Chapter 40 Ethan, We don't have to do this
Charlotte remained silent.
Ethan watched her quietly for a moment, then put down his glass and stood up. "Let's eat!"
Charlotte's expression was cold. "Ethan, you don't need to do this."
When she said that, Ethan chuckled softly.
He walked up to her, gently pinched her chin, and whispered, "It's true! We don't need to do this, especially since you now think I'm a jerk! Charlotte, do you hate me that much?"
Charlotte stood straight, restraining herself from crying. It wasn't worth it for Ethan.
She stared at him and said softly, "It won't change the outcome whether I love you or hate you."
"Then you might as well love me. At least you'll feel a bit better." Ethan gently caressed her cheek, finding it hard to let go.
He had other women around him, including beautiful Chloe.
But Charlotte was different. She was someone he had restrained himself from touching for four years, but now he wanted her all to himself! Ethan leaned close to Charlotte's face and said seductively, "Why don't we negotiate terms now, and you stay here tonight?"
Charlotte's eyes reddened. In a calm tone, she said, "I have to go home tonight! And Ethan, if you want me to stay with you, you'll have to wait until my dad and Maria safely leave Syeattel. Otherwise, there's no need to discuss."
Ethan took a step back, sizing her up. He chuckled, "When did you become so tough?"
He was in such a good mood today that he surprisingly agreed. "Alright! As you wish! As long as you agree to stay with me, I'll let William and Maria leave Syeattel and return everything that belongs to the Russell family!"
Charlotte felt a bit relieved.
Ethan suddenly embraced her slender waist, resting his chin on her thin shoulder, and said very gently, "I'll buy you a villa in the suburbs. When I'm free, I'll come to keep you company, okay?"
Charlotte remained cold, but her attitude was not as sharp as before.
Ethan, intending to please her, whispered close to her ear, "Let's have a child! Charlotte, I want a little girl as sweet as you."
Charlotte felt disgusted! She thought, 'Lily was right; Ethan was schizophrenic! How else could he do such evil things and still act so affectionate?'
Charlotte loathed him, her body stiffening in resistance.
How could Ethan not know? He sneered, not caring much.
After all, she was in his hands, and he could slowly train her! Charlotte was pure, like a blank sheet of paper, and he wanted to write his name all over it.
Charlotte didn't stay long. When she left, Ethan personally escorted her to the villa's entrance.
Charlotte had a new set of villa keys in her hand.
"I'll drop the lawsuit tomorrow! Your dad and Maria will be fine!" Ethan smiled faintly. "Charlotte, I don't want to wait too long. Don't disappoint me, okay?"
Under the light at the villa's entrance, Charlotte's features were as delicate as a painting. She said softly, "When have I ever disappointed you?"
After speaking, she looked up at him. The once gentle and affectionate eyes no longer held their former joy, only resentment.
Ethan didn't want to look at them. He wanted to drive Charlotte back, but she refused.
"It's raining. Won't you let me be chivalrous for once?" He teased her.
Charlotte lowered her head and smiled faintly. "Ethan, I told you. There's no need for this between us." With that, she pushed him away and stepped into the drizzling night.
Ethan's hand was left empty. He watched Charlotte's retreating figure and suddenly had a hunch. No matter what means he used to keep Charlotte by his side, her heart would never belong to him.
Ethan didn't feel down for long.
He firmly believed that Charlotte was just a challenge to his masculinity. He had never loved her.
Never!
