Chapter 19: Ethan Chooses Power
Frederick grabbed the car keys and said calmly, "I'll go check it out."
Ethan drove alone to the agreed location.
He got out of the car, dragging $5 million in cash to the warehouse, demanding the kidnappers release the hostage.
Thomas, with a scar on his face that made him look quite intimidating, took a few stacks of cash to verify their authenticity. Once he confirmed it was real, he was delighted.
"Mr. Cooper, you sure are loaded. If you had been this smart before, Miss Hawkins wouldn't have had to go through all that."
He signaled his men to release Chloe immediately.
As soon as Chloe was free, she threw herself into Ethan's arms, crying, "Ethan, why did you take so long? I think my leg is broken... it hurts so much. They even said if you didn't come, they would rape me."
Ethan held her, comforting her.
But his eyes were fixed on Charlotte.
Charlotte struggled desperately, but her mouth was stuffed with rags, preventing her from saying a word.
Charlotte knew Ethan well; sacrificing her for power was nothing to him.
From start to finish, Ethan didn't say a word.
He watched as Charlotte went from struggling to slowly becoming hopeless.
Thomas laughed, lightly lifting Charlotte's chin with a knife. "Mr. Cooper, she's so pretty; she's worth at least $2 million. Why don't you take her, too? Otherwise, my men will have their fun with her."
Ethan could afford $2 million.
But he couldn't pay for it!
Frederick was already suspicious of him, and he couldn't risk Chloe suspecting his relationship with Charlotte. If Chloe found out and broke off their engagement, years of his efforts would go down the drain.
Between power and Charlotte, Ethan chose the former.
Ethan didn't dare look at Charlotte's hateful eyes. He turned his back and said coldly, "I don't know her!"
Charlotte had already guessed the outcome; her eyes were empty.
Tears slid down her cheeks.
She thought, 'Ethan, you're so ruthless!'
Ethan acted like he didn't see her. He held Chloe and walked toward the car outside. Chloe gently tugged at him, whispering, "Isn't this a bit too much? What if she gets raped? Oliver would be heartbroken."
Ethan pressed on her injured leg.
Chloe cried out in pain, "It hurts so much. Ethan, please take me to the hospital."
Ethan put her in the car.
As he straightened up, he took one last look at the warehouse, thinking to himself, "Charlotte, don't blame me!"
Ethan got in the car and started it immediately, afraid that if he delayed any longer, he might regret it.
In the abandoned warehouse, Thomas spat and cursed, "Not even worth $2 million! Just let us have fun."
He told his men to hurry up. "Have your fun, but don't mess things up!"
The men were thrilled.
They had never seen such a delicate woman before. Honestly, she was even prettier than Ethan's fiancée. If they slept with her, who knew how much fun they'd have!
Charlotte's eyes were filled with fear and more hatred!
If she had once hoped Ethan would show mercy, from this moment on, she only had hatred for him.
Just as the kidnapper was approaching her with a sinister grin, suddenly, a crisp sound echoed from the corner of the warehouse.
The men were startled.
Who was it?
Frederick leaned against the gray wall, playing with a lighter.
He had an air of nobility and was strikingly handsome, his expensive suit contrasting sharply with the dilapidated warehouse.
He smiled faintly. "Ms. Russell, why are you always in such a mess every time I see you?"
Charlotte was stunned.
She slowly turned her head and saw Frederick walking toward her.
At the same time, the sound of countless police sirens filled the air.
At that moment, she had never been so grateful to him!
In the ensuing chaos, he picked Charlotte up.
She nestled into Frederick's embrace, his arms enveloping her in warmth, exuding a subtle, pleasing masculine fragrance.
