Chapter 619 Kingsley, Can You Give Me Some Time, Please?
"He helped me!" Amara shot a look at him. "Kingsley, you have no idea how grateful I am to Landon. You've had it easy your whole life and never known real desperation, so you can't possibly get what he means to me..."
Before she could finish, Kingsley cut her off, "You don't need to say any more!"
Inside the car, the only sound was their breathing.
Amara rubbed her temple gently, her voice raspy. "Let me out of the car!"
Kingsley stared straight ahead, his tone a bit chilly. "I'll take you home."
He started the car.
They drove in silence for about ten minutes before Amara noticed they weren't heading towards her place. She turned to him and asked, "Where are you taking me?"
Kingsley didn't answer. He picked up his phone, dialed a number with one hand, and said casually when it connected, "Hailey, Amara's had too much to drink. I'm taking her to my place for the night."
After a brief response from the other end, Kingsley hung up.
Amara's voice tightened. "I'm not going to your place!"
Kingsley kept his eyes on the road, ignoring her. The car passed through several streets and finally stopped in front of a villa. The black wrought-iron gate slowly opened, and the white Bentley drove in.
The car parked, and Kingsley sat quietly for a couple of minutes before turning to Amara.
She raised her eyes to look at the villa in front of her. It was luxurious and spacious.
She could tell that such a villa was rare in Syeattel, and even ordinary millionaires couldn't afford to live here. If she just said a few nice words to Kingsley and left the Carter Group, she could live a life of luxury in such a villa for the rest of her days. It was very tempting!
But Landon was right; only what she truly possessed was genuinely hers.
She and Kingsley were worlds apart. Relying on him for everything, she would live by his moods without any family support.
Amara turned slightly and said softly, "Landon will return to Bostan next year. He promised that if I secure the Ascend Global Group deal, I would get one percent of the shares. Kingsley, this is very important to me."
By saying this, she was indeed leaving room for both of them.
Landon had been a benefactor to her, but she knew she had always liked Kingsley.
She just hoped he could understand her situation.
Kingsley gently stroked the steering wheel and said calmly, "What he can give you, I can too, even more! Amara, I'm just asking you to resign, not to betray him. Is that so hard?"
Amara didn't respond.
Given their current relationship, she certainly wouldn't make such a decision because of him.
It was late, and Amara didn't want to argue with him. So she lowered her stance. "Open the car door; I'm a bit tired."
Kingsley looked over at her. She had probably been drinking and looked more enticing than usual. He couldn't help but gently touch her face.
Amara pushed his hand away, a bit annoyed. "Didn't you just say we were just hooking up?"
Kingsley chuckled.
He leaned in and kissed her even harder. "The way you look right now makes me want to kill you!"
Amara sneered. "Feeling's mutual!"
Kingsley got out of the car, walked around to her side, and scooped her up.
Amara had been drinking, and they had argued. Both were angry, but the chemistry between them was undeniable. For three years, neither had been with anyone else, and last night they hooked up again. So, when Kingsley carried her to the bedroom, Amara, though surprised, just wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered, "I can't take birth control pills anymore."
Kingsley lifted himself to look at her, his eyes dark with desire.
After a moment, he reached into the drawer and took out a condom. Amara felt embarrassed and gently closed her eyes.
Kingsley kissed her passionately. As their passion peaked, the antique clock downstairs slowly struck twelve, heavy and deep.
A new day had begun, and it was Kingsley's birthday.
He kissed her and murmured, "Amara, today is my birthday. Can we not be cold to each other for now?"
Amara suddenly hugged him tightly. She just held him. After making love several times, Kingsley just held her tightly.
When their sweat cooled, he kissed behind her ear. "I'll carry you for a quick rinse."
Amara murmured, "I want to take a bath."
Kingsley disagreed. "No! You've been drinking!"
Amara didn't argue.
After they cleaned up and changed into robes, there was a cart in the bedroom with a cake, a bottle of champagne, and two flutes.
"I had it prepared in advance." Kingsley hugged Amara from behind and whispered, "You don't like living in an apartment, so I prepared this place. Amara, move in with me! I can arrange for someone to take care of Hailey and Billy, and Jesse can go to the same daycare as Austin. Austin is my sister's youngest son."
Kingsley didn't mention Landon.
But Amara could tell that all of this was contingent on her leaving the Carter Group.
She whispered, "Didn't we agree not to talk about this today?"
Kingsley paused and didn't continue. He hugged her and lit three candles. When he made his wish, he whispered in her ear that he wanted to marry Amara.
Amara's heart fluttered. She turned her head slightly and whispered, "Kingsley, can you give me some time?"
He smiled faintly. "Alright!"
Later, they ate the cake and sipped a little champagne.
On a cold winter night, they were passionately intimate again.
In the early morning, Amara woke up to his handsome face, her head resting on his firm arm as she looked up at him.
