Chapter 484 It's Over Between Us

The phone kept ringing. She hesitated for a moment but finally picked it up. But neither of them said a word.

They both breathed lightly, like they were scared to break the silence. Finally, Molly spoke up, "Everything in the apartment is still there. You can check it! If anything's missing, have Aria contact Clayton. We don't need to talk anymore."

Just as she was about to hang up, Gavin softly said, "Wait a minute!"

Molly lowered her voice, "Mr. Devereux, is there something else?"

Gavin thought for a moment and said, "Let's meet."

Molly gave a faint smile, "Gavin, I think your blind date today must have gone well. You probably have a girlfriend now! You hate me and want to get back at me because my mom clung to Andrew back then, right? Gavin, don't worry, I will never become that kind of person, never! And don't bother me either!"

Molly hung up the phone. She turned it off, took out the SIM card, and planned to have Clayton get her a new number. She didn't socialize much; Clayton handled all her work stuff. So changing her number wouldn't be a big deal.

On the other side, Gavin listened to the disconnected tone, feeling restless. He sat in his car, quietly smoking. Just then, his phone buzzed with a Facebook notification, and he quickly checked it. It was a new friend request. The note said Sarah.

Gavin stared at it for a long time until his eyes felt sore. Then he accepted the request.

He saw Molly again a week later at a mall owned by the Devereux Group. She was shopping with Amanda, who was carrying a ton of stuff. Even though it was only fall, she had bought two or three down jackets, clearly prepping for a trip.

Gavin was inspecting the mall and happened to run into them.

His eyes were glued to Molly, completely ignoring Amanda.

Aria noticed and immediately said, "What a coincidence!"

Gavin snapped out of it and asked softly, "Amanda, are you going abroad?"

Amanda looked at him angrily. But she didn't hide it and said directly, "It's Molly. She needs to relax and find some inspiration!"

"Are you going with her?"

Amanda replied, "No, Clayton is. He grew up abroad and knows the place well. Plus, he's gentle and considerate. I'm very comfortable leaving Molly with him! If they end up together, Nathan and I will be at ease for the rest of our lives."

Gavin's expression darkened.

After Amanda finished speaking, she was about to leave with Molly.

Gavin grabbed Molly's wrist, "Just a few words!"

Molly didn't want to talk to him. She gently shook off his hand, "We have nothing to say!"

Gavin grabbed her again, his eyes intense, "Please!"

Amanda looked at his hand and then softened, "It's good to clear things up! But Gavin, let go of her hand. It's not right for you to hold Molly's hand when you have a girlfriend."

Gavin reluctantly let go.

Molly glanced at the nearby coffee shop and said softly, "Let's talk there. I only have five minutes."

Gavin quietly sighed in relief. Then Gavin and Molly entered the coffee shop. Aria ordered coffee for them and asked Molly what flavor she wanted.

Molly moved her lips, "Anything is fine."

Gavin said, "Get her an iced cola."

Aria went to get the drinks, leaving them sitting across from each other in silence.

After a long time, Gavin finally said softly, "I'm sorry."

Molly's eyes quietly reddened. She had always felt sorry for Andrew and his family, but now Gavin was sitting across from her, apologizing.

Was it because he had played with her feelings? Or because she had found out his identity? Would he have never said it if she hadn't found out?

Aria brought the coffee and tactfully left.

Molly lowered her head and bit the straw, a subconscious habit whenever she didn't want to talk.

Gavin wanted her to speak, so he gently covered her hand with his. Her hand was cold.

Molly seemed startled and quickly pulled her hand away.

In that moment, Gavin felt embarrassed. He lowered his head and said softly, "Molly, whether you believe it or not, I didn't feel good after getting back at you. Consider this compensation." He took out a checkbook and wrote down a number. It was enough for Molly to live comfortably for the rest of her life.

Molly looked at the check on the table.

After a long time, she blinked lightly and said in a daze, "You don't need to compensate me! Breaking up is a normal part of relationships. Besides, I was very happy during that time! If you feel guilty, then don't contact me again! Let's pretend nothing ever happened between us. It's better for both you and Miss Hughes. I don't think she wants to know about our past."

Molly finished speaking and picked up her bag. She showed no hesitation and stood up to leave, but Gavin grabbed her hand, "Molly!"

Molly lowered her head, "Let go! It's over between us."

In fact, she was going abroad for treatment. The doctor said she needed to leave here and completely let go of her emotional baggage.

Gavin refused to let go.

Molly suddenly raised her eyes and looked at him, asking softly, "What are you doing? Gavin, besides the check, what can you give me? You have a girlfriend. Are you trying to use this check to make me your mistress? Didn't you hate my mother for being that kind of person? Do you want me to become like her?"

