Chapter 857 Nancy, Come with Me to Copenhegan, Our Child Will Be Born There
Nancy still felt like she was dreaming after she asked her question.
How did he come back so suddenly?
Grant paused, turned to look at the two of them, and after a moment, he slowly turned off the stove and walked over, putting an arm around each of them.
He must have smelled the scent of grass, so he asked her softly, "You went to the cemetery?"
Nancy nodded blankly.
But Benjamin nodded vigorously, "We did!"
Then he pressed his lips together and fell silent.
Grant knew what was on his mind.
He patted both of them and gently touched Nancy's belly. "Go change your shoes and wash your hands. Dinner's almost ready. I bought a lot of your favorite foods."
Nancy let Benjamin go first.
She stood there, watching Grant cook.
She thought he looked incredibly handsome while cooking. Just watching him made her feel happy.
Maybe it was because there had been so much going on lately, and the house really needed someone. His return made her feel at ease.
But she didn't plan to let Grant know about these difficulties.
Grant spoke softly.
He said, "There's a small technical issue with the project that will take about two days to fix, so I came back to see you guys for a couple of days."
The person behind him didn't respond.
He turned around with a soft laugh and asked her what was wrong. Then he realized something was off. "By the way, where's Octavia? Why isn't she here?"
Nancy dodged the question. "She felt it wasn't a good fit, so she quit."
She didn't want to offend anyone, especially someone who gossiped behind people's backs.
Better to avoid trouble.
Grant was a bit surprised. He thought for a moment and said, "I'll be home for the next two days. I'll find a new nanny for you. We can't do without one, and we shouldn't skimp on this."
Nancy said, "I know. I've already registered with the property management."
Grant didn't doubt her and continued cooking.
Nancy missed him so much that she couldn't help but walk over and hug him from behind, pressing her face against his back to feel his warmth.
"What's this about?" Grant laughed at her. "You didn't used to be like this."
Nancy wanted to say something but didn't. They weren't a young couple anymore. Too much had happened between them, and she couldn't bring herself to say anything too soft or coquettish. She just softly told him to keep cooking.
Grant said, "Okay."
Benjamin had originally come out wanting a loving hug.
Seeing them embrace, Benjamin's face turned red, and he quickly turned and ran away.
At dinner, Benjamin still couldn't help but blush and didn't say much. Grant gave him a piece of meat. "When you have a wife, you'll understand this is completely normal."
Benjamin responded with a nod.
He obediently ate the meat.
After dinner, Grant washed the dishes. Benjamin wanted to take out the trash, but Grant wouldn't let him.
"You were sick recently, right? Rest up. Now that I'm back, you don't need to do these chores. If you do, Nancy will definitely blame me for making you work without pay."
Benjamin laughed, looking excitedly at Nancy.
Sweat dotted his little nose.
Nancy sat on the couch, knitting. She softly told him not to mind Grant, saying he was just talking nonsense.
Grant laughed.
When he went out to take out the trash, he lit a cigarette at the door, holding the trash bag in one hand.
White shirt, black pants.
He looked sharp and handsome, not at all like a man doing household chores, more like a business elite.
After throwing out the trash, he finished his cigarette and was about to head back.
Near the community facilities, a group of middle-aged women were chatting. Judging by their appearance and attire, they were probably nannies.
One of them was particularly talkative.
"Look at that man! That's my former boss, Mr. McCall. He's good-looking, but I heard he lives off his wife's money and squandered all her savings. Poor Mrs. McCall, so young and stuck with a man like that!"
Grant stayed silent.
When did he ever touch Nancy's savings?
Octavia, not satisfied, added, "He even brought his illegitimate son home! Mrs. McCall has to take care of him. She says he's her brother, but he looks just like Mr. McCall! When that kid grows up, he'll be a real playboy, just like his father!"
Grant lit another cigarette and walked over.
He suddenly stood there, and the women scattered, except for Octavia, who was stunned.
Grant asked, "Why did you stop? With your talent for talking, you could bring the dead back to life! But you only got half of it right. I'm not a good man, but my wife has principles. She doesn't need you for a reason! Are you still working in this community? If word gets out about your behavior, who would hire you?"
Octavia was speechless for a moment before saying, "I was just guessing, Mr. McCall."
"Guessing gives you the right to spread lies?"
He added, "Nancy always speaks well of you on the phone. It seems her kindness was wasted."
Grant glared at her and then went home.
Back inside, Nancy was still sitting on the couch, quietly doing her own thing. Benjamin was curled up next to her, holding a book.
They looked like they were doing well.
But from Octavia's tone, Grant knew Nancy hadn't had it easy lately, and Benjamin must have helped her a lot.
Grant stood at the door and suddenly spoke. "Come with me to Copenhegan! Both of you! I'll find a school for Benjamin, and Nancy, you'll stay with me until the baby is born. Our child will be born in Copenhegan."
Nancy was surprised by his sudden decision.
But she wasn't a foolish woman. She quickly guessed his intention.
She slowly put down her knitting and asked softly, "Did you see her? Did you hear her gossiping?"
Grant nodded. He immediately asked her, "Why didn't you tell me?"
Nancy smiled faintly. "I could handle it myself, and I didn't want to burden you. Your career is just starting, and I didn't want to shake your confidence. Balancing family and career is tough, Grant. Are you sure?"
Grant's throat tightened. He was more than sure.
He took a step forward, walking over to her. His figure cast a shadow over her.
He blocked her light, but he also shielded her. He gently held Nancy in his arms, his voice trembling. "Nancy, from now on, wherever I go, I'll take you and the kid with me. And Benjamin too. I won't let anyone bully you."
Nancy wanted to say she wasn't that fragile.
But when she saw the tears in his eyes, she hesitated and then agreed.
She pressed her face against his firm stomach and said softly, "Okay. We won't be apart anymore. Wherever you go, I'll go too, Grant."
