Chapter 123: Frederick, Are You Serious
Charlotte rested her head on the white pillow, looking softer and more tender than usual. "I don't want to go to the hospital," she said, feeling embarrassed about it.
Frederick gently touched her cheek, grabbed his phone, and made a call. "Cherie, get a doctor to Room 3601 at the Grand Riviera Hotel. It's for Charlotte; she's sick."
Cherie was momentarily stunned. Why a hotel and not home? Mr. Hawkins sure knew how to keep things interesting. But being a pro, Cherie quickly found a reliable doctor and brought him over.
When they arrived, Frederick opened the door and frowned. "Why is it a male doctor?" he asked, puzzled. He then told Cherie to find a female doctor who was experienced and dependable, knowing Charlotte cared about her image.
Cherie swiftly found another renowned doctor. She prescribed oral meds, and by noon, Charlotte's fever had gone down, though she was still sleepy.
Cherie stayed to tidy up the suite, feeling a bit astonished. Frederick was in the bedroom, handling business on his phone, then checking on Charlotte and touching her hand. Her delicate fingers showed she wasn't used to housework, but she had done it all without complaints since moving in with him.
Frederick reminisced about their early days together, which were quite beautiful. Charlotte used to blush whenever he looked at her. She liked him; he always knew that. But now, she rarely blushed in front of him. It was Oliver who had made her blush last night.
At 4 PM, Frederick took Charlotte back to the apartment. She still felt unwell and a bit nauseous. Cherie called the doctor again, who said it was due to the contraceptive pill.
After sending everyone away, Frederick returned to find Charlotte pale and leaning against the pillow. He thought about last night and felt a bit regretful. He gently touched her cheek. "I won't let you take that pill again," he said.
Charlotte turned her face away, embarrassed. Frederick lowered his head and kissed her gently until her cheeks turned faintly red. She looked up, eyes glistening, and murmured, "Frederick, you should have had enough fun by now."
There was an unspoken understanding between them. But with his heart's true desire back and his enjoyment of the intensity with Katherine, she felt he should let her go for everyone's sake.
Frederick didn't respond, just stared at her. He hadn't had enough. He only wanted to be with her. The silence was awkward.
Charlotte choked up and said, "I won't go to the hotel with you anymore."
Frederick's Adam's apple bobbed as he thought about last night's craziness. Just then, his phone rang. It was a friend.
He put it on speaker. "Bradley, what's up?"
Bradley Lawson laughed mischievously. "Frederick, come out tonight? Last night was a bust, but Katherine's set up another get-together. Oliver will make it up to you! By the way, you didn't upset Charlotte, did you? Women can be touchy; it just shows she cares. Give her some space, but don't overdo it."
Frederick glanced at Charlotte, who was fuming. She grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. "Get lost! Frederick, do whatever you want; it has nothing to do with me."
Frederick smiled. "That was Bradley, not me."
Bradley, on the other end, was shocked. "Is Charlotte there? Haha, just kidding!"
He then lowered his voice. "Frederick, are you coming or not? Katherine rarely comes back; don't spoil the fun."
Bradley assumed Frederick would come, thinking Charlotte wouldn't dare stop him. In their circle, women being kept were always obedient.
Frederick calmly said, "I'm not going. It's boring."
Bradley was surprised. "Frederick, are you sure?"
Frederick replied, "Charlotte's not feeling well; I'm staying home to take care of her."
Bradley was stunned. Usually, women served them, not the other way around. "Frederick, are you serious?"
Frederick smiled at Charlotte and hung up. "Ms. Russell, is that okay?"
Charlotte ignored him. Frederick's concessions were just tactics. If he really liked her, he'd offer a stable relationship, not just physical contact. But his thoughtfulness did ease things a bit.
Over the weekend, Frederick either took care of her or worked in the study, even feeding the little white dog. He didn't touch her but liked to kiss her until she was dizzy, then chuckled.
Those two days almost felt like old times, but Charlotte knew better. His actions were just because of his interest. Whether she was moved or in pain, Frederick didn't care.
After two days, Charlotte felt better and wanted a cup of coffee. Halfway through brewing, the doorbell rang. Thinking it was Chloe, she opened the door and was stunned to see Katherine.
Katherine smiled, unlike her malicious attitude that night. Charlotte didn't stop her from meeting Frederick. She stepped aside to let Katherine in, then walked to the study door. "Miss Mitchell is here. Do you want to see her?"