Her eyes filled with tears as she spoke.

Molly left resolutely, without looking back.

In this lifetime, she had only loved one man, Gavin. But in her life, there were things more important than love.

She had come a long way to get to where she was today, and she would never ruin what she had now for someone like Gavin. As for their conflicts, she had already repaid them with her emotions and her body!

Molly went downstairs to the car.

Amanda looked worried.

Molly sat down, leaned gently on Amanda's shoulder, and murmured, "Mom, I want to go abroad early."

Amanda agreed. She asked, "Let's ask Clayton! When do you want to go?"

Molly sniffled and said softly, "Tomorrow!"

Amanda was stunned. But she still respected Molly's wishes and communicated with Clayton, who readily agreed.

In the afternoon, Nathan rushed over from Copenhegan. Over the years, he had aged quite a bit.

He didn't know about the issues between Molly and Gavin, thinking Molly was just in a bad mood.

Amanda was cooking in the kitchen, while Nathan was watching TV with Molly. He was watching a cartoon on the TV and frowned, "How about we change the channel to a romantic drama? Isn't that what young girls like to watch these days?"

Nathan was eager for Molly to find a son-in-law. He even gave an example, "Gavin's blind date was successful, and he's about to get engaged!"

Gavin was getting engaged?

Molly stared at the TV for a long time before slowly saying, "Then congratulations to him!"

Amanda, who was in the kitchen, also heard Nathan's words and got very angry. Then she brought out the dishes, wiping her hands while humming lightly, "Come and eat! You're always talking so much!"

Nathan didn't know what she was thinking and said casually, "Why can't I say that? I think over the years, Chloe has always prepared gifts for Molly's birthday! Chloe is just awkward on the outside but soft on the inside. Chloe might have come to terms with it. We can't keep letting Molly avoid the Devereux Family forever. Besides, everyone loves Molly."

Just then, the doorbell rang and he went to open the door. From the door lock surveillance, he saw it was Gavin!

As he opened the door, he said, "See, Gavin came to see me knowing I was in Syeattel! Today, I have to get him drunk!"

Molly and Amanda wanted to stop him, but it was too late. Nathan had already opened the door. Outside, Gavin was impeccably dressed and strikingly handsome.

Nathan patted his shoulder and smiled, "Come on, let's have a few drinks today! It's cold, and a few drinks will warm us up. I'll have the driver take you home later."

Amanda spoke up, "I think Gavin has a lot of social engagements and might not have time to eat here. Right, Gavin?"

Gavin looked at Molly, but Molly pretended not to see him and continued watching TV.

Gavin smiled, "Amanda's home-cooked meals smell so good. It's been a long time since I've had them!"

Amanda gave him a sharp look and thought, 'What a thick-skinned guy!'

Nathan had already put his arm around Gavin's shoulder, warmly saying, "Don't listen to her nagging! Let's have a good drink today. Just don't go easy on me!"

Gavin smiled faintly, "Of course!"

As he passed Molly, he paused and said hoarsely, "Molly?"

Amanda was worried, afraid Molly would give something away.

If Nathan found out, it would cause a big scene. She didn't want to make their cohabitation public. Molly already had a hard time with her identity as Celeste's daughter. If people found out she had been with Gavin, her situation would only get harder.

Fortunately, Molly just nodded lightly.

Nathan laughed, "Technically, Gavin, you should call Molly 'sister.' She's a year older than you!"

Gavin's gaze was deep. He said softly, "But she looks younger than me."

"She stopped growing at 5'3. Amanda makes her soup every day, but it doesn't help. But a petite girl is good; she looks younger."

Gavin smiled slightly.

Amanda glared at Nathan.

Nathan invited Gavin to sit and found a bottle of wine from Molly's small wine cabinet to share with Gavin. They ate, drank, and chatted.

After preparing the meal, Gavin turned to Molly, who was still watching cartoons.

Gavin asked, "Why aren't you coming to eat?"

Molly didn't want to eat with him. She wiped her hands with a napkin and said lightly, "I'm full!"

Nathan was about to say something, but Amanda brought over a dish and supported Molly, "Young girls love snacks and don't like meals! Besides, she's not interested in your conversation."

Molly stood up, "I have a headache! I'm going to lie down for a bit."

Nathan immediately got worried. He quickly said, "Then go rest! Let Amanda give you some medicine."

Molly nodded and went to her bedroom.

Amanda followed her in. Molly lay on the bed reading a comic book. Many of her hobbies were as simple as a child's.

Amanda reached out and touched her head. After a long time, she said softly, "What does he mean?"
