?"

Johnny lay on the bed, covering his eyes with one hand. After a long pause, he answered her question. "Maybe a little. But Lola, we both need to move forward."

Lola said, "I understand."

She got out of bed and started dressing. She didn't avoid him, dressing right in front of him.

Piece by piece.

When she was fully dressed, she didn't turn around but chose to face away from him. She softly said, "I'm leaving."

Johnny didn't respond.

He propped himself up, leaning against the headboard. He reached for a cigarette on the nightstand, lighting it. Taking a deep drag, the pain eased his heartache.

Just as he felt a bit better, Lola was already gone.

The familiar pain in his chest returned, sentencing him to a lifetime of loneliness.

Before he finished the cigarette, Jody suddenly ran upstairs, barging in without knocking. Even in the dim light, the scattered clothes on the floor, especially the belt, looked quite suggestive.

Jody didn't dare look.

She quickly spoke, "Mrs. Flores cut her wrist on a vase when she went downstairs. She's bleeding a lot. I suggested taking her to the hospital, but she refused and said she'd drive herself."

Johnny didn't hesitate, getting out of bed immediately.

Jody quickly stepped aside.

Johnny threw on a robe and hurried downstairs, moving fast despite his limp.

His leg throbbed with pain.

In the driveway outside the villa, Lola's car hadn't left yet, the window still down.

She sat in the car, her bleeding wrist resting outside.

She turned her head as if expecting him to come down, her deep gaze fixed on him. Her sharp eyes held a hint of victorious mockery.

Johnny knew he'd fallen for her trick. She did it on purpose, to make him worry, to make him care.

Their eyes met for a long moment. Lola smirked slightly, starting the car in front of him.

The window rolled up.

"Lola!"

Johnny called out, but she ignored him. The luxury car slowly drove away from the villa.

Johnny knew she was aware and wouldn't get into trouble.

He should go back upstairs and think about how to handle the coming days, but he didn't want to move. He just stood there.

After a while, he suddenly thought of the maple tree in the backyard.

His leg aching, he walked slowly over and saw the tree's red leaves. It turned out that at the end of summer, the maple tree had quietly turned red.

Johnny's lips trembled, his facial muscles uncontrollably twitching.

The maple tree had turned red.

Would he also wait for his autumn?"
