Chapter 938 One Year, If Sienna Leaves, Give Her the Son 1
Frederick had a few sarcastic remarks ready to go.
But seeing Bruce with his head down and Sienna cradling little Will so tenderly, he held back.
He didn't want to make Sienna's love life any more complicated.
Charlotte came over just in time with a cup of coffee for him.
Under the light, her gentle expression and the deep bond they shared as a couple were evident. They could understand each other with just a glance or a gesture.
So, despite his dissatisfaction, Frederick swallowed his words and casually said, "You came over?"
Bruce remained respectful.
He glanced at Sienna before speaking to Frederick, "Dad, I should have come back with Sienna to visit you and Mom sooner. That was my mistake. I'm sorry!"
Frederick sipped his coffee, lost in thought.
After a moment, he suddenly said to Charlotte, "Charlotte, why don't you take Sienna and the baby upstairs? It's getting late, and Will should be going to bed."
Charlotte, though hesitant, patted Frederick's hand and nodded at Bruce.
Bruce warmly said, "Goodnight, Mom!"
He looked at Sienna with longing, but she didn't meet his gaze, heading upstairs with Will in her arms.
Once they were alone in the living room, Frederick spoke calmly, "Have a seat."
Bruce was taken aback, "Thank you, Dad."
Frederick personally made Bruce a cup of coffee, which made Bruce even more uneasy, but Frederick gently pressed him down, "No need to be so formal."
They sat facing each other.
In the past two years, they had hardly ever sat down together like this.
When Sienna wasn't around, Bruce would occasionally drop by with gifts, stay briefly, and leave. He had never really thought about reconciliation.
So, how could there have been any conversation?
Frederick's tone was measured as he said, "Bruce, I thought you and Sienna were both adults, mature enough to handle your relationship. When she hastily married you, none of us were really in favor of it. But looking back, she was taking a gamble. She loved you then and decided to take a chance."
"But she lost. She fled abroad like a deserter in love. The irony is, she didn't lose to someone else; she lost to you."
These words made Bruce feel deeply ashamed.
Indeed, if it weren't for Will, there would be no chance for reconciliation now.
It wasn't that he was particularly attached to Will, but blood ties are hard to sever.
He also felt for Sienna's situation. She had insisted on marrying him, but he hadn't cherished her.
Frederick looked Bruce straight in the eye.
After a long pause, Frederick seemed to make up his mind, "One year. If you two still aren't compatible, then just separate. By then, Will won't be two years old yet, and custody will remain with Sienna."
"Bruce, do you understand what I'm saying? Sienna's mom and I are getting old. While Lola and Kingsley can take care of her, it's not the same. I want someone to be there for her."
Bruce understood Frederick's point. He wanted a son and could find another woman to have one with.
Will was to stay with Sienna.
That was the deal.
Otherwise, he couldn't take Sienna to live with him.
It was a gamble, just like when Sienna had married him without hesitation.
But Bruce only needed a minute to decide, "Dad, I agree."
Bruce felt a bit dazed as he spoke.
Then, he tilted his head slightly, as if holding back tears, "If Sienna doesn't want to be with me after a year, I'll give Will to her."
Frederick's expression softened, and he smiled slightly, "Alright then. It's getting late. You should head home."
His tone still carried a hint of distance.
Bruce stood up to leave but turned back, "I'll go check on the baby."
