Chapter 161 This Night, Incredibly Gentle

After Charlotte finished talking, she kept crying.

She liked him, maybe still did.

Even though he had flaws, a bad temper, and was mean, Charlotte knew deep down she liked him.

But no matter how much she liked him, she had to protect her heart.

She didn't want to be miserable.

Frederick gently wiped her tears, but the more tender he was, the harder she cried until she lost control.

He pulled her into his arms and lit a cigarette.

Frederick leaned back on the couch, smoking, looking quite attractive.

Any woman would want him.

Charlotte didn't speak; she just leaned against his chest, silently crying.

Her tears soaked his shirt, but Frederick let her be.

He smoked most of his cigarette before softly asking, "Shall we try again? We'll take it slow. If you don't want to, we won't. I'll just make you comfortable."

Charlotte stayed silent.

Frederick knew how she saw him.

He was busy. Before Charlotte, he hadn't had many women around, so he hadn't been eager in bed.

But if a woman he liked was home every day and he felt no desire, then he wasn't truly a man.

He guessed Charlotte's thoughts. He had seen her dating Nicholas, going to art exhibitions, watching fireworks. Frederick didn't think much of it.

Those were what kids do when going out for a date.

But he was grateful Charlotte only dated Nicholas for ten days.

If it had been Oliver, who knew what would have happened.

He understood her thoughts and knew how to coax her, "Shall we go to a concert tomorrow?"

Charlotte didn't want to go out with him.

Frederick knew how to persuade her. He lit another cigarette, took a deep drag, and gently exhaled the smoke toward her. "If you don't want to go on a date, shall we go to a hotel?"

Charlotte got angry.

She got up to leave, but Frederick gently held her back and said, "I'll take you home. Wait for my call tomorrow, I'll have Cherie book the tickets."

This time, Charlotte didn't say anything more.

She was somewhat soft-hearted.

Frederick was tired; he hadn't succeeded yet, but pursuing a woman took time and effort.

He drove her back to her apartment.

When he pursued a woman, he was very considerate.

The next day, when Charlotte woke up, her white BMW was already parked downstairs. Frederick's driver didn't wake her up; he just stood by the car, making Charlotte feel quite embarrassed.

She took the car keys and thanked him.

The driver explained, though she hadn't asked, "Mr. Hawkins instructed me not to wake you."

Charlotte nodded and thanked him again.

She got into the car and received a call from Maria.

Maria said Frederick had visited early in the morning and brought many expensive supplements.

Maria couldn't figure out their current relationship, so she asked Charlotte's opinion.

Charlotte gently stroked the steering wheel and said softly, "You can accept them."

Maria was pleased; she really liked Frederick and hoped he and Charlotte would end up together.

She hung up the phone.

Charlotte looked at her phone, feeling conflicted.

Frederick was like candy-coated poison to her. She knew it was toxic inside, but the exterior was too sweet to resist.

In the end, she sent a message: [Thank you, Mr. Hawkins]

Over the next week, Frederick was extremely gentlemanly.

He accompanied Charlotte around the city, visiting elegant art venues and famous restaurants.

He even took her to the Mexican restaurant where she had dined with Nicholas.

Coincidentally, they ran into Nicholas and his fiancée, Margaret.

It was awkward.

Charlotte glared at Frederick and whispered, "Did you do this on purpose?"

Frederick smiled. "Yep. I wanted you to see Nicholas's true colors. Look, they’re a perfect match."

Nicholas saw them too.

Even with his beautiful fiancée Margaret by his side, he was distracted. It took him a while to respond to her.

Charlotte felt helpless; Frederick could be really petty.

On the way back, she watched him fasten his seatbelt and softly asked, "Why do you care so much about Nicholas?"

Frederick glanced at her.

After a long silence, he said, "Because I know someone like Nicholas is your ideal match for marriage. If it weren't for his overbearing mother, you two would probably be married."

Charlotte didn't deny it.

Frederick didn't say more; the topic was unpleasant.

He dropped Charlotte off, and as she was getting out, he held her back. "Come over to my place the day after tomorrow. I'll have Jessica prepare a lot of dishes."

Charlotte hesitated. "The music studio has a dinner party that night."

Frederick was considerate. "Drink a little less, and I'll pick you up when it's over."

With him being so accommodating, Charlotte couldn't refuse.

She softly agreed.

Frederick then pressed her against the seat and kissed her deeply before saying in a hoarse voice, "Dress nicely the day after tomorrow. It's a special occasion for us."

Charlotte looked at him in surprise.

Outside the car window, light snow began to fall.

It was gentle and soft, softening the night and bringing their hearts closer.

Frederick had a knack for handling their relationship just right.

He walked her upstairs but didn't ask to stay the night. As he went downstairs, Charlotte couldn't help but walk to the window.

On the snowy winter night, her breath turned into white mist.

Frederick stood under the dim streetlight, leaning against his golden Bentley, smoking, exuding a strong masculine charm.

Charlotte held a cup of hot cocoa, quietly watching him.

She thought, 'This really is a very gentle night.'

Frederick smoked two cigarettes, then stubbed them out on the ground. He looked up at Charlotte with deep eyes.

She didn't have time to hide.

She had to meet his gaze.

Frederick smiled lightly, a bit mischievously, exuding even more masculinity.

He waved at Charlotte and got into the car.

The golden Bentley didn't drive away immediately. After a while, Charlotte received a message from Frederick.

[Are you thinking about me?]

Just a few simple words that kept Charlotte up all night.

If it weren't for that dark night, she might have thrown herself into his arms immediately.

She had experienced sweet love before, and though she felt afraid, her desires as a woman remained strong. After being teased by Frederick for so many days, she found herself yearning for intimacy as well.

She had slept with him many times and guessed that he wouldn't let her go the day after tomorrow.

Charlotte didn't know if she was secretly looking forward to it, but she did dress up seriously that day.

A champagne-colored silk dress wrapped her body enticingly. Over it, she wore a thin white down jacket. Once she took it off, her graceful curves would be on full display.

Charlotte blushed a bit while putting on makeup, feeling a bit ashamed of herself.

She knew she had been seduced by Frederick.
