Chapter 658 Alright, Landon, I'll Sell Myself to You!
Amara could tell Kingsley was getting jealous again. She gently held his arm and asked softly, "Aren't we out here to relax? Why are you upset again?"
Kingsley was blunt. "Can't I be jealous?"
Under the city's neon lights, Amara's face looked especially delicate. Since it was a private gathering, she dressed more seductively, leaning against him obediently.
She hugged his waist gently, whispering, "Kingsley, let's not talk about the past, okay? No blame on either side!"
The night breeze was really nice.
Hearing her words, Kingsley felt his heart soften. He grabbed her hand, wrapping it around himself, their noses touching, eyes locked. "Alright!"
Amara couldn't help but want to kiss him. He was tall, so she had to stand on tiptoe. When she got emotional, she couldn't help herself. Kingsley didn't move, just lowered his head, his blue eyes watching her.
As she leaned in to kiss him, a faint blush colored her cheeks and she cautiously deepened the kiss, her heart racing with emotion.
For a long time, he didn't respond to her. Blushing, she wanted to end the kiss, but her waist was held tightly. Then Kingsley hugged her and kissed her passionately for a long time, right in the bustling parking lot. Amara felt she had never been so bold.
Jimmy came out for a smoke. In the time it took to smoke half a cigarette, he saw this scene.
Damn it! Kingsley usually acted so proper, but now he was kissing so fiercely! Didn't they already have kid? How could they still maintain such passion? It didn't make sense!
So Jimmy, holding his cigarette, smoked while watching. After finishing his cigarette, Jimmy called out, "Kingsley, you're here; why don't you come up!"
Compared to Amara, Kingsley was much calmer. He held Amara, letting her face bury in his chest, and calmly greeted Jimmy, "Amara wants to stay down here for a bit!"
Jimmy gave him a look and thought, 'Kingsley is truly shameless.'
Jimmy didn't dare offend Kingsley, turning to greet Amara, "Hey, Amara, let's go up; they're having a blast!"
Amara nodded in agreement, always leaning against Kingsley.
Jimmy thought, 'They're so in love!'
In the third floor VIP room, the atmosphere was lively.
A group of people were used to playing around, mostly childhood friends who grew up together. They usually messed around but knew their limits because their families were interconnected, and no one could afford to offend anyone.
But Kingsley was an exception; the Hawkins Family was too prominent.
Caitlyn was drinking gloomily. In just half a year, she had become much more melancholic. The carefree aura she once had was almost gone.
The Robinson Family's hotel business was barely holding on. She knew that it was largely thanks to Kingsley's help. Otherwise, she wouldn't even have the chance to drink here now.
As she was thinking, Lowell Thornton walked over, who was also very wealthy. Lowell had once been head over heels for Caitlyn, but back then, she was all about chasing Kingsley and didn't give him the time of day.
Now that the Robinson Family had hit rock bottom, Lowell thought he had a shot. He slid into the seat next to Caitlyn, handed her a glass of whiskey, and said, "I just got back from abroad and heard about your situation! Caitlyn, for old times' sake, drink this and I'll throw you a project."
He lowered his voice. "Then let's head to the hotel?"
Caitlyn held the glass, turned to him slowly, and after a moment, asked softly, "Do you want to sleep with me or marry me?"
Lowell laughed awkwardly. "I wanted to marry you, but I already have a wife who keeps a close eye on me. So, we can only hook up, but not too often, or she'll get suspicious. A few million dollars' worth of business for just a couple of nights together is quite a deal."
Caitlyn had seen plenty of guys like him. But for a childhood friend to say such things was a real shock. She lowered her eyes and smiled faintly. "It is worth it! But I'm not interested, find someone else!"
Lowell didn't expect Caitlyn to turn him down. He got angry immediately. "Caitlyn, don't be ungrateful! Do you think you're still the privileged heiress you used to be? How close is the Robinson Group to going under? And didn't you date Landon for years? Didn't you run away from marriage for him, chasing him to Boston, and in the end, he didn't want you? Do you still think you're valuable? You have to drink with me today."
Caitlyn splashed the wine on his face. "Watch your mouth!"
Lowell wiped his face, glaring at her, sneering. "What are you so proud of? You're just a woman Landon got tired of!"
Just then, Jimmy, Kingsley, and Amara came upstairs and ran into Landon who was there for a social event. After a few pleasantries, they heard the conversation in the room.
Landon was annoyed. He never thought of it that way. Even now, he was willing to cherish Caitlyn, just afraid of tainting her.
Amara moved, but Kingsley held her down, lifting his chin slightly. Following his gaze, she noticed Landon's livid expression. Instinctively, she stopped moving and glanced up at Kingsley, who responded with a gentle pat on her head, a silent reassurance.
Jimmy was the first to step in. He had organized tonight's event, not expecting Lowell to cause trouble as soon as he returned. Lowell had a wife but still wanted to mess with Caitlyn, truly ungentlemanly.
He went over and pushed Lowell away. "You've had too much to drink! Have your wife take you home!"
Lowell snorted coldly, "Jimmy, why are you helping her! What does she have now? She didn't get Kingsley, and she couldn't win over an old playboy's heart. Who else is willing to sleep with her besides me? Now, even as a prostitute, she'd be despised."
Jimmy closed his eyes and thought, 'Damn it! You'll regret it. Your companies are not in the same league as the Carter Group. If Landon wants to destroy you, it would be effortless.'
Jimmy didn't want to intervene anymore. At that moment, a cold male voice came from the door. "Why haven't I heard about this?"
