Chapter 305 Are You that Desperate for a Man
A week later, Charlotte hit up the premiere.
She skipped the red carpet and snuck in through the back.
She didn't expect to bump into someone she really didn't wanna see.
It was Brenda!
In no time, Brenda had dropped a ton of weight and looked super worn out.
The light pink dress she had on made her look even more frail.
She was with some dude in his 30s, who seemed pretty decent.
Charlotte squinted, feeling like she'd seen him somewhere before.
Just then, Melanie rushed over, all respectful to the guy.
Charlotte remembered—this dude was Katherine's ex-hubby, Dennis.
Seeing Brenda clinging to his hand made her wanna hurl.
Melanie tried to play nice with everyone. "Mr. Scott, this is Ms. Russell from Vertex Innovations Group."
Dennis extended his hand to Charlotte, all gentleman-like. "Ms. Russell and I go way back."
Charlotte wanted to blow him off.
But she knew Andrew was digging up dirt on this guy, so she faked a polite smile and gave him a light handshake.
Dennis stared at Charlotte's face and said, "Ms. Russell, with your looks, it's a shame you're not a star!"
He turned and lightly pinched Brenda's cheek. "She's prettier than your sister!"
He treated Brenda like some obedient pet.
Even though Brenda wasn't into it, she still played along, "You're right!"
Dennis patted her and gave her a look.
Across from them was a guy in his 40s, someone Dennis wanted to do business with.
Brenda immediately went over and latched onto the guy's arm.
In the entertainment biz, this kinda thing was pretty common!
Melanie was used to it.
As a star of her status, she didn't need to do that; at most, she just had to keep Dennis happy. She then chimed in with a few flirty words.
Charlotte gave her a blank look and headed to the restroom.
Melanie felt a bit awkward and forced a smile. "Ms. Russell doesn't mix in the entertainment industry; she's different from us!"
Charlotte went to the restroom, where a sign read "Closed for Cleaning."
She was about to head to the second floor when a cleaner came over and said, "Who put up the sign?" Then she took it down.
Charlotte walked in.
Inside the restroom, two folks were screwing loudly.
Brenda's light pink dress was hitched up to her waist, and her whole body was shaking.
The guy was having a good time on top of her.
Charlotte was stunned.
The guy quickly finished, patted Brenda's head, and left.
Charlotte stepped outside.
Two bodyguards immediately approached. "Ms. Russell, you good?"
Charlotte shook her head.
Just then, Brenda came out, adjusting her clothes. Her face was flushed from the action, looking better than before.
She called out to Charlotte, "Can we talk?"
Brenda pressed her lips tightly together, stubbornly staring at Charlotte with jealousy in her eyes. She envied everything Charlotte had!
"You look down on me?" Brenda asked.
Charlotte looked up, her gaze meeting Brenda's in the mirror.
Brenda's eyes were filled with malice. "Yeah, I used to be a delinquent! But was that my fault? I was taken to the mountains; do you know who my first man was? It was the guy who raised me. I finally had a chance to change my fate! But you ruined everything!"
Charlotte smiled faintly. "You mean using your looks to mess around with Frederick, wrecking his marriage as a side chick?"
She wasn't gonna feel sorry for Brenda.
Brenda was just like Katherine deep down.
They only felt sorry for themselves, even if it meant screwing over others.
Brenda laughed, her eyes a bit wet. "Since I didn't take the $200,000, Frederick would've softened eventually. But you're ruthless. If it weren't for Robert tempting me, how could I have easily been with someone else?"
She thought she could win over Robert who wasyoung and loaded.
Charlotte turned off the faucet and smiled lightly. "Yeah! I did it on purpose!"
Charlotte didn't want to deal with her any longer and walked out of the restroom.
Outside, Frederick was leaning against the wall, slowly smoking.
The light cast on his handsome features made him look noble and attractive, but he had no expression.
Charlotte paused.
She was a bit surprised to see him there. She wanted to say something, but in the end, she left without a word.
Brenda chased after her.
She saw Frederick and was stunned. "Mr. Hawkins."
Frederick's tone was cold and indifferent. "Stay away from Charlotte from now on! Otherwise, I can't guarantee what'll happen to you."
Brenda was dumbfounded. 'Is he protecting Charlotte? Aren't they divorced? Isn't their relationship bad recently?'
