Chapter 500 Live Your Own Lives Well!
Molly didn't even want to dignify those shameless words with a response.
She lay on her side on the white pillow, Gavin's warm body pressed against her back.
She knew what he was after, but she wasn't bold enough to go there in his house. Still, his body felt like it was on fire, especially at night.
Molly turned to face him.
She whispered, "Do you need to hit the bathroom or something?"
"Are you worried about me?" He pulled her closer, gently hugged her, and then covered her eyes with his hand. "Sleep! We gotta get up early tomorrow."
Molly didn't think much of it. She rested her head on his shoulder and eventually drifted off.
Before dawn, Gavin woke her up.
"What's up?" Molly rubbed her eyes. "It's still early!"
Gavin got out of bed and started getting dressed.
He had taken a shower last night and slept shirtless. Now, standing by the bed putting on his pants and shirt, his tall and fit body made Molly too shy to look directly at him.
Gavin zipped up his pants, walked over to the bed, and bent down, placing his hands on the mattress.
He pinched her nose and said affectionately, "Today's the anniversary of Adeline's passing. The whole family has to get up early to pay respects. Traditionally, my dad makes breakfast, and Natalie's probably up by now too."
Molly had no idea. She nervously asked him, "Is it okay for me to be here?"
Gavin chuckled, "You're already sleeping in my bed, and you're asking if it's okay?"
Molly blushed and quietly got dressed. After putting on her sweater, her hair got caught in it. Gavin, feeling moved, kissed her and softly said, "I'll go help out first! You come out after you freshen up."
Molly nodded.
Gavin smiled at her again and left.
After he left, Molly immediately went to freshen up. Although she was nervous and flustered, she felt an indescribable happiness. What could be more important than being with the one you love?
Molly finished freshening up and went out.
The kitchen was bustling.
Andrew was making breakfast himself, with Natalie helping. She couldn't do much but loved to be around her dad. Gavin was also helping out.
Molly greeted everyone.
Andrew looked up at her, his expression very gentle. "Molly, you're up so early?"
Molly felt a bit embarrassed, nodded, and said she could help too.
But Gavin said, "Why don't you water the flowers in the yard? The kitchen is full of smoke and grease, not really a place for girls."
Natalie protested, "I've been here for a while, and you didn't say anything about that."
Gavin replied naturally, "You insisted on being here, and I couldn't stop you! Your future husband will pamper you."
Natalie pretended to complain, "Now that you have a wife, you don't care about your sister."
She made a face and pulled Molly outside.
Molly watered the flowers.
Natalie felt it was cold, and the tap water was freezing, so she mixed in some hot water for the flowers, thinking it would keep them warm.
This action was seen by Andrew. Andrew was furious, "How can you water the flowers with hot water?"
He was heartbroken, holding the flowers almost in tears. "These are Adeline's flowers. Today is her memorial day, and you're trying to ruin her flowers."
Natalie looked at Andrew. Molly also looked at them.
After a bit, Andrew moved the flowers to another pot, sighing, "I don't know if they'll make it! Natalie, if they don't, you're in trouble."
Natalie hugged his arm, looking up at him. "Dad, I'm Grandma's little flower bud too. Aren't I more important than a few pots of flowers? Grandma would be heartbroken if she knew you punished me. If you don't respect Grandma's wishes, you're being unfilial!"
Andrew laughed in exasperation, "Where do you come up with these twisted arguments? You don't study seriously and only learn this stuff."
Natalie didn't care.
She was very close to Andrew, snuggling into his arms.
Andrew sighed as he held her.
Molly watched, feeling a pang of envy.
When Andrew looked up, he saw the longing in Molly's eyes, just like when she was young. She longed for fatherly love.
It was fine to fulfill her wishes when she was a kid, but now she was all grown up. And she was Gavin's girlfriend, so it would feel a bit awkward if he hug her.
Andrew smiled faintly.
Molly felt a bit embarrassed.
Gavin finished helping with breakfast, came over to check, and then looked at Molly. "What's up?"
