Chapter 530 Gavin, You're Going to Be a Dad!
In the evening, a sleek black car rolled up to the Hawkins Mansion and came to a stop. Out stepped a dashing young man—Kingsley.
He hustled into the hall and asked the housekeeper, "Where's my dad?"
The housekeeper replied, "He is in the study upstairs!"
Kingsley nodded and headed up the stairs.
In the study on the second floor, Frederick was playing chess with an old friend, looking pretty pleased with himself.
Kingsley called softly from the doorway, "Dad!"
Frederick saw the look on Kingsley's face and knew it was serious. He put away the chess pieces and smiled lightly. "Lloyd, let's pick this up another day!"
Lloyd West, catching the hint, stood up with a smile. "Looks like Kingsley's got something important. I'll head out!"
Even though Kingsley was in a rush, he still walked Lloyd downstairs for Frederick.
Back in the study, Frederick invited his son to sit down. "What's the rush, Kingsley? This isn't like you."
Kingsley slowly took a seat.
After a moment, he carefully began. "Dad, have you heard about the Wealth Management Group?"
Frederick nodded. It was Johnny's investment company.
Kingsley was quiet for a bit, then said softly, "Dad, in just two months, the Wealth Management Group has pulled in a ton of capital! Most of it is from overseas, and now they're investing in a bunch of companies in Syeattel!"
Frederick took a sip of water.
After a while, he looked at Kingsley. "Are you worried he's getting too powerful?"
"Dad! He already is!"
Frederick put down his cup. "Kingsley, you're not usually one to get rattled. Are you afraid the Wealth Management Group will outshine the Hawkins Group?"
Kingsley said seriously, "Normally, having another Wealth Management Group would be good for us! But Dad, Johnny's going nuts right now. He's working like a madman, and I don't know what he's up to, but this isn't normal!"
Frederick's expression grew more serious.
After a moment, he asked, "Are you saying he's doing this for Lola?"
Kingsley's silence conveyed everything.
Frederick was quiet for a long time, then softly said, "I get it."
Kingsley's Adam's apple bobbed, and he squinted slightly. "I think Gavin's gonna be the first to get hit! He's currently up against the Hughes Family, and because of our two families, no one in Syeattel dares to step in! But Johnny's different; he wants to be with Lola, and he'll definitely use this! With all that capital, he just needs to back the Hughes Family, and Gavin's efforts over the past six months will be for nothing. If we don't want him to fail, the Hawkins Family will have to step in, or Lola will have to give in to Johnny."
Frederick chuckled and scolded, "You're really thinking ahead for him!"
As an elder, he was always more composed.
Johnny was someone he had mentored, and Frederick knew his capabilities better than anyone, but this was still surprising!
Besides, this didn't seem like something Johnny would do!
Frederick had a plan in mind. He looked at Kingsley and said calmly, "I don't think anyone else has noticed this yet! Keep it under wraps for now!"
"Dad!" Kingsley protested. "Johnny really would do anything!"
"Are you saying he's lost it?" Frederick chuckled. "He knows exactly what he's doing! Let him be."
The Hughes Family was destined to be the sacrifice.
Kingsley looked at his dad, trying to figure out what he was thinking. Frederick suddenly sighed. "Maybe Johnny turned out this way because I was too hard on him when he was young."
He was different from Gavin. Gavin had a rough childhood but came from a well-off family, with his parents still around. But Johnny was practically an orphan.
Kingsley left, and Frederick sat alone in the study for half the day.
He called Andrew.
After explaining the situation, Andrew's reaction was the same—laughing and scolding, saying to let them be.
"Among the younger generation, there has to be a winner! So that in the future, there will be a central figure to lead and support the entire family."
Andrew sighed. "So they won't be at each other's throats now and fall apart when a real challenge comes!"
Frederick smiled lightly. "Are you worried Gavin can't keep the family business going?"
Andrew shrugged. "If he can't, he can come back and live a hard life!"
Frederick felt a bit relieved. But after hanging up, he felt heavy-hearted, always thinking about Johnny.
