Chapter 232 I haven't had a private life for the past three years
Lola was super bummed out.
But when her parents took her to kindergarten together, she perked right up.
Frederick was behind the wheel.
In the back seat, Charlotte gently buckled Lola in. She couldn't resist ruffling her little head, her eyes lingering on her.
Lola was feeling herself. She knew a kid like her was loved by everyone.
On the way, she chattered to Charlotte about the kids in kindergarten.
She couldn't stop talking about a Johnny Flores!
Charlotte listened like it was the most interesting thing ever. It was her first time being a mom, and having Lola back made her heart swell, totally forgetting about her ex!
With his wife and daughter in the car, Frederick kept his eyes on the road. Only at red lights did he sneak a peek at Charlotte in the rearview mirror.
Today, she had her hair up, with loose strands framing her face, making her look soft and beautiful, especially with that delicate neck, which was particularly eye-catching.
Frederick couldn't help but stare.
When Charlotte looked up by chance, she caught his gaze in the mirror, a look that was all man admiring a woman.
She felt a bit flustered and a bit annoyed.
Frederick gave a sly smile, kinda teasing.
When the light turned green, he gently hit the gas. Half an hour later, they pulled up in front of a fancy private kindergarten.
Frederick got out and walked around to open the back door.
He looked at Charlotte, his eyes super soft.
Charlotte ignored him, unbuckled Lola, and lifted her out of the car.
Lola was on cloud nine today. She held her mom's hand and walked to her class, where kids were forming a line.
With her little face beaming, Lola waved. "This is my mom!"
She wasn't worried about anyone doubting her; her mom also had blonde hair and fair skin.
'They must all be so jealous.' she smirk, talking to herself in her head.
The kids around were definitely envious. 'Lola's mom is so pretty!'
Her teacher came over and took Lola's hand. Lola couldn't help but say again, "Carrie, this is my mom!"
Carrie Jenkins, not even 40, was super sweet.
How could she not get what the little one was feeling? She gently patted little Lola's head and said softly, "Your Mom is very beautiful!"
Lola's pride was through the roof. She decided she was gonna eat more at dinner today!
It was Charlotte's first time being a parent, and she was all in!
She politely chatted with Carrie about Lola, not even noticing when Frederick walked up beside her, let alone his hand on her waist, being a bit cheeky!
Carrie was pretty surprised.
The records showed that Lola's parents were divorced, but now they seemed super close!
Frederick smiled lightly and said, "Lola's mom was working abroad before. From now on, Carrie, you can discuss Lola's stuff with her. Here's her number."
Charlotte was a bit taken aback but the teacher quickly took the number.
Frederick was an investor in this private kindergarten. If he said working abroad, then it was working abroad. Whatever he said was gospel!
Lola held Carrie's hand proudly and said, "My Mom's name is Charlotte!"
Carrie lovingly patted her little head.
Charlotte, not wanting to mess up the routine, quickly waved goodbye to Lola. Lola, with her little backpack, walked away happily. Today was her best day in kindergarten.
Charlotte stood there for a bit.
Frederick smiled lightly. "Hop in. I'll give you a ride!"
Charlotte wanted to chat with him, so she nodded and got in the car.
The car door closed.
Frederick's eyes had that deep look. "Hop in the front seat. Easier to chat!" he said, opening the passenger door.
Charlotte didn't want to make a fuss over something so small, so she got in and sat down.
Frederick turned a bit, his gaze sliding over her long, fair legs. His voice was a bit rough. "Where to?"
Charlotte said softly, "Maple Grove Hospital."
Frederick lightly hit the gas, drove a bit, then asked softly, "Want me to come with you to see Mom?"
Charlotte was used to his boldness. She coughed lightly. "She's my mom, not yours!"
Frederick chuckled, "Then I'll call her Maria? But Charlotte, I've been calling her Mom for years, and she hasn't complained!"
"I complain!"
Frederick didn't get mad, just focused on driving.
After a moment, Charlotte said softly, "Frederick, I think we need to set some new boundaries."
He knew exactly what she meant.
Frederick stayed quiet.
At a red light, he grabbed a cigarette from the glove compartment, lit it, took a drag, and then slowly blew out the smoke, turning to look at her. "What kind of new boundaries?"
Charlotte looked at him. "Co-parenting Lola, but staying out of each other's personal lives."
Frederick flicked the ash out the window.
Then, he smirked. "So, you got a thing for Derek? He's pretty good-looking!"
Charlotte was annoyed. "Frederick, that's not what I meant!"
"Then what do you mean? You mean we can both date, fall in love, and sleep with whoever we want?"
Charlotte didn't want to argue anymore! She turned her face away, staying silent.
Over the past three years, Frederick's temper had mellowed a lot. If this had been before, he would've blown up and done something if she went on a date, but now it was different.
They were divorced.
Actually, Charlotte was right; they shouldn't meddle in each other's lives.
But he still loved her!
Frederick's tone softened. "Alright! I'll play along."
Charlotte was pretty surprised.
She had actually told Andrew there was no chance with Derek, but Frederick's words were too much. Was personal life just about dating, falling in love, and sleeping around?
He spoke first, and Charlotte didn't want to make things worse. They still had to co-parent, after all.
She said softly, "In a few days, I want to take Lola to stay with me for a bit."
Frederick put out the cigarette and smiled lightly. "Of course! You're Lola's mom; you can take her whenever you want, but her health is special. Don't leave the city!"
Charlotte nodded.
Frederick drove into the hospital, and when the car stopped in the parking lot, he stopped Charlotte. "Hand me your phone."
Charlotte was a bit puzzled but handed it over. Frederick lit another cigarette, held it in his mouth, and then entered over a dozen phone numbers into her phone.
The doctor in lab's, the emergency doctor's, a psychologist's, the blood bank manager's, and the kindergarten teacher's and principal's.
After entering them, he handed the phone back to her, and Charlotte looked at it, a bit lost in thought.
Frederick said softly, "Charlotte, I haven't had a personal life these past three years! Even the time I think about you is very limited. Often, when I think of you late at night, one call comes, and I have to get dressed and rush to the lab because Lola is there."
