Chapter 629 Come Over and Take Jesse Home

Amara hung out downstairs for a bit, and when she finally headed back up, she bumped into Landon at the door, just as he was closing it.

"Hey, Caitlyn's having a rough sleep," Landon said when he saw Amara. "Keep an eye on her."

Amara just nodded.

Caitlyn was about to get engaged, so it was best not to get too tangled up with Landon.

Landon chatted with Amara about some company stuff and then gave her a light pat on the shoulder. "If you run into any trouble, come to me. We can't afford to lose our footing in Syeattel."

"Got it," Amara replied.

As Landon's subordinate, she naturally cared about his whereabouts. Landon put out his cigarette and said, "Things are pretty tense in Bostan, but we still need to keep up appearances. Tomorrow morning, I have to take a family photo with her."

Thinking about all that, he wasn't in the best mood.

The Carter Group wasn't his dream; he always craved freedom but was willing to be tied down for life.

Amara saw him off downstairs.

Landon got in his car and drove off quickly.

Amara went back to the apartment, walked into the bedroom, and saw Caitlyn with her shoes and socks off, holding Jesse's toy. A big gift box was next to the pillow. Amara sat by the bed for a bit, then gently reached out to touch it.

Landon probably couldn't bear to leave Caitlyn either. He liked her, but when he was young, he met Charlotte, and ever since, no one else compared. But he forgot that the most important thing in marriage was mutual affection.

Early in the morning, Caitlyn woke up and saw the New Year's gift box.

She opened it, and like every year, it was ten thousand dollars.

After counting it, she sat on the bed, dazed. When she snapped out of it, she jumped up and ran outside. Amara was making dinner, so focused she didn't notice Caitlyn behind her.

"Did Landon come by?" Caitlyn asked, lacking confidence. She was drunk but not completely out of it.

Thinking back, it seemed like she had hugged Landon, kissed him, nibbled him, and said a lot of nonsense. She felt super embarrassed.

Amara paused for a moment and said, "Yeah."

Caitlyn's gaze sharpened.

She stared at Amara. "I didn't lose my cool, did I?"

Amara said, "You did."

Caitlyn held her head and wailed for a bit, then glared at Amara. "You didn't stop me?"

Amara replied helplessly, "I tried, but I couldn't."

After a while, footsteps came from behind Amara, and soon Caitlyn came out with a small bag. "I'm leaving!"

Amara didn't stop her.

Caitlyn stomped her foot. "You're so heartless, not even asking me to stay. I thought we were friends! I even wanted to introduce you to a boyfriend at my engagement! I must have misjudged you."

Amara walked over unhurriedly.

A plate of beef spaghetti was placed on the small dining table.

Caitlyn stared at it for a long time, tossed her bag aside, and sat down, offering praise as she dug in. "I told you, you won Kingsley over with your cooking skills! He could have any beauty he wants!"

Amara just smiled faintly.

Caitlyn really felt she had changed a lot and shouted, "Don't be mad! I'm just speaking my mind! But Kingsley looks at you the way I look at this plate of beef spaghetti. Is he only interested in you? I see Hannah looking at him longingly; They definitely didn't really have sex."

"Even spaghetti can't shut you up?"

Caitlyn looked at Amara's calm demeanor and felt a bit dissatisfied. "Amara, I truly consider you a friend, but you only take care of me because of Landon!"

Amara smiled lightly. She retorted, "So do you want Landon's care or mine?"

Caitlyn didn't speak. After a while, she murmured, "What's the point of saying this? He won't marry me."

Amara was silent. She didn't know Landon's intentions. Caitlyn was almost 30 and couldn't afford to wait, but would such a marriage really be happy?

Caitlyn finished half a plate of spaghetti and was in a daze for a while. She said, "Let's not mention him anymore! It's all in the past!"

However, when Caitlyn got home, she still took down the gift box and carefully touched each new bill because she knew it was the last time.

When Caitlyn got married, she would be someone else's wife.

After seeing Caitlyn off, Amara was alone at home and watched two movies.

In the evening, she wanted to go out for a walk.

Kingsley called, which surprised her. She thought after last night's incident, Kingsley wouldn't have any contact with her for a while, even regarding Jesse.

After thinking for a moment, she answered.

Kingsley's tone was still cold. "Jesse wants to come back! Pick him up at eight tonight."

Amara couldn't help but worry.

She wanted to ask, but Kingsley had already hung up. She thought that in the end, they couldn't even fake it.

Though anxious, Amara knew she couldn't show up early at Jesse's grandparents' house. Not wanting to face judgment, she waited until 7 o'clock before changing her clothes.

She wore a thin red knit dress with a beige coat over it, her long hair simply tied up, looking mature and feminine.

Although she was picking Jesse up, it was New Year's, and she couldn't go empty-handed.

On the way, she carefully bought some expensive supplements and fruits, trying not to be impolite.

When the car arrived at the Hawkins Mansion, it was exactly eight o'clock.

On New Year's Day, the mansion was very lively. Not only was the Hawkins Family there, but Andrew also brought Chloe and the kids to celebrate together. They had two tables for dinner.

Amara drove into the Hawkins Mansion.

She opened the car door and heard the lively sounds. Looking around, she saw a black van—it was the Cook Family's car.

Was Hannah here?

Amara felt it was inconvenient to go in. Just then, a servant passed by, so she opened the trunk and handed over the gifts to be delivered. The servant, an old employee of the Hawkins Family, immediately understood Amara's intention.

With Hannah there, it was indeed inconvenient for Amara.

The servant was accommodating and agreed, taking the items inside and saying to Kingsley, "Mr. Hawkins, Ms. Butler is here to pick up Mr. Butler. Should I bring him out?"

In the large hall, Kingsley was dressed casually, leaning on the sofa reading a magazine, with Jesse leaning against him.

The Cook Family had indeed come, but not to dine as Amara thought. They had only been there for half an hour, visiting and bringing generous gifts to curry favor.

Kingsley looked up and asked indifferently, "Where is she?"