Molly shook her head. "Nothing!"
Gavin reached out and ruffled her hair, softly saying, "After we pay respects to Adeline and have breakfast, we'll head out."
Molly nodded.
At that moment, Chloe came downstairs. She was the last one in the family to get up. Usually, it wasn't a big deal, but seeing Molly up earlier than her made Chloe smile a bit awkwardly.
During the memorial for Adeline, Molly stood beside Gavin.
Andrew said a few words to Adeline, and Natalie secretly laughed, feeling he was being so mushy.
Andrew couldn't handle her, so he quickly finished, had his meal, and prepared to send the kids to Syeattel.
Natalie refused. She said she wanted to stay a few more days.
Andrew thought Gavin probably wanted some alone time with Molly, so he didn't object.
Andrew watched for a while and then called Molly to his study.
Molly was a bit nervous. Andrew looked at her and smiled gently, "What's wrong? Are you afraid of me now that you've grown up?"
He hesitated for a moment but still gently patted her head, just like when she was a child.
Molly obediently followed him in. Andrew went in first and asked her to close the door.
Molly closed the door, turned around, and saw Andrew pouring water.
Molly sat straight in front of him, feeling quite nervous.
Andrew sat behind his desk, looking at Molly he hadn't taken care of for a long time. After a long while, he sighed, "Nathan and Amanda have taken good care of you!"
Molly nodded.
After a while, she added, "I understand what happened back then."
Andrew smiled bitterly. He took out a cigarette, lit it but didn't smoke, his expression distant as if reminiscing. By the time he came back to his senses, the cigarette was half-burned.
He said softly, "We're still family."
He looked at Molly and said, "Gavin really likes you! His personality is actually like mine, quite stubborn. If he didn't truly like you, he wouldn't have brought you home, and he wouldn't have been able to convince us."
Molly listened quietly.
Andrew opened a drawer and took out some items, neatly arranged, clearly prepared in advance.
Two property deeds, a jewelry box, and a bank card.
Andrew said softly, "The two properties are in Syeattel and Copenhegan, both in prime locations. Plus, there's $20 million in cash. Consider this my gift to you! And this."
He opened the jewelry box. Inside was a set of ruby jewelry, looking very precious.
Andrew whispered, "This set of jewelry was given to Chloe by Charlotte. She usually doesn't wear it, but when Gavin brought you back, Chloe took it out, saying it suited you."
Molly sniffled softly.
Andrew knew she was feeling emotional, so he stood up and gently patted her back.
His voice was exceptionally gentle, "Chloe is too shy to give it to you herself. Please understand her if she's not very considerate."
Molly nodded.
She whispered, "Thank you, Andrew, and Chloe."
Andrew couldn't help but touch her hair and sighed, "You've grown up so much!"
After a moment, he came to his senses, "Go check on Gavin; he's waiting for you."
Molly walked out with the items. Gavin was already ready to leave, standing by the car smoking.
He was wearing a white shirt and gray trousers, paired with a black thin wool coat, looking sharp and energetic.
Molly handed the items to him.
Gavin put them in the car and touched her face, "What's wrong? About to cry?"
Molly didn't admit it.
Gavin looked up at the house and saw a figure passing by, smiling gently, "Go say goodbye to my mom!"
She immediately went upstairs.
Chloe heard the footsteps and knew it was Molly. She silently cursed Andrew. Then she quickly put on a cold face.
The door was open, and Molly lightly knocked on the door, "Chloe."
Chloe pretended to just notice her, looked up, and said indifferently, "Ready to go?"
Molly nodded.
Chloe looked down at the book in her hand, her tone even colder, "Tell Gavin to drive slowly. Take care of yourself. I'm busy here with a big family and Andrew to take care of. I can't look after you. You two take care of your own lives."
Molly kept nodding.
She felt like crying and laughing at the same time.
Chloe waved her hand, "That's all. Go on now."
Molly didn't move. Chloe looked at her, "What's wrong?"