Landon walked in. The dim lighting in the room made his profile look even more intimidating. In the business world, few had seen Landon with such an expression; he was always charming and pleasant.
Now, he had changed his demeanor for Caitlyn, even though they had already broken up.
Lowell slumped on the sofa, his mouth agape, somewhat in disbelief.
Landon gently unbuttoned his cuffs and rolled up his sleeves. It had been years since he last fought, but now he felt as impulsive as a teenager, grabbing Lowell's collar and landing a heavy punch.
Landon, once a thug, quickly overpowered Lowell, turning the fight into a one-sided beating. Blood stained the sofa as Lowell, used to bullying women, cried and didn't dare to fight back.
Caitlyn looked at Landon with emotionless eyes, as if he meant nothing to her.
Landon also looked at her, his throat tight. "Let's go!"
She refused.
But Landon grabbed Caitlyn's hand and forcefully took her away. As they left, he threw down a card, and Jimmy said annoyingly, "Thank you, Mr. Carter!"
Caitlyn was dragged away by Landon, cursing as she went. "You bastard! Where are you taking me? I'm not going anywhere. I won't sleep with you! Didn't you hear? I'm already someone you got tired of. What more do you want?"
"Don't say that!"
Her body was pinned against the hallway wall, her back aching from the impact.
Amara was a bit worried.
Kingsley, however, stroked his chin. "Landon is quite intense! Amara, do you like this kind of drama?"
Amara said softly, "Boring! I appreciate his work ethic more."
Kingsley, seeing the situation in the room, didn't let Amara go in. He watched Landon and said softly, "They can't let go of each other. Let's not interfere."
Amara bit her lip. "Landon is married!"
Kingsley smiled and said, "As a married man, he knows his limits. I think if he truly cares for Caitlyn, he wouldn't want to hurt her."
Amara looked at him for a long time and said slowly, "You know him well?"
Kingsley asked slowly, "Are you jealous?"
Over there, Landon cupped Caitlyn's face in his hands. His skin was flushed, probably from the fight earlier. He touched her face, his voice hoarse. "Don't talk about yourself like that!"
Caitlyn leaned against the wall, smiling lightly. Then she slightly tilted her head up. "What difference does it make if I don't say it? Landon, the whole of Seattle knows I'm someone you don't want!"
He stared at her and suddenly asked, "Do you want me to get a divorce?"
Caitlyn was slightly stunned, a hint of disbelief appearing on her face. After a moment, she smiled. "Are you joking?"
She had attended his wedding, but he only gave her a pack of tissues and went on with the ceremony. On the night she cried her heart out, he was having his wedding night.
In just a few short months, he was now asking if she wanted him to get a divorce?
What did he mean? He grew tired of his new wife and still found being with Caitlyn more satisfying? Caitlyn gave a bitter smile as tears involuntarily streamed down her face. She pushed him away forcefully, stumbling forward, entering any empty room she could find.
There was alcohol in the room. She grabbed a bottle and poured herself a full glass.
"Caitlyn!" Landon called out to her, his heart aching.
Caitlyn drank half the glass in one gulp. As she slowly put down the glass, she looked at the remaining golden liquid and said softly, "Isn't it just sex? That guy earlier offered a few million dollars to sleep with me. How much is Mr. Carter willing to pay? Let's set a price. I'll drink a bit more, otherwise, I'm afraid I won't be able to get in the mood looking at your face, after all, you're someone I despise."
"Caitlyn! Do you think I came to you just to sleep with you? What do you think of yourself?" Landon asked.
"What do you think of me?" Caitlyn retorted.
Caitlyn's glass shattered on the floor, breaking into pieces.
Her face was cold and beautiful. She questioned him, "Mr. Carter, didn't we date for three years? If not for sex, were you in it for love? I can't let you sleep with me for free. Is it wrong to ask for some benefits? In the past, I wanted marriage. Now that you're married, what else can I want but money?"
Landon fell silent, and he just quietly looked at her. After a long time, he walked to the liquor cabinet, took out a bottle, and placed it in front of her. He said, "Fine! I'll buy you for a night! One hundred million dollars! Drink half the bottle and come with me to the villa!"
Caitlyn's eyes welled with tears as she stared intently at him.
Landon's voice was slightly cold. "You don't want to? Weren't you just begging to sleep with me for a reward?"
Caitlyn sneered. "Why wouldn't I? I should thank you for the favor, giving me the chance to serve you!"
Landon handed her a glass of wine, and she drank it in one gulp. The spiciness burned her throat. In that moment, Caitlyn almost cried out loud, feeling so wronged.
But she didn't want to show weakness in front of him because once she did, she would lose. Anyone in the world could laugh at her for being a woman Landon got tired of, but he couldn't.
In front of Landon, she always wanted to keep the last bit of dignity. After three glasses, Caitlyn was drunk and leaned on the sofa, falling into a deep sleep.
Landon approached, looking intently at her sleeping face, gently brushing away the unruly strands of hair from her forehead. His fingers, injured from the fight, trembled slightly.
He called her name softly, but she didn't wake up. In fact, she didn't want him to see her in such a disheveled state.
Landon picked her up in his arms. As he walked out, Jimmy was waiting at the door, saying respectfully, "Mr. Carter, Lowell was out of line. Please don't hold it against him!"
Jimmy glanced at Caitlyn in Landon's arms, feeling conflicted.
It was clear that Landon cared a lot about Caitlyn. But why didn't Landon marry Caitlyn back then?
Jimmy couldn't understand.
