Chapter 840 Natalie and Clayton's Son: Chance Devereux!

Grant paused for a moment and nodded.

"Yeah, it's Jade's mom," he said.

Nancy stood in the sunlight, but she felt cold all over. An indescribable chill penetrated her limbs... she didn't even have a chance to struggle.

Jade's mother continued to shout, "You heartless people! My daughter is still in the hospital, and you talk about her like that. Have you no conscience?"

Nancy pushed Grant aside.

She walked up to Jade's mother, who tried to scratch her face, but the security guards held her firmly in place, preventing her from moving.

Nancy looked at her disheveled state and quietly said, "The fault lies with your daughter and Grant. Why are you taking all your anger out on me? It's impossible that she didn't know Grant was in a relationship. She works at Granatal Nexus Technologies Group. After Grant and I got engaged, it was all over the newspapers."

"So, am I wrong in what I said? Why don't you go after Grant instead of me? You just want my child to be lost or for me to get so angry that I divorce him, so your daughter can have another chance, right?"

Jade's mother felt guilty.

After a long pause, she said blankly, "Jade's leg is broken. Her life is ruined."

She had no other options!

She pleaded with Nancy to divorce Grant, "Ms. Walsh, you're smart and come from a good family. You won't have trouble finding another man. Please, give my daughter a chance. She only has Mr. McCall."

Nancy didn't want to listen anymore.

She was a woman, but she wasn't a saint. From beginning to end, she was the victim in this situation... she was just protecting herself and her child's interests in her own way.

She ignored Jade's mother, knowing that Grant would handle it.

She knew Grant wouldn't send Jade's mother to the police.

Because she was Jade's mother, and he felt indebted to Jade, so he wouldn't.

Nancy got into the car first, and Grant gave a few instructions before joining her.

Once in the car, he asked softly, "Do you want to go to the hospital for a check-up?"

Nancy turned her face away, "I just want to go home, take a shower, and change my clothes."

Grant instructed the driver to drive slowly.

When they got home, Nancy spent an entire hour in the shower, but no matter how clean she got, she could still smell the unpleasant egg white scent on her body in her dreams, and Jade's mother's harsh words echoed in her ears.

Half-asleep, she heard Grant on the phone.

It was about Jade's condition.

Grant's voice was low, "Okay, I understand. Find the best surgeon in Seattle for her, and the best rehabilitation hospital for her recovery."

Nancy lay quietly on her pillow, listening to him talk. She didn't get up to confront him.

Because she had already guessed the outcome.

A girl he had been physically involved with, if she had died, he would have been sad for a few months. But with her in this condition, he would probably feel guilty for years.

Nancy let him do as he pleased; she wasn't planning to love him anymore.

Grant finished his call and came back.

Even though Nancy had her eyes closed and maintained the same position, he knew she was awake.

And that she had heard his call.

Grant lay beside her, and after a while, he turned and gently held her, caressing her absentmindedly... it wasn't out of desire, just a need to touch her.

As he touched her, he started to feel aroused.

He kissed the back of her ear, "What did the doctor say? Is it true that we have to wait until three months into the pregnancy to have sex?"

In the darkness, Nancy opened her eyes.

There was no emotion in them, only disgust, but she asked in a calm tone, "Grant, do you smell the egg white on my hair? I feel like I didn't wash it off completely."

Grant's body stiffened.

Then, all his interest vanished, and he rolled over to the other side.

He knew Nancy did it on purpose. She didn't want to have sex with him; she wanted to disgust him!

He didn't answer her, instead saying, "It's late! Let's sleep."

But who could sleep?

Sharing a bed but dreaming different dreams, being together in appearance but not in spirit—that was them.

Later, throughout Nancy's pregnancy, Grant hardly touched her, and Nancy never approached him... every night they lay side by side, not even sharing a hug.

Eventually, Grant moved into the guest room.

He was polite about it, saying he didn't want to disturb her sleep, but Nancy knew the truth.

With her around, it was inconvenient for him to take care of his needs... their relationship had a barrier, and he didn't want to expose that private side of himself to her.

She agreed.

Days passed, and their relationship grew more distant.

When Nancy was six months pregnant, Natalie gave birth to her second child.

The whole family had thought it was a girl, so all the clothes and baby items were pink, but when the baby was born, everyone was stunned.

It was a boy.

Everyone was shocked, and amidst the confusion, the baby boy cried loudly.

Natalie looked at her son beside her, her eyes slightly wet, and softly said, "Let's name him Chance Devereux."

Clayton had been by her side the entire time she was in labor.

Now she was utterly exhausted.

He told her to rest, gently touching Chance's little head, and said tenderly, "Chance is a beautiful name! Natalie, thank you. Thank you for giving me a child."

Natalie closed her eyes and softly said, "I did it for myself."

Clayton smiled faintly, not arguing with her.

He gently covered her with a blanket, then placed Chance in the crib.

Chance had just had his formula and was full of energy, kicking his little legs and refusing to sleep. Suddenly, a foul smell filled the air.

Clayton was a bit bewildered.

Haven, who was nearby, covered her nose, "Chance pooped!"

Clayton took off Chance's little pants to check.

A smelly mess. He carefully cleaned it up... Haven, like a little helper, handed him a new diaper to put on Chance.

As Clayton changed Chance's diaper, Haven pouted.

She looked so pitiful.

It wasn't hard to guess what was on her mind. Chance had a dad, but Haven didn't.

Clayton looked at her, then gently finished changing Chance's diaper and covering him with a blanket... he picked Haven up, lifting her high so she could see Chance.

After a while, he softly said, "How about you call me Dad too, just like Chance?"

Haven hugged him tightly, her voice small, "Will Mommy be mad?"

Clayton patted her back.

His voice was incredibly gentle, "I'll talk to your mommy, okay?"

Haven clung to him tightly!

Clayton felt a warmth in his heart. He had wronged Natalie and Haven... for the rest of his life, he would make up for his mistakes and take good care of them and Chance.

The hospital room was filled with warmth, and Haven didn't want to get down.

Clayton kept holding her.

Outside the door, Gavin stood with some items, witnessing the warm scene.

He wondered if it was a good thing.

He knew Natalie hadn't fully forgiven Clayton. She allowed him to take care of her and the children... but she had no plans to reconcile with him.

They were just dragging things out, and Clayton had no complaints.

Haven saw him and ran over happily.

She crashed into Gavin's arms.

Haven was so happy, she whispered to him, "Uncle Gavin, I have a dad now."

Gavin's eyes welled up.

He glanced at Clayton, and to Clayton's surprise, Gavin didn't say anything. He just knelt down, picked Haven up, and walked in.

"Mom and Molly made some soup. They went to pray for the baby and will be here soon. You need to take care of things here."

As he spoke, Natalie woke up.

Gavin went to play with Chance, calling him a little trickster for fooling everyone.

Natalie mentioned the name, and Gavin said the Devereux surname was good, the family could afford it.

Clayton felt a pang of sadness.

He wanted to support Chance and Haven too, but Natalie always refused his money... he brought it up again, and Natalie softly said, "As long as it doesn't affect your life."

With Gavin there, Clayton didn't press the issue.

After Gavin took Haven away, Clayton walked to the bedside and softly asked Natalie, "What do you mean by not affecting my life?"

"Natalie, do you think I have any life outside of you, Haven, and Chance?"
