Chapter 522 Lola, I Want to Marry You
Lola didn't answer right away.
In the dark, besides their soft breathing, there was the scent of her hair.
Johnny couldn't hold back anymore.
He kissed behind her ear, taking a deep breath, his voice rough. "Do you want to?"
Their bodies were pressed tight, the air thick with his masculine scent.
Eventually, they both gave in.
He held the back of Lola's head, kissing her deeply.
The sheets crumpled and then smoothed out again.
In the dim bedroom, they lost themselves in each other.
Late at night, Lola lay quietly on the pillow.
Johnny held her from behind, and after the passion, everything felt calm and tender.
Johnny whispered shamelessly in Lola's ear, "Did you like that? When your period's over, we'll do it again."
Lola hummed softly and teased him some more.
A satisfied man was always in a good mood; no matter how much she teased, he never got mad.
Lola was a bit tired. She nestled in his arms, thinking about Darren's illness, unable to sleep.
"Worried about Darren?" Johnny's voice came in the dark.
Lola responded with a hum.
In moments like this, she softened and was willing to share with Johnny.
She talked about Darren, his parents, and how she had brought him home.
Lola's voice was very low, and Johnny listened quietly.
When she finished, his face buried in her neck, he asked softly, "Lola, if I hadn't left back then, would you still have brought Darren home if you met him?"
Lola smiled faintly. "Probably! But I would have left more of it for you to handle."
Johnny's voice got even softer, with extra tenderness. "Then now, let me handle it, okay?"
Lola was silent for a long time, then said softly, "If you help, don't think you can stay."
"Fine! I'll move out when the time comes! But I don't believe you won't miss me, Lola, you'll get addicted to me."
Lola blushed.
Johnny seemed proper outside, but in private, he was very wanton.
Yet, she felt a bit moved inside.
Since she turned 20, she had handled everything on her own, including the law firm and Darren. She had never relied on anyone.
Because Johnny had left, she didn't want to rely on anyone again.
But he came back, and he said, ''Lola, leave it to me!''
Lola gently closed her eyes and pondered, 'I don't usually get emotional! Why do I make an exception when it comes to Johnny?'
They shared a night of intimacy. In the morning, Lola got up to wash up, the toothpaste was squeezed out, and the towel was ready.
She smiled faintly and thought, 'Johnny makes a pretty good housekeeper!'
Outside, the toaster made a crisp sound, followed by the smell of toast. Lola finished washing up and went out.
Johnny was sitting at the dining table, impeccably dressed in a white shirt and gray trousers.
Breakfast was a ham sandwich, milk, and a plate of fruit.
Lola wanted coffee, but Johnny wouldn't let her have any. "No coffee in the morning! Also, you need to quit your smoking habit; secondhand smoke isn't good either."
Lola took a bite of the sandwich. Her voice was muffled. "Then why don't you quit smoking?"
Johnny looked up, his gaze intense. "Do you want me to quit smoking?"
Lola didn't answer; asking a guy to quit smoking felt like something a wife would do.
She wasn't ready for that.
She bit into her sandwich and drank her milk silently, while Johnny just watched her. He suddenly said, "Last night was pretty good for me!"
Lola spat out her milk, right onto his face.
The room went silent.
Lola forced a smile. "Sorry!"
After a long pause, Johnny wiped his face with a tissue, then said slowly, "I'll tease you properly once your period is over."
Lola didn't want to respond.
After breakfast, she headed to the law firm. She had a trial in the morning and planned to visit Darren at the hospital afterward.
Johnny didn't bother her all day.
When Lola left the hospital, she saw Johnny talking to the director.
She didn't interrupt; she just stood far away with her briefcase, creating her own little scene under the tree.
Johnny glanced at her a few times while talking.
When he finished, he walked over to her.
Lola looked at him. "You seem to have a good relationship. The director isn't easy to get close to."
Johnny smiled faintly, taking her briefcase. "Just a favor from the past! Have you seen Darren?"
Lola nodded. "Do you want to see him?"
Johnny opened the car door, holding the top for her to get in, but his words were a bit jealous. "I'm not that generous; so I don't want to see him for now!"
Lola didn't insist. She fastened her seatbelt and said, "Take me to the supermarket! I want to make some soup."
Johnny didn't believe her, turning his head. "You can make soup? For Darren?"
Lola responded with a hum.
Johnny's long, beautiful hands rested on the steering wheel, considering. "How about we go together? I'll make it later! I'm afraid if you make it, Darren might get a stomachache."
"Am I that bad?"
"Maybe!"
Lola ignored him.
Johnny drove for a while and said softly, "Lola, you're actually the same as when you were a kid, still need to be coaxed and pampered. You seem troublesome but are actually quite sweet and easy to please."
Johnny laughed softly, quite pleased.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the supermarket, the same one as last time.
Their moods seemed different from last time.
Johnny placed a lot of things into the cart, and Lola complained, "How can we finish all this? And I don't know how to cook this kind of beef! And I don't like this brand of milk."
"It's for both of us. And I'll cook the beef, and the milk is for me."
After Johnny finished speaking, Lola muttered quietly, "Aren't you moving out in a few days?"
"Can't I come over to see you? I'll cook whatever you want, and if I'm in the mood after dinner, I can please you. Aren't you tempted?" he said it so openly.
Some young girls around were already giggling. Fortunately, Lola had thick skin, but she didn't want to be watched.
"Shameless!"
Johnny leaned in and kissed her lips.
After the kiss, he acted as if nothing had happened. "Let's go to the fresh food section and get a fish!"
