Chapter 388 Do You Still Want Me

Chloe was sprawled out on the couch, totally zoned into her game.

Outta nowhere, a hand snatched her phone away.

She looked up, eyes wide. No way—it was Andrew!

Wasn't he supposed to be swamped? Didn't he say he wouldn't be free until after New Year's? How the heck did he manage to show up?

She didn't overthink it and just blurted out her question.

Andrew had hustled his way to Syeattel.

Why? 'Cause it was Gavin's birthday. He'd been drowning in work, but after pulling a few all-nighters, he finally made it.

Seeing her, he realized just how much he wanted her.

But this wasn't the place for it. Even though he was dying to hold her, he just ruffled her hair and said, "Don't play games all day; you'll wreck your eyes."

Chloe didn't want him bossing her around, but she didn't feel like fighting.

She put her phone down. "Did you rush over for Gavin's birthday?"

Andrew gave a small smile. "I haven't even got Gavin's gift yet! How about you, as his mom, come with me? You know what our kid likes!"

Chloe's cheeks turned a bit pink.

They'd been apart for years, and even though they were back together, they'd only been close a couple of times. Lately, they'd been drifting apart again, making her feel kinda uneasy.

She grabbed her phone back and pretended to keep playing.

Andrew snatched it again.

Chloe looked at her empty hand and bit her lip. "What are you doing?"

Andrew pulled her up. "Come shopping with me!"

Even in the car, she kept grumbling, "Dinner's almost ready, and tonight's meal is really good!"

Andrew told the driver to get going.

The driver, who was in on it, just chuckled at the backseat drama.

Andrew and Chloe together was a good thing; young love always brought some spark. They looked just like a young couple.

Chloe tried to fish her phone out of his coat pocket.

After a bit, she couldn't find it.

Turns out, he had stashed it in his pants pocket, so she reached for it. Andrew slapped her hand away, his voice a mix of stern and husky. "Behave yourself."

Chloe looked up at him.

Andrew's sharp, handsome face showed a hint of something more.

They'd been close enough times for her to get it.

So, she scooted away from him.

Andrew adjusted his clothes and glanced at her. "Behaving now?"

Chloe turned her head away.

After a while, she said, "Andrew, didn't you say you didn't want to go public with us?"

Andrew patted her head.

She felt wronged and started to argue.

In the dim car, he said softly, "I won't do that anymore! Chloe, we'll be together openly."

He thought to himself, 'As long as you don't mind me being old!'

Even though his tone was calm, Chloe felt like crying.

Just then, Frederick called, asking where she was and saying it was time to eat.

Chloe couldn't bring herself to say anything.

Andrew took the phone and calmly said, "Frederick, it's me! I'm taking her out to eat, and I'll bring her back to the apartment afterward. We won't be coming."

After a few quick words, he hung up and stared at Chloe.

After a moment, he asked gently, "Are you still mad at me? How about I make it up to you?"

Chloe's lips trembled, but she didn't say anything.

Andrew felt bad too. He knew he'd let her down too many times, and she was hesitant to easily accept him.

He didn't argue, just held her hand.

Chloe struggled a bit but then stopped, a sign of her reluctant compromise.

It wasn't for Gavin.

But because she truly loved this man deeply!

The birthday gift had been ready for a while.

Andrew mainly wanted to take her out for a meal, at the same restaurant and private room where they'd been together before.

Nathan had everything set up and was already waiting.

Chloe's eyes were a bit red.

Andrew wiped her tears and gently teased, "You're all grown up, but you still cry so easily. You should be setting an example for our son!"

Chloe kicked him.

Nathan tried not to laugh and said, "Chloe, sit over here."

Nathan poured them some wine.

He was always good at setting the mood and said with a smile, "Chloe's younger, Mr. Devereux. It's only right for you to be considerate of her."

Andrew cleared his throat. "You're getting better at talking."

He turned to Chloe and said gently, "Take off your coat! Otherwise, you'll catch a cold when we go out later if you get sweaty."

Nathan added, "Mr. Devereux really knows how to take care of people!"

Chloe's eyes sparkled.

She deliberately said, "'cause he's old!"

Andrew was serving her food, moving slowly. He paused when he heard that.

He smiled elegantly and said in a low voice, just for the two of them, "Seems I haven't taken good care of you! That's my bad! I'll make it up to you tonight."

Their relationship was now public, and Nathan made some jokes during the meal.

Chloe didn't respond.

But Andrew could tell she wasn't opposed to it.

Andrew wasn't a heartless guy. The softer and more agreeable she was, the more he cherished her.

He owed her too much.

After a while, he took out a peace charm and placed it in her wallet.

But inside the wallet, there was an old one, a gift from him many years ago.

Andrew gently caressed it. "You still kept it."

Chloe didn't say anything, but her eyes were particularly moist. She thought that the reason she agreed to come out with him was to get an explanation from him.

Nathan, sensing the vibe, tactfully left.

In the private room, Chloe lowered her head and asked, "What do you mean?"

Andrew's voice was still gentle, like he was talking to someone he cherished. "What do you think I mean?"

But that wasn't enough for Chloe.

She looked up bravely and stared at him, asking again, "I don't know! Andrew, tell me clearly, have you had me in your heart all these years? What kind of feelings do you have for me? Is it just one-sided on my part, or do you love me too?"

Her voice trembled as she asked.

But she still managed to say everything she wanted to say.

Then, she waited for fate's verdict.

She thought that as long as Andrew loved her, she was willing to let go of everything.

Andrew gently patted her head. Just like many years ago.

Chloe stubbornly looked at him.

She wanted his love as a man for a woman, not responsibility, not the intense sexual craving. She wanted romantic love.

Finally, Andrew spoke softly, "Chloe, before you, I never loved anyone! I admit I appreciate beautiful women, but I never stopped for anyone. I was even prepared to stay single for life, but you're different. Because of you, I changed my life plan. Chloe, I don't know how much I love you! But if love is out of ten, I think it should be ten!"

She started to cry.

Ever since he went to see her and brought her cider,

She told herself not to be fooled by him like before.

They had to be equals.

After Andrew finished speaking, he sighed softly. "So, do you still want me?"

Chloe stared at him.

He was still handsome.

But now he had a few more marks of time, mature and attractive, which she liked very much.

She knew many women liked him too.

"I want you!" she said softly.

After saying it once, she seemed afraid he didn't hear, or maybe she was afraid she didn't hear herself, so she repeated, "Andrew, I want you!"

Andrew stood up and gently hugged her.

He felt particularly sad and excited, and after a while, he said, "In the next few days, I'll go to your place to discuss the wedding, okay?"
