Chapter 146 Did You Ever Think of Me on Those Nights
Charlotte glanced over.
Lily was itching to leave.
She hadn't expected Frederick to show up, especially since he didn't think much of Robert.
Feeling guilty, Lily had arranged for Charlotte to stay far away from Frederick.
But she couldn't control Frederick.
As soon as Charlotte took off her coat and sat down, Frederick walked over, lifting his chin slightly.
People around Charlotte made way.
Frederick sat next to her, bold as ever.
Everyone knew about their past, so the room went silent.
Frederick seemed relaxed.
He leaned back and casually asked, "How have you been?"
Charlotte kept her eyes on the screen, trying to sound casual. She didn't want to seem like she hadn't moved on.
"Not bad!"
Frederick smiled faintly. "That's good! Then our breakup was for the best."
Charlotte didn't respond.
Seeing Frederick again stirred up old feelings.
She didn't want to say much; his sharp gaze might catch on.
Later, everyone started having fun.
Frederick joined in, while Charlotte played on her phone. She vaguely heard they were playing Truth or Dare, and a girl boldly confessed to Frederick.
Of course, he rejected her.
Charlotte felt bored, especially sitting next to Frederick, which made her even more uncomfortable.
Just as she was about to go to the restroom, Robert's phone rang.
It was Tina calling.
She kept calling until Robert answered.
In such a setting, Lily couldn't lose her temper.
Charlotte saw that Lily still wanted to continue with Robert, sighed softly, and asked her to go to the restroom together.
They washed their hands side by side.
After some thought, Charlotte softly asked, "Have they been in contact all this time?"
Lily's eyes were red. She pulled out a slim cigarette, her hands trembling as she lit it.
She took a deep drag and looked at Charlotte. "Robert's awful. He bought an apartment for Tina. I checked the bills; he spends over $100,000 a month on her."
Charlotte didn't know what to say.
Lily smiled indifferently. "Robert and I have an understanding. I don't care about him, and we get along better that way. He's even more generous to me. Charlotte, don't follow my example; you deserve a man who loves you."
Charlotte gently patted her shoulder. "If you need anything, come to me."
"Of course." Lily smiled, lightly pressing her fist against Charlotte's shoulder.
At that moment, Robert came over, holding his phone, looking uneasy.
Lily smiled coldly. "Robert, on our wedding anniversary, you still want to be with her? Is she that good? You probably haven't seen her spreading her legs for Ethan."
Robert stared at Lily.
Lily was beautiful but too delicate.
They had been married for two years, and she still refused to have children, afraid of ruining her figure.
Tina was different; she was willing to have his children.
Tina said she was pregnant. It must be a son.
No matter what, he had to be with her now.
Robert didn't dare tell the truth and made up an excuse. "There's something at the company; I'll be back soon."
Of course, Lily didn't believe him.
But she couldn't stop him; he wouldn't even stay with her on their wedding anniversary. Lily was utterly desperate.
She stared at her husband.
Finally, she asked, "Robert, do you really have to go?"
Feeling guilty, Robert nodded.
Lily suddenly smiled and brushed her hair. "Fine! Go ahead!"
Robert rushed into the elevator, more urgent than ever.
After he left, Lily's lips trembled, and her whole body started shaking.
"Lily, how did he become like this?" Charlotte softly asked, "Do you want a divorce?"
Lily, with red eyes, shook her head.
She took out her phone and dialed a number.
"Bradley, I'm at the club! I've had too much to drink; can you take me home? Yeah, Robert went to be with someone else, and I'm alone."
Charlotte was stunned. She grabbed Lily. "What are you doing?"
Lily gently removed Charlotte's hand, her pale face showing determination. "Charlotte, I know exactly what I'm doing! Bradley liked me; he chased me for a long time in college."
Charlotte said, "But you two can't be together."
Lily smiled. "I see! But I can find happiness with him."
Charlotte didn't know what to say.
Bradley arrived quickly, and Lily nestled in his arms, as radiant as a flower.
But Charlotte knew Lily was crying inside.
She thought, 'Let it be; maybe it couldn't get any worse.'
Lily made a high-profile move, returning to the room with Charlotte, grabbing her coat, and leaving with Bradley, making her intentions clear.
The room fell silent for a moment.
Everyone could see that Robert and Lily's marriage was over.
Charlotte didn't want to stay any longer either. She turned to get her things and leave.
Her hand was suddenly grabbed.
Frederick's hoarse voice sounded. "Stay for a while."
Charlotte was still upset about Lily and choked up, "I want to go home."
Frederick held a cigarette in one hand.
With the other hand, he forcefully made Charlotte sit next to him.
Someone spoke up, "Frederick got Truth; he can ask anyone three questions."
Charlotte's heart skipped a beat.
Frederick stared at her. "Ms. Russell, I want to ask you."
Charlotte refused, "I'm not playing the game."
Frederick took a deep drag on his cigarette, his cheeks hollowing, looking incredibly sexy.
"I can ask anyone in the room."
Charlotte was a bit angry but didn't want to make a scene.
She lightly bit her lip, conceding.
Frederick's deep eyes stared at her, his voice slow and hoarse. "First question, do you have a boyfriend?"
Charlotte denied, "No!"
"Second question, do you have someone you like?"
Charlotte refused to answer.
Someone said, "Charlotte, are you afraid to play?"
Charlotte bit her lip in anger.
She looked at Frederick.
Unexpectedly, he smiled, not as brooding as usual.
Reluctantly, Charlotte said, "Yes."
The room fell silent.
Frederick looked at Charlotte's gentle profile, his voice even softer. "Third question. During the nights we've been apart, have you ever thought of me?"
Charlotte couldn't hold back, "Frederick, don't go too far."
Her angry expression was vivid.
Frederick laughed.
He leaned back against the sofa, laughing softly, "It's good to see you angry; it's better than looking like you're about to cry."
Charlotte's heart trembled.
Frederick still gently held her hand and whispered, "Don't go, wait a bit longer."
Charlotte was a bit puzzled.
Frederick let go of her, picked up his glass, and said casually, "Robert will come back eventually."
