Chapter 742 Tell Lola to Ask Me Herself
Lola lay with her face pressed against the pillow.
After a moment, she whispered, "Dad, I'm really tired. Can you talk to him in a few days?"
Frederick didn't respond. He just quickly packed up Stella and placed her in the small stroller. The newborn babywith wide open eyes, couldn't see far but just wobbled her little head.
Frederick couldn't resist giving her a kiss on the few strands of hair on her head.
Stella was different from other kids. She was born with a bit less hair, and it was deep golden color with little curls.
She must have inherited that from Charlotte.
Even though Lola had been forced into this pregnancy, Frederick still loved the child.
He looked at her for a long time before walking out.
Outside, Johnny was waiting. When he saw Frederick come out, he quickly approached, but the word "Dad" stuck in his throat. Instead, he asked, "How's Lola? Will she see me?"
Frederick didn't want to talk to him.
He paused and said, "Lola said maybe in a few days."
Johnny looked a bit disappointed but quickly said, "Dad and Mom are busy taking care of Lola these days. Angelina and Austin can stay at my place for now. I'm not busy this month."
Frederick agreed but added, "Maybe you shouldn't call me that."
Johnny didn't respond.
Frederick felt conflicted. They used to be like father and son, but now they were so distant. But what could he do? With a few kids around, they couldn't just cut ties completely.
As they were talking, Kingsley and his wife arrived.
They brought some nutritional supplements for Lola.
Amara went in first, with Kingsley following. He couldn't help but glare at Johnny.
Johnny had no status in the Hawkins family anymore. Staying here wasn't an option, especially since Angelina and Austin had already gone back to the villa.
He stood silently at the door for a while before leaving.
A week later, before Lola was discharged, she saw Johnny.
Charlotte had been taking care of her, but when Johnny arrived, she stepped out.
As she left, she whispered, "Johnny, don't upset her. She just gave birth."
Johnny's throat tightened. "I know, Mom."
Charlotte thought for a moment but didn't say anything more. She just turned to Lola and said, "I'll go talk to the doctor and finish the paperwork. We'll be home soon."
Lola leaned against the headboard and nodded gently.
After Charlotte left, Johnny's gaze fell on Lola. She didn't look well; childbirth had taken a toll on her, and it might take a year or two for her to recover.
Johnny's throat tightened. "Lola."
Lola looked at him calmly and said softly, "The baby is over there. You can go see her, but she's sleeping now. Don't wake her."
Johnny couldn't move.
He looked deeply at his former wife, the woman who had given him three children. He had been trying to win her back, since the day they divorced.
"Lola, let me take care of you. I won't do anything you don't like."
"The kids need their dad too."
Despite telling herself to stay calm, Lola couldn't help but feel a chill in her voice. "Where were you before?"
His eyes darkened. "I was wrong."
He still longed for her to give him a chance.
The atmosphere was tense. After a long while, Lola finally spoke.
She composed herself and said softly, "Johnny, I know what you're thinking. You hope that because of the three kids, I'll eventually soften. That's why you've been so attentive these past months. But Johnny, we grew up together. We know each other better than anyone else. Do you really think there's any chance for us? This is the best I can offer you."
Johnny's face looked worse than Lola's, who had just given birth.
He slowly thought what Lola said.
When he looked up again, his eyes were as gentle as ever. "Okay, I understand."
Lola knew he hadn't given up, but there was nothing she could do.
Since Stella was born, in her marriage with Johnny, she couldn't just act on her own impulses. She turned towards the crib and said softly, "Go see the baby."
Johnny said, "Okay."
He walked to the crib and looked closely at Stella. She was sleeping soundly with sweet breath.
"She's adorable."
Johnny couldn't help but look at Lola. "She looks a lot like you when you were little."
Lola just smiled faintly and didn't respond, making Johnny feel a bit more disappointed.
At that moment, Stella started crying.
Her little face turned red, and her small legs kicked strongly. Johnny couldn't help but pick her up and check if she needed a diaper change.
Johnny looked at Lola. "She might be hungry."
The atmosphere became a bit awkward because if she was hungry, she needed to be fed, and they were divorced. This topic was sensitive.
Lola had started breastfeeding on the third day after giving birth.
When Johnny mentioned it, she said calmly, "Bring her over."