At night, he tossed and turned in bed, and Charlotte knew what was on his mind.
She leaned against him and softly said, "If you really miss him, go see him. It's not like you don't know the way!"
"Who misses him?" Frederick turned over, pretending to be annoyed. "He's planning to deal with us!"
Charlotte hugged him from behind.
She gently stroked his lips, smiling lightly. "I think you're quite happy about it!"
Frederick turned around, held Charlotte in his arms, and whispered against her face, "Am I getting old? Is that why I'm getting soft-hearted?"
Charlotte pressed against his heart.
After a moment, she softly said, "Frederick, you don't need to blame yourself! You just see Johnny as your own child!"
Frederick sighed. "But he never comes home!"
He was really afraid, knowing Lola's temperament. If Lola truly didn't forgive, would Johnny never come back?
Before early summer, Gavin and Molly held their wedding.
Originally, they wanted to delay it until autumn. But Molly was pregnant! A small life was quietly growing inside her. That morning, Molly hugged Gavin's neck and softly told him, "You're going to be a dad!"
Gavin was stunned for a long time.
Molly carefully watched his expression. "You're not happy?"
Gavin stared at her small face. "Really pregnant?"
Molly blushed and nodded.
Then, Gavin lifted her to sit at the head of the bed, and he himself carefully lay his head on her belly to listen. Molly stroked his head. "The baby is still small; you can't hear anything!"
"I just want to listen!" Gavin listened for a while, then gently stroked her belly, feeling it was incredible and magical.
Molly's eyes were also incredibly tender.
After a moment, Gavin kissed her lightly.
After a long kiss, he held her fingertips. "Molly, let's get married!"
Their wedding was simple yet grand.
They only invited family and close friends, less than 50 people. The small chapel was decorated warmly.
The Hawkins Family all attended.
Lola never expected that Gavin would invite Johnny. He looked handsome in his tailcoat. But he had lost a lot of weight.
Johnny slowly walked over and sat next to Lola.
He couldn't take his eyes off her beige dress, hugging her slender curves, making her look both beautiful and dignified. He had never seen her dressed like this before.
On the stage, Gavin and Molly exchanged wedding rings.
Johnny's voice was low. "If it weren't for that night, maybe we would have made it to marriage too."
Lola didn't say anything.
She had noticed Johnny's recent actions. The dates her parents arranged for her started to cancel, and no one dared to go on a date with her. She knew it was Johnny's doing.
Johnny was powerful now, running a large business. But Lola had everything from the moment she was born.
With Johnny acting like that, she really didn't care much for him.
She treated him indifferently and didn't want to bring up those matters; it was pointless!
As the wedding ended and she was about to leave, Molly's bouquet fell into Lola's arms.
All eyes were on her.
The atmosphere was quite subtle, especially with Johnny sitting next to her. Lola forced a smile. "Looks like I need to try harder at dating!"
Johnny's grip tightened.
Lola held the bouquet, kissed Molly. "Congratulations on your wedding!"
And then she left.
The family and friends all looked at Johnny.
Johnny's face was a bit pale. He also stood up, nodded slightly, and left.
Gavin spent his wedding night.
Lola had a couple of drinks at a bar, then took a cab home. She no longer lived in that apartment.
She now lived in the apartment that Frederick had back in the day.
Lola felt quite lonely and had even adopted a cat.
When she got to her apartment door, she saw Johnny squatting in front of it, wearing only a white pleated shirt, having taken off his suit.
"What are you doing here?" Lola swiped her key and entered the apartment.
Johnny followed her in.
He had been here before, as a child, with Frederick.
There was a new addition to the apartment, a small gray cat that looked quite cute.
Lola fed the cat, and spoke softly, "Johnny, with your current status, you can have any beautiful girl you want! If you like being taken care of and having fun, just spend money! There's no need to pester me."
Johnny was almost pressed against her back.
He could hug her with just one reach, but he didn't dare.