The Hawkins Family had good genes; he was incredibly handsome. Amara couldn't help but gently trace his chiseled features with her fingers, thinking how nice it would be if they didn't argue.
Hailey had told Amara she should seriously consider Kingsley.
Amara wanted to, but it was clear they were on different pages. He wanted her to drop everything and stay by his side, while she needed to secure the Ascend Global Group project. With such an impressive achievement, her credentials would be solid wherever she went. Plus, it would also repay Landon's kindness.
Amara felt a bit more relaxed.
Kingsley opened his eyes and silently watched her. Amara felt a bit embarrassed and made an excuse. "I'll get up first."
His hand caught her under the covers. "Stay with me a little longer."
"Don't you need to go to the company?"
"Today is my birthday! You should take the day off too." He looked at her intently.
Amara knew that if she didn't take the day off today, he probably wouldn't let her go. Besides, after last night's unpleasantness, she didn't want things to get too tense, so she agreed. "I'll get my phone."
Kingsley reached out and handed it to her.
He rolled over and kissed behind her ear, mumbling, "Call Landon and tell him you're spending the day with me."
Amara thought he was being childish and patted him. "Let go of me so I can talk properly."
Kingsley propped himself up on one arm, his eyes clear.
Amara softened her voice. "Didn't you say we wouldn't argue for now, Kingsley? Let me handle this, okay?"
He let her go.
Amara wrapped herself in a robe and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to make the call. She started by asking about Landon's well-being and then inquired about the progress of the Ascend Global Group deal. Finally, she mentioned taking the day off.
Landon guessed the reason and just told her to have fun, assuring her he would handle the Ascend Global Group.
Amara hung up the phone and turned around. "I got the day off! Kingsley, what do you want for your birthday? I'll go buy it for you."
He walked over, lowered his head to kiss her, and with one hand, loosened her robe.
Meanwhile, Landon awoke with a pounding headache, realizing he had drunk too much the night before. He found himself in the familiar villa he had given Caitlyn, lying in the bed they once shared, but she was nowhere in sight.
Landon looked at the bedside table, wanting a cigarette, when the door opened and Caitlyn walked in. In the cold weather, she was wearing a gold sequin strap dress, looking very sexy.
Landon lit a cigarette, took a puff, and exhaled a smoke ring. "Wearing that in the dead of winter! Are you seeing another man?"
Caitlyn sneered, "That's none of your business! If you're done sleeping, get out. Don't come here drunk again. We've broken up, and I don't need to serve you anymore."
Landon looked up, his gaze deep. He remembered Amara saying that he cared about Caitlyn. He didn't want to believe it; he thought they were just having fun and, at most, were just sex partners.
He turned slowly and extinguished the cigarette. "If you don't have a lover, should we give it another try?"
Caitlyn stared at him.
After a while, she sneered. "Sorry, Mr. Carter, I do have a lover!"
Landon was slightly stunned, then spoke calmly after a long pause, "Really? Sorry, my mistake!"
He was quite the gentleman, immediately getting up to wash and leave.
The driver had been waiting downstairs early. Seeing him come down, he quickly opened the car door. "Mr. Carter, Amara reminded you that you have an important meeting at nine this morning."
Landon got into the car and fastened his cufflinks. "Got it!"
As they left, he glanced upstairs. Caitlyn was standing on the second floor, quietly watching. The driver noticed and couldn't help but comment, "I think Ms. Robinson has feelings for you."
Landon just smiled, knowing exactly what Caitlyn was thinking.
If he had said he would marry her, she would have probably thrown herself into his arms. It was because he still wasn't willing to give her a commitment that she told him to leave. It was just as well; with time, she would eventually meet someone better. He was just a fleeting chapter in her life.
Kingsley's birthday party was held at the Hawkins Mansion.
Originally, Amara didn't want to attend. She and Kingsley weren't that close, even though they had a child together and had made love again.
But Hailey called, saying that the Hawkins Family had come early in the morning to take her and Jesse to the Hawkins Mansion.
Amara was worried about Jesse, so she naturally had to go.
But she was kept in bed by Kingsley for most of the day, and it wasn't until four in the afternoon that he let her go. Just thinking about the past day and night made Amara blush.
Rebecca had arranged for a row of haute couture dresses and matching jewelry to be sent over for her to choose from.
As the girlfriend of the president of the Hawkins Group, Amara's attire for the evening couldn't be casual. She chose a blue feathered haute couture dress and a set of diamond jewelry. She let her hair down, styled it in soft waves that cascaded down to her waist, creating an overall look that was both delicate and feminine.
Kingsley, having changed into his clothes, came over and looked at Amara in the mirror. After a moment, he walked over, hugged her from behind, and slipped a diamond ring onto her ring finger.
Kingsley spoke softly, "Wear this for now, okay?"
Amara looked down at the ring, her heart stirred as she took it off. It was indeed the inscribed ring she had seen in the apartment.
Kingsley held her, his voice hoarse. "Amara, let's start over."