Johnny carefully handed the crying Stella to Lola. As he did, their bodies inevitably touched.
He hadn't touched her in a long time, and even through the clothes, the contact made his heart flutter. He couldn't help but say, "Lola."
Lola gently held Stella.
She paused and said, "You should go now. We've said everything that needs to be said."
They were close, with their child between them. Johnny, feeling emotional, gently put his arm around her shoulder and leaned in. "Lola, please, give me another chance. I won't..."
He couldn't finish his words.
Because under his hand, herbody was stiff. She resisted his closeness completely.
Even after all this time, she still hadn't forgotten and couldn't let go of the days in Silverpeak City and Sunset City, nor had she forgiven him.
She still hated him for what he had done to her.
Johnny felt a deep sadness. He didn't push further and let go of her gently. "Feed the baby. I'll go now."
Lola didn't respond, waiting for him to leave.
Johnny took a few steps back and looked at Stella one last time before walking out.
In the quiet hallway outside the VIP room, his footsteps echoed. Suddenly, even the sound of his shoes was unbearable.
He walked to the end of the hallway, found a secluded spot, and shakily lit a cigarette.
He had quit smoking, but occasionally, when stressed, he would have one.
Thin gray smoke rose, and through the haze, Johnny's eyes were wet.
He didn't go back to the room, instead looking at his phone.
As soon as he turned it on, a major news alert popped up. At nine in the morning, a serious traffic accident had occurred on a certain road in Seattle, involving multiple cars. One of the vehicles was an emergency blood transport vehicle. Reports indicated multiple casualties, including a notable figure, the former president of the Hawkins Group, Frederick.
Johnny checked other sources, his face pale.
[Former Hawkins Group President in critical condition after car accident.]
[Reports indicate Frederick has a rare blood type, and the blood bank is running low. His life hangs in the balance.]
Similar reports were everywhere.
Johnny dropped his cigarette and immediately made a call. "Dr. Roy Murphy, this is Johnny. I'm at Wellness Oasis Hospital. Yes, arrange for the blood to be sent over as soon as possible. Don't tell anyone yet."
After giving instructions, he hung up and looked back towards the hospital room.
In the special blood collection room, Roy personally drew Johnny's blood.
He couldn't help but say, "Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal. There's always a stock."
Johnny knew. When Lola gave birth, his blood stock was almost depleted. Now Frederick needed a large amount of blood, and the distant supply couldn't help immediately, so they had to draw from him.
Bright red blood flowed from his body into the transparent tube.
Roy said, "That's enough! If we draw more, you'll pass out."
Johnny looked very palewith a faint smile. "Just a bit more. I'm afraid it won't be enough."
As he spoke, he reached for a cigarette.
Roy pressed his hand down and said softly, "I'll have the nurse bring you some milk later. You need to take care of yourself too. Stop smoking so much."
Johnny smiled.
After a while, Roy packed up the blood plasma, and the hospital sent it urgently to Frederick. Johnny was supposed to go with it, but then Kingsley called.
Johnny didn't answer. He knew what Kingsley wanted.
After three calls, he finally picked up, his tone cold. "Tell Lola to ask me herself."
Kingsley was probably stunned. After a moment, he couldn't hold back and questioned in a low voice, "Johnny, have you no conscience? My dad raised you all these years and never treated you badly. Even now, he still has a place for you in his heart. But Johnny, my dad probably doesn't know that the person he holds dear is a real ingrate."
"You don't need to provoke me, Kingsley. I said if you want the blood, let Lola ask me."
"Fuck, you'll regret this!"
Johnny hung up. When Kingsley called again, he didn't answer. About a minute later, Lola called. She asked softly, "Where are you?"
"On the way to the office. I have an urgent matter to handle."
Lola's voice became anxious. "Johnny..."
Johnny's tone was indifferent. "Let's talk at my office."
He hung up and turned off his phone.
Lola looked at her phone quietly for a moment, then started changing clothes and told the housekeeper, "I'm going out for a bit. Watch the baby."
The housekeeper, aware of Frederick's accident, was worried and silently blamed Johnny for being heartless.
Back then, Frederick had given him so much blood. How could he be so cruel now? They were still family, after all.
As Lola got into the car, Kingsley called again, asking what she had decided.
Lola lowered her eyes and said softly, "I'm going to ask Johnny."