He almost pleaded. "Lola, I have everything now! Can we start over? I'll treat you well, you can have anything you want!"
Lola paused, and softly asked him, "Can you give me back the Johnny from before?"
Johnny's face turned pale; he couldn't.
Lola smiled, gently stroking the cat's fur, her voice even softer. "Johnny, I'm actually a perfectionist! It has little to do with whether you're successful or how much wealth you have! Just go, don't come back. I don't want to move again."
Johnny finally hugged her gently. Pressing against her back, he whispered, "I'll give you everything, okay?"
"I don't want it!" Lola gently pushed him away. "Stop it, okay?"
She had always been gentle.
She didn't argue with him, nor did she use harsh words, showing that she had truly decided to let go.
Johnny stood up. His voice was filled with indignation. "At that time, I just felt sorry for her. She lost a leg, and I thought you shouldn't have spoken to her that way. I don't love her! Lola, you must think I'm heartless, but aren't you the same?"
Lola smiled faintly. "Yes! I only lost love, but she lost a leg! But Johnny, what does that have to do with me? Did I cause her to lose her leg? And between us, it was just a few times of sleeping together and developing some feelings. People get married and divorced! Isn't breaking up normal?"
She looked at him, still smiling. "Didn't you give up too? Alright, it's pointless to talk about this! Go back!"
After saying that, she waved her hand.
Johnny looked at her.
Lola's attention seemed to be on the cat, not on him.
After a long time, Johnny left.
The apartment door had opened and closed.
Lola was a bit dazed.
Gavin and Molly spent their wedding night in the presidential suite of Syeattel's only six-star hotel. Even though Molly was pregnant, he found ways to make them both happy, with one romantic kiss after another, making the night feel endless.
Molly in his arms was incredibly tender. Gavin felt all the tenderness on their wedding night.
In the middle of the night, Gavin received a call from a company executive. "Gavin, there's some bad news!"
Gavin put on a black bathrobe. "Say!"
He had just experienced the greatest joy of his life, getting married, becoming a father, and about to bankrupt the Hughes Family!
Gavin was at the peak of his life, full of confidence.
The executive was silent for a moment, then said, "The Hughes Family has received $80 billion in financing."
Gavin squinted slightly.
$80 billion was enough to revive the Hughes Family.
He lowered his voice. "Have you found the source of the funds?"
The executive didn't dare to say!
Gavin had guessed it. In Syeattel, besides the Hawkins Family, there was only one other person with that kind of power. It was Johnny!
He had to meet Johnny before the $80 billion transferred into the Hughes Family's account.
Gavin couldn't wait until morning.
As he put on his shirt, he dialed Johnny's number. "Can we meet?"
Johnny's voice was calm.
Obviously, he had been waiting for this. "Tonight is your wedding night. Why do you want to meet me?"
Gavin's voice was cold. "Johnny, there's no point in pretending now! Tell me, what do you want by using the Hughes Family to threaten me?"
"I think you already know!"
Gavin sneered. "Do you think Lola will compromise with you for my sake? Johnny, Lola would probably rather see me beg than sell herself out for me."
Johnny's voice remained calm. "That means you don't know her well enough!"
He paused, "I'm at home, come over."
Gavin said, "I'll be there to visit you right away!"
Johnny chuckled lightly and hung up the phone.
Gavin threw his phone aside and saw Molly waking up. She curled up in the blanket, looking worried. "Gavin, what's wrong?"
Gavin kissed her to reassure her. "Nothing, just some company matters I need to handle! I'll bring you breakfast in the morning!"
Molly had heard Johnny's voice. She was worried. "Are you going to see Johnny?"
Gavin hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "He's gone mad! Trying to force Lola to team up with the Hughes Family."
Molly was stunned. She softly asked, "Isn't he afraid of Lola getting angry, or Frederick hitting him again?"
Gavin tapped her on the head. "He's quite something now! Many people look up to him! If he's daring to do this, he must be going all in!"
But he didn't expect that in Johnny and Lola's relationship, the one who got hurt was him, Gavin!