Suddenly, Molly ran over and hugged Chloe without saying a word.
Chloe, being soft-hearted, felt like crying too. She couldn't even pretend anymore. She patted Molly and softened her tone, "Alright, Andrew has told you everything! Live well with Gavin. Once we set a date with your mom, we'll have the wedding."
Molly didn't say anything. She cried, silently holding Chloe.
She knew how much Chloe cared about what happened back then, but for Gavin's sake, she accepted her easily and didn't make things difficult. Even her pretense was endearing.
Molly didn't want to leave.
Chloe was silent for a while, then softly said, "If you feel sorry for me, live well with Gavin and never leave him."
She knew Gavin well; once he liked someone, he wouldn't change.
Her compromise was to get Molly's promise.
Molly tearfully agreed, "I will!"
Chloe wiped her tears and said hoarsely, "Once you're married, you'll be my daughter too. There's nothing to feel sorry about. We both need to forget those things."
Molly's eyes were red with sadness.
Footsteps sounded in the hallway; it was Gavin.
Seeing them crying, Gavin didn't interrupt and smoked a cigarette outside.
When Molly came out, he gently put his arm around her shoulder and whispered, "Wait for me in the car."
Molly nodded, leaning on his shoulder for a moment.
Gavin patted her and waited for her to go downstairs before entering his parents' bedroom. Chloe, afraid of showing her emotions, waved her hand, "Hurry up and go!"
Gavin couldn't help but laugh.
He sighed, "Alright, I'll have Dad come and comfort you later."
Chloe said, "I can comfort myself."
Gavin went downstairs and got into the car.
He looked at Molly beside him, her eyes still red. He took a tissue and gently wiped her tears, smiling, "You cried."
Molly turned away.
Gavin smiled, lowered the car window, and waved goodbye to Andrew.
As the car drove away, Andrew's figure grew smaller. Gavin gently held Molly's hand and asked, "Do you like it here?"
Molly nodded.
Gavin then talked about the Devereux Family, his parents, and Natalie.
Finally, he said softly, "My dad will manage things for a few more years, but eventually, I'll have to return to Copenhegan. It's not as bustling as Syeattel. Are you okay with that?"
Molly was willing, but she didn't want to tell him directly.
Gavin drove for three hours to another city.
They had a meal and continued driving.
They stayed the night in Lumina Bay City.
He had his secretary choose a hotel with a good environment and plenty of local snacks. After checking in, Gavin took Molly out to eat.
He held her hand, and they walked around and ate like any other couple.
They played until around ten o'clock, then went back to the hotel, lay on the bed, and watched a movie together.
Molly rested her head on his shoulder, smelling his pleasant scent. When the movie got scary, she snuggled into his arms, and Gavin kissed her. But they didn't have sex.
He whispered, "We have a full day of driving tomorrow."
Molly felt warm and tender inside.
And just like that, after goofing around, it took us four days to get back to Syeattel.
Gavin parked the car under Molly's apartment building. He brought all the things from Syeattel to her place, making several trips back and forth. Gavin knew how to take care of women, so Molly just followed him around empty-handed.
The neighbors saw Gavin and said to Molly, "Your boyfriend is handsome! When are you getting married?"
Molly pursed her lips and didn't deny it.
Gavin, carrying the last small box of sausages, gave a few to the neighbor and politely said, "Soon, within the next six months!"
After saying that, he used his shoulder to push the door open and entered the apartment.
Molly followed him, slowly closing the door, still thinking about the wedding.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Gavin put the things down, he revealed his true nature.
He pinned Molly against the door and kissed her, making her whole body hot. Her coat was off, leaving her in a thin silk shirt and a fishtail skirt.
Gavin kept kissing her, his voice hoarse, "Molly, you're so beautiful."
Molly was extremely nervous. She had a feeling something would happen, but it was too sudden.
Gavin had just returned to Syeattel, and she couldn't react in time.
Gavin's long fingers slipped under her clothes. After a while, he whispered in her ear, "You want it too, don't you?"
