Chapter 844 Just Like That, She Walked Back into Grant's World 2

Grant looked up from the dimly lit room, staring at the woman in front of him.

His wife, Nancy, who was six months pregnant.

Nancy was holding an umbrella.

As she closed it, droplets of water fell to the floor. It was only then that he realized it was raining outside.

When he looked up, the faint tear mole at the corner of his eye was barely noticeable, but now it was visible.

His voice was hoarse, "Why'd you come here? It's pouring out. How'd you get here? Did the driver bring you?"

Nancy slowly closed the umbrella.

She looked up at him, meeting his gaze. Grant's eyes were dark, but there was a hint of calmness.

After a long moment, Nancy walked over and sat down next to him.

Her voice was steady, "This morning, I paid the driver his final salary. The housekeeper, the cook, and the gardener are all gone too."

Grant's throat tightened.

Nancy continued, "In just two days, the company has fallen apart. You didn't try to save it, did you?"

"Grant, are you atoning for your mistakes? Do you think the wealth led you to make mistakes, to cause a girl's death, and now you want it all to disappear, is that it?"

Grant turned his head and quietly looked at her.

Nancy's voice was soft, "My father called me this afternoon. He wants me to return to the Walsh family... Grant, I came to ask what you think."

Grant's Adam's apple bobbed up and down. He reached out and gently touched her belly.

"Six months," he said.

He was silent for a long time before speaking in a slightly raspy voice, "The company's accountant calculated that if we file for bankruptcy, the money on the books can cover all the employees' salaries."

"As for you, I have some money set aside to ensure you and the baby can live well, even without me. You could have a good life."

Nancy's voice trembled slightly.

She asked, "So, you want me to go back to the Walsh family?"

Grant held her arm, looking out into the night.

After a long time, he asked her, "Nancy, will you wait for me? It might take three years, five years, or even longer for me to get us back to where we are now."

Granatal Nexus Technologies Group was his creation, and he had destroyed it with his own hands.

He wanted to rebuild the future.

He didn't know if the woman beside him, whose heart was shattered, was still willing to have him, if she was still willing to wait for him, to wait for a future that truly belonged to them.

The person beside him remained silent for a long time.

Grant thought she was unwilling.

He lowered his eyes for a long time and softly said, "Tomorrow, I'll arrange for you to go abroad."

Nancy loved the baby; she would never abort it and return to the Walsh family. He knew this better than anyone... So he asked her, asked if she was still willing.

He stood up after speaking and reached out to her.

He said, "I'll take you back."

But she remained seated, looking up at Grant, her voice steady with a slight tremble, "Grant, I also want to ask you, is your heart clean now? In the future you talk about, is it just us?"

Outside, the rain continued to fall.

Grant's heart was drenched.

He said nothing, just sat back down and let Nancy lean on his shoulder.

They sat quietly like that.

He repented for the past and promised her a future.

Nancy's voice was bitter, "Grant, I don't love you. I just think I might never love anyone else in this life. I don't want to change my current life, so... I don't love you."

Her words were disjointed.

Grant's voice was gentle, softer than the night.

He said, "I know, I know."

He turned his head and kissed her hair, holding her in his arms. They quietly embraced.

As the night grew deeper, he draped his coat over her shoulders.

Nancy asked softly, "Aren't you cold?"

He shook his head. "No. Are you tired?"

Nancy nodded. "Yeah, a bit."

Grant drove her home.

When they arrived at the villa, the security guards were gone, so he got out to open the gate himself.

Nancy felt a pang of sadness for him.

Grant got back in the car, saw her expression, and knew what she was thinking.

He leaned over and whispered, "I've been through tough times before... I can handle it."

He gently held her hand, his palm warm, while Nancy's hand was cold.

They didn't say they loved each other, but it was deeper than love.

Grant's reckless behavior had one woman who could understand him, comprehend him, and still choose to stay by his side.

Though she stubbornly claimed not to love him... at that moment, Grant found her endearing.

In that instant, he suddenly felt at peace.

He understood why Natalie fell in love with Clayton, because falling in love happens in a moment! When you're at your most vulnerable, you give your heart to someone.

He thought, his heart was now with Nancy.

He thought, she would keep it safe, hide it well.

He thought, as long as she was willing to keep it, he would never take it back.

After a few turns, the Range Rover stopped at the house. Grant checked the time.

It was already midnight.

As he unbuckled his seatbelt, he turned to her and softly asked, "Are you hungry? I'll make you some pasta."

Nancy didn't have much of an appetite.

But she softly said, "Okay."

He said okay.

After getting out of the car, he wanted to help her to the living room. Nancy smiled faintly, "It's not that bad yet. I can walk on my own."

Grant looked down at her.

His gaze was deep.

Nancy looked up at him, her voice trembling slightly, "The money you set aside for me and the baby, use it to start over! I have money."

"Besides, there will be many hard days ahead. From now on... we don't need to be so delicate."

She wanted to tell him, 'Grant, this is the biggest gamble of my life, you can't let me down!'

But then she thought, 'Since it's a gamble, how can you only expect to win?'

Under the streetlight, Grant quietly looked at her.

Finally, he gently held her fingertips, his voice slightly hoarse, "Then be careful walking. I'll go make dinner."

She said, "Okay," and walked towards the entrance.

Grant watched Nancy's back in the night.

The night was cool, his coat still draped over her shoulders. She was six months pregnant, but from behind, she still looked slender.

Even in her walk, you could see the grace of a lady, but she told him she was willing to endure hardships with him.

After a long time, Grant walked to the kitchen.

He made two plates of pasta and baked two cakes in the oven.

When he brought them to the table, he softly said, "Since we got married, I don't think I've ever cooked for you."

He cut a small piece for her.

He added, "I hope it's a boy. We'll name him Lance McCall. If it's a girl, I'll feel bad for her having to endure hardships with me."

Nancy ate delicately.

After a while, she softly said, "I'll take care of the baby! I'll take him to the amusement park, buy him toys and all kinds of treats."

"But Grant, you have to work hard to make money, to make sure we live well... I don't like sharing a place with others. At least, we need our own space."

Grant's eyes were a bit moist.

After a long time, he softly said, "Got it."