Frederick left.
Brenda caught up to him, her voice trembling slightly. "I'm being controlled by Dennis. I know a lot about him. I can get you the evidence you need!"
Frederick frowned.
Brenda's voice softened. "Mr. Hawkins, I just want a chance to turn over a new leaf! Once this is over, I'll leave Syeattel and never bother you again!"
As she spoke, she gently lifted her skirt.
Her frail waist was covered in bruises, and her thighs were dotted with numerous needle marks.
Brenda's lips quivered. "I thought he would treat me well! But staying with him will get me killed. Mr. Hawkins, for Katherine's sake, please save me."
She pulled out a photo from her phone.
It was a picture of Frederick and Katherine when they were in their twenties.
Frederick quietly looked at the photo.
Katherine was dead, and seeing it now, even though the youthful feelings were gone, it still brought a sense of nostalgia.
Charlotte didn't stay for the movie and went straight back by car.
She made a call to Andrew while in the car.
Unexpectedly, Andrew was also in Syeattel, and he was there for Dennis.
Andrew sensed Charlotte's apprehension.
His voice was low. "Dennis is quite the womanizer. We've already started arranging for someone to get close to him. Once we have the evidence, we'll lock him up for life."
Charlotte felt slightly relieved.
When she returned to the villa and got out of the car, Frederick's car followed closely behind.
Charlotte leaned against the car door, looking at him in the night.
After a moment, she said calmly, "It's quite late. Come during the day next time."
Frederick's voice carried a hint of fatigue. "I just got back from a business trip to Boston and wanted to see Lola."
But now that he mentioned wanting to see the child, she couldn't say much. "Keep your voice down; Lola might be asleep!"
They walked into the villa.
As soon as they entered, they saw a piano in the living room, and Frederick was slightly taken aback.
He asked, seemingly casual. "You moved the piano over?"
Frederick walked over, gently touching the black and white keys, his expression unreadable.
Charlotte watched quietly.
This piano held many memories for her and Frederick, but he didn't remember. She felt a pang of sadness and said, "I'll go upstairs first."
At that moment, her phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number, but she answered it without thinking much.
It turned out to be Edward Jenkins, the star from the private party that night, who somehow got Charlotte's number.
Edward said he had just seen her and didn't get a chance to talk before she left.
Charlotte casually responded and hung up the phone.
As soon as she hung up, Frederick pinned her down.
Her slender body was pressed against the piano.
The piano trembled, emitting a mournful sound.
Frederick looked down at Charlotte, his voice low and dangerous. "Charlotte, do you like those young boys?"
Charlotte felt both ashamed and angry. "It's none of your business! Frederick, let go of me!"
He didn't let go.
He didn't know why, but he was very angry.
Not only did he not let go, but he also gently caressed her body with his long fingers, then firmly unbuttoned her dress. "Ms. Russell, are you so desperate for a man? Can that young boy satisfy you? How about we solve this for each other? We've done it countless times, after all. Even if you don't like me, you must like my body, right? I don't mind if you use me as a substitute."
He even maliciously whispered in her ear, "Turn off the lights, and you can call me Frederick! Imagine I'm him."
He knew he shouldn't be like this. Her rejection last time had severely hurt his pride.
He really came to see Lola tonight, but hearing Edward flirt with her made him furious. "Do you like attracting men that much?"
Charlotte was both ashamed and angry.
She didn't dare to shout, fearing Lola would wake up and come downstairs to see them.
Frederick unbuttoned her dress completely.
He licked and kissed her chin, coaxing, "How did he serve you before? Tell me, I won't do worse than him."
Even as he asked, his long fingers were already slipping under her dress.
There was a large mirror on the side of the piano. If she turned her head, she could see her body being manipulated and played with in a twisted angle.
Frederick kissed her, his voice hoarse. "Ms. Russell, do you want the maids or bodyguards to come in and see you like this? Do you want to see what you look like now?"
Charlotte didn't want that at all!
Frederick picked her up and brought her in front of the mirror, making her look at her own disheveled state.
"You're aroused! And you say you don't want me! Who else but me can make you like this?"
Charlotte's breath was erratic.
She turned around in his arms, her body pressed against the mirror. She tilted her slender neck and sneered. "Sorry, I'm not that desperate for a man!"