Lola was craving fish, so she didn't fuss and followed him, picking and choosing along the way, just like a newlywed couple.
Johnny made most of the decisions himself, but every now and then, he'd ask Lola what fruits and snacks she liked.
They shopped for an hour and ended up with a ton of stuff.
Back at the apartment, Lola kicked off her high heels and collapsed on the sofa. "I'm exhausted! Johnny, don't ever expect me to go grocery shopping with you again! It's more tiring than a trial!"
Johnny started making soup.
He also sorted and put away the groceries, moving around like he was in his own home.
After finishing, he washed an apple for Lola.
"When we get married, let's hire two housekeepers, one for cleaning and one for cooking. If you want, I can do it, but then you can't expect too much from me in my career." He finished, his high nose brushing against hers.
Lola thought he was being ridiculous.
He had only stayed with her for a few days, and he was already talking about marriage?
She took a bite of the apple. "You're overthinking it! We're just temporary!"
Johnny smiled. "I told you, you'll get addicted to me!"
With that, he went back to the kitchen.
Lola leaned on the sofa watching TV, munching on the apple, occasionally glancing at Johnny's back. He seemed pretty good!
Except for the jerk things he did in the past, he was really a good man!
She sighed softly!
Johnny finished making the soup and also cooked a meal for Lola. He told her to eat first while he took the soup to the hospital.
"I'll go!" Lola didn't want to trouble him too much. But Johnny had already put on his coat.
He grabbed the car keys and said softly, "If I'm pursuing you, I have to show some sincerity. Lola, I'm serious."
Lola wanted to say something to brush him off but couldn't.
After a long while, she said thank you.
Johnny left, closing the door gently, leaving Lola alone at the dining table.
Dinner was sumptuous. Besides a fish dish, there were two other dishes and a soup, all light and nutritious.
Lola took a few bites and then became a bit dazed. Johnny always said she would get addicted to him; she thought she already was! Not just the physical pleasure, but more the mental enjoyment.
Johnny knew what she wanted and could give her what she needed. This feeling wasn't something everyone could give; Darren couldn't.
Lola felt a bit frustrated and wanted to smoke a cigarette.
But when the slender cigarette was between her fingers, she snapped it and threw it into the trash.
She still liked Johnny, despite his years of absence and their divergent paths. Her heart remained unchanged. When he returned, so did her heart.
When Johnny returned, it was already late. He ate the leftovers Lola had, cleaned up the dishes, and was taking out the trash when Lola came out of the study, her eyes slightly red. She said softly, "Johnny, you don't have to be so good to me, we..."
Johnny had a cigarette in his mouth, but it wasn't lit.
Obviously, he was planning to smoke outside. He took the cigarette out and asked gently, "What's wrong? Have you been crying?"
Lola felt uneasy. "No!"
Johnny walked over, reached out to touch her head, and whispered, "Lola, you don't have to be so strong. You're just like Natalie and Sienna, a girl in the family."
Just as Lola was about to say she was the oldest, Johnny kissed her. "I'm a few months older than you! I should take care of you."
Lola turned her head away. After a while, she said softly, "Where were you all those years?"
The emotions came too quickly. Lola was usually a very rational person, but at this moment, she couldn't hold them back at all. The more she felt for Johnny, the more she cared about the past.
Johnny looked at her red eyes, his Adam's apple moved slightly, but he couldn't explain. He could only pull her into his arms, kissing her hair and whispering, "I'm really sorry, Lola."
He thought, 'From now on, I won't leave again. For the rest of my life, I'll stay with the Hawkins Family, take care of the parents and the siblings. I only ask her for a chance.'
Lola only lost her composure for a moment.
She gently pushed him away. "Aren't you going to take out the trash? Hurry up!"
"Then don't cry."
"I wasn't crying!"
Johnny laughed softly, he bit her delicate nose lightly.
Lola scolded him, "Are you a dog?"
But he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her into his embrace, and kissed her red lips, stumbling to the sofa, busy unbuckling his belt.
Under the crystal chandelier, Lola refused.
Her face blushed and she huffed. "Shameless!"
Last night, they lost count of how many times they did it, and now he wanted more.
Johnny's face flushed a bit, obviously wanting it badly, but Lola refused. His shirt hem was already out, making the atmosphere a bit awkward.
He looked at her face and said softly, "Ms. Hawkins, I'm only 28! Men at this age think about it every day."
Especially when it came to her, he had no self-control.
Lola kicked him. "Go take out the trash!"
Johnny laughed good-naturedly, got up to straighten his clothes, and zipped up, winking at her.
Lola's face turned red.
He was such a jerk!
Three days later, Darren's surgery was confirmed. Lola arranged for his surgery and treatment abroad and personally accompanied him for 10 days.
After Darren's post-surgery condition stabilized, Lola returned to the country.
On the way back from the airport, she couldn't help but think of Johnny. They had agreed he would move out in half a month.
Counting the days, it had already been 20 days.
When she got back, the apartment should be clean, and Johnny and his things should be gone, right?
She thought of the morning she left, when she wanted to say something, but they were both too busy to speak a word.
In those 10 days, Johnny rarely contacted her.
She wouldn't call him in front of Darren either, and thinking about it, they hadn't spoken for over a week.
An hour later, Lola returned to the apartment. Everything was as it was. Johnny's things were still there, even a box of cigarettes and a lighter on the dining table.
Lola looked quietly, stepped forward and picked them up, gently stroking them.
If she didn't know before how much she missed him, she knew now. She longed for Johnny; she liked him living here.
